What Was The BEST Thing About Being A Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus inthis thread could be a saver!.

I liked feeling as though I was part of a Brotherhood™ that would live to see something amazing - that JWs were specially chosen and were doing Jehovah's work on earth. It sucked the big one when I realized it was all based on bull$h!t.
Goodie night was great - and I daresay that I still make awesome treats, just not as frequently as then. But we could do exJW goodie nights, without having the Book Study™ first!! That would be fantastic!!
Actually, to be completely honest, I learned enough about public speaking from the Theocratic School™ and going Door-to-Door™ to give really effective presentations at school and at work. That's probably the best thing I took away from being a JW - it's a skill that's served me well.

by Marvin Shilmer inchild health watchtower deception!.

Just recall WT's position on truth-telling:
While malicious lying is definitely condemned in the Bible, this does not mean that a person is under obligation to divulge truthful information to people who are not entitled to it. - Insight on the Scriptures, Volume II, pp. 244, 245 (heading: LIE).
The average JW does not realize that the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses - the very individuals they are entrusting their lives, and the lives of their children to - do not respect them enough to consider them 'entitled to truthful information'.
That quotation was one of the most important discoveries I made about the religion that I almost died in childbirth for. The sense of betrayal I felt over that realization was enormous.

I think you make a lot of people angry here, with your creepy adolescent attitude toward women.
I also think you find it amusing because you make no efforts to remedy your attitude.

Do you ever suffer from this in your sleep or is it just me?
by highdose inlast night at 2am i was awoken by the sound of cuboards in the room next to mine being opened and iteams falling out of them.
it terrifiled me, i lay awake listening further for hours in case the burgalars tried anything else.... when the morning came i went into that room, to find it all as it should be... nothing disturbed at all... no break in at all.. this has happened several times to me over the past few years.
no its not the neighbours i live in a deatched house.

It sounds like you might have a bit of PTSD going on, related to your previous break in.
Perhaps you could download some relaxation music or other audio recordings to listen to before you go to sleep, to help clear your mind of those anxieties.
FWIW, I have experienced dreams in which I hear the phone ringing or my alarm going off, which wakes me up. It so happens that my working shiftwork makes me anxious about sleeping through my alarm - which becomes the focus of my thoughts before going to sleep, and then I'm hearing alarms in my dreams all frikkin' night long. I started taking my iPod to bed, and listening to audio books as I slept. It drowns out external sounds (except my real alarm clock) and gives my mind a different focus as I drift off to sleep. It works quite nicely for me, to be honest.

Necessary business with Disfellowshipped ones
by Quarterback ini was reading our study article for next week's wt study there is a subheading in there about treatment of disfellowshipped ones.
in one paragraph they slam the term, "necessary business" when dealing with a family member who is df'd.. this is so confusing.
in one hand they have coined that phrase "necessary business" with relatives that have df relatives.
-
Scully
Rule of thumb when applying the term Necessary Family Business™:
If you need money, are ill or require other manner of material support, and would otherwise have to rely on JW Friends™ or the Congregation™ for such assistance, then contact with DF'd relatives as Necessary Family Business™ is permissible.
If your DFd relative(s) need money, are ill or require other manner of material support, then fuck 'em.

I really want to go JW but..
by fortbethel ini've studied with like 30 diff denominations.
i really feel jw is best for me.
i think it's the 144,000 part & the once a year get together when they pass around the sacrament that bothers me most.
-

If you can't agree with the fundamental teachings - the 144,000 and the Memorial™ are fundamental teachings - then I would suggest examining what it is that you agree with, and why.
If you are male, does the Headship Principle™ appeal to you? The one that puts females in a lower station, and requires submission to the husband or father? If you are female, does that same Headship Principle™ appeal to you for its requiring less of you, allowing you to cop out and let someone else make all the tough decisions for you?
Does the extremely structured lifestyle appeal to you, which leaves little room for socializing with family and friends who are not JW?
Do the rules appeal to you, that absolve you of responsibility for making your own decisions and at the same time surrender your decision-making to a body of individuals that you will never meet, and who may or may not have your (or your family's) best interests at heart?
Do you agree with the idea that in a medical emergency, you will be required to refuse blood transfusions for yourself, and on behalf of your spouse and/or children?
If there are teachings that you disagree with, can you, in good conscience, go Door-to-Door™ and attempt to recruit other people into the JW belief system?
Can you live with the possibility of having to shun individuals who leave the belief system - not for doing anything wrong - but because they disagree with certain doctrines and practices?
Can you, in good conscience, invite people to join the JW belief system, knowing that it shelters pedophiles and domestic abusers from justice, and attempts to silence victims of these individuals?
Ask yourself those questions before you commit. If you can still join the JW belief system after seriously considering those questions, then you deserve each other.

Are you estranged from a parent or child?
by wannabefree inanerson cooper is looking for experiences.
maybe if enough ex-jw's sign up, producers will see a potential to look into it ...... sign up sign up.

I wouldn't be surprised if exJWs who signed up to be on this episode would find out that the show tried to contact the estranged relatives in an attempt to mediate a reconciliation, only to have the JW relatives refuse to participate.
That, in itself, would speak volumes.
