Critique/Rebuttal of May 2018 Watchtower study article - "Know Your Enemy"
by doubtfull1799 inimportant note: i am not a theist and this is all meaningless of course from an atheist perspective, but this critique is written from a theistic perspective for those who are interested in picking apart jw theology or are still religious.
if this is not you, please just ignore!.
comments, additions, corrections to my crazy ramblings all welcome.

"some who have viewed pornography began by viewing provocative images of people in swimwear in advertisements"?????
Hahahaha. That made me laugh out loud. What a crock of shite.
Too bad for those of us who live near the beach. Destined to become porn addicts on account of all the scantily clad beach goers.
Seriously who writes this garbage??

Even as a child I used to wonder how offering magazines with articles about polar bears and insects could be regarded as life saving work. There is a no warning about the imminent demise of the world. All everyone knows about JWs is that they knock on your door at inconvenient times and refuse life saving blood transfusions.

Fear of the worldly people.
by StephaneLaliberte inyesterday, i had a conversation with my neighbor during which i explained the greatest reason why i wanted to raise my kids out of the jws: the fear (which translate to hate) jws have for everyone showing no interest in becoming part of their group.
in order for him to quickly relate to what i meant i asked him to imagine, for a moment, he was the biggest racist he has ever known, forced to live in a black neighborhood.
how would you feel?

This is something that I have been thinking about a lot.
My mother in law warned me "Satan is seeking to devour" because I had a non JW friend at my house for lunch.
The thing with non JWs is that they give actual unconditional friendship.

Screwed up sexually
by purrpurr ini was thinking about how the borg screws up and sexually neuters their flock by telling them when single to "deaden their body" and then boom as soon as there's a ring on the finger to not be denying eachother.. do any of you know of jws who have been screwed up by these teachings?
i know 2, 1 elder came back from honeymoon having a nervous breakdown unable to cope with the cd that sex produced in his head.
and the other called up her parents while on honeymoon, crying and begging for themto come and get her, since she was so shocked that sex hurt.

Yet their minds are constantly in the gutter and they assume that unless of are a JW you are a sex obsessed person with no morals.
My son has a girlfriend. They are teenagers. When he tells my mother he is going to her house with friends she gives him the "if you play with fire you will get burnt" speech.
He didn't understand what she meant so I just said "don't worry your grandma has a one track mind". Stopped her in her tracks. Lol

Love it!
We had a brother in our congregation growing up who would go white as a sheet and pass out every time he had to give a bible reading. The school overseer would come prepared with smelling salts to revive him. Eventually they allowed him to sit down on the platform to do his reading.

Did your ability to work get affected by waking up to TTATT?
by stuckinarut2 injust curious.. when you started to wake up to the truth about the truth, did the shock and the whole experience distract you from your usual activities such as performing at your place of work?.
did you become so consumed by researching, and the subsequent factual discoveries, that it affected your ability to carry out daily tasks?.

Kids in my kingdom hall
by Akid48 ini think my last post i said i went to a new congregation,i'm going to just talk about some of the shit i have seen in my congregation.. there was a kid trying to talk to a adult next to him i think it was his dad,the kid just started taping him because he wanted to tell him something and the dad gets mad then boom the kid gets elbowed.i look around to see if anyone saw him do that to his kid and nope or they didn't want to say anything about it and just like wtf.. in my old congregation, the younger kids would do random stuff in the middle of the meeting to not get board.
when the mom or dad got mad i would see then get dragged to the back of the kingdom hall and hear them start crying.when i was still mentally in i just didnt think about it at all when it would happen but when i woke up im just like thats fucked up..

My mother's go to behavior controller was the pinch and twist. This could be administered without anyone noticing and they would be left wondering why we were crying.
In my late teens we had a local need part asking parents not to take their children out to smack them as the neighbors had complained about the crying children. Such a loving group of people. What a great witness. Pft.

Concerned Parent
by ConcernedParent ini'm writing for some advice from former jws.
my family is christian, and my 15yo daughter is "dating" a jw boy.
(the quotes are because they aren't old enough to actually go out on dates... they consider themselves bf/gf and have hung out and gone places with each other, but always with parents, family, etc.

Firstly - is he a baptised JW or just a JW by association/family?
My son has a girlfriend at school at 16. Many would say he is a JW because we as his parents have been JWs all our lives. We are now fading, so quietly leaving. Therefore there are ones who would not know our current position.
When I was 16 nearly every one of the teenagers in my congregation had boyfriend/girlfriends at school. Some went on to immerse themselves in the JW way of life and some did not.
If you want to know where he stands just ask him. If he is a believer I would recommend research into the cult and do said research together with your daughter.
If he is just biding his time until he is his own man he will need a family to accept him when his own will not.
