Are atheists afraid of archaeology?
by Xanthippe inlarsinger thinks we are.
i have to answer this because it makes my blood boil.
this is one of the key things that trapped me in a religion for the first 30 years of my life.. we were told the archaeologists have found ur of the chaldeans, babylon, nineveh and evidence for the existence of the hittites.therefore the other things in the bible must be true.. archaeologsts have also found troy in modern day turkey.

Has anyone seen this? The old guys in NY give their thoughts on IN Vitro fertilization
by wha happened? inso giving your fertilized egg to a surrogate is pornia.

By the way, the WTS has always had a hate on for Artificial Insemination. As early as March (?) 1993, they expanded their hate of reproductive technology to IVF and the use of donor eggs and surrogacy, even though the practice of surrogacy was not only practiced, but permitted in Bible times (Abraham & Hagar, for example), and you could make the argument that Mary was merely a human surrogate for Jehovah in order for Jesus to be born. Never mind the fact that Mary was already betrothed to Joseph when she became pregnant, which was considered adultery at the time and was punishable by stoning.
How convenient for Jehovah that he was a spirit and unable to be tried in a court based on his own laws.

The new life is not engendered through an act of love between husband and wife, but by a laboratory procedure performed by doctors or technicians.
In this modern age, we accept it as the norm that children are conceived through an act of love between husband and wife, but it has not always been so. How many marriages were arranged in centuries and millennia past with young girls who only had just had their first period to much older men who were friends or allies of the girls' respective fathers, who didn't even know - much less love - the husband that was chosen for them, who were expected to be obedient and allow themselves to be raped and bear children for the benefit of a dowry or a legal transaction between families. All with the blessing of the RCC or whatever religious ideology was in charge at the time (including currently in certain areas and certain belief systems).
For all the flap the church causes over the unloving atmosphere of a laboratory procedure undertaken by two loving consenting adults whose only "crime" is that they dearly want a child, it's a far cry from other kinds of barbaric "procedures" the church blessed throughout history.

I returned to school in my 30s. Many JW acquaintances gave me flak about Armageddon™ being Right Around The Corner™, and urged me to Pioneer™ rather than waste 3 years in college getting an education and into a well respected and well compensated career.
This year will be 15 years since my graduation and 15 years with my employer. I have a career that I love and a comfortable lifestyle because of it. The JWs who gave me grief about returning to school are still complaining about their lot in life just as they did 20 years ago when I first started thinking about going back to school, about how they can't afford this or that, how Pioneering™ is so hard, how they wish they had a nice house of their own instead of paying rent, how they wish they didn't have to clean houses for a living or work minimum wage because that's all they are qualified to do... and on and on and on... I hated the "poor me" attitude so many Pioneers™ have and decided to make something of my life, and yet despite all the complaining they do about their lot in life (i.e., the consequences of their choices - or having reaped what they have sown) they all believe that I did something horrible by going back to school.
And then they get up on the platform and tell thousands of people how Pioneering™ is so rewarding, so fulfilling and how they recommend it to everyone. The only reason they want everyone else to Pioneer™ is so that nobody will be better off than them. Those Experiences™ JWs hear about are all bull$h!t.

What Are Words That You Or Others Have A Hard Time Pronouncing?
by minimus init drives me crazy when people say "altimers disease".. or jewlery.. .
-
Scully
I have a co-worker who says "fustrated" or "flustrated" instead of frustrated.
Like minimus, it bugs me when I hear the word jewelry pronounced "jew-ler-y", or the word nuclear pronounced "nuke-u-ler".
I refuse to watch shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo because I'd become so irritated at the way they bastardize the English language that I'd probably have a stroke. Or want to hurt someone. I have to mute the commercials because they are so annoying.

In the past week alone, I've seen 3 sets of WT & A!, unread, in local trash cans.
The WTS wants to be paid for something that nobody really wants. People still accept the "free" magazines and toss them in the trash. 20 years ago, when we had to pay for the literature up front, and ask for the Contribution™ up front when out In Service™, people were less likely to accept them if it meant parting with 50¢. So the Publishers™ kept a stack in their closets and cupboards, because we paid good money for them and didn't want our money to go to waste.
Now JWs give them away and they end up in the trash, and then they get harassed by the Elders™ and by letters from the WTS telling them that the Magazines™ aren't really "free". Although they have to say that they are available freely, and that all Donations™ are on a completely Voluntary™ basis so they don't get in trouble with government agencies.
I'd love to get my hands on a copy on one of those letters and send it to the IRS and Canada Revenue Agency.

The Other Side of the Indian Rape Story
by fulltimestudent ini'm posting this story, not to defend an indefensible act, but to try to provide some balance.
the fact is that so many indians exist in a poverty so deep that it's difficult for westerners to even understand.
the youngest of the rapists in the now world known rape story, according to this uk, independent newspaper story, grew up in that world that seems hopeless.

Lots of people grow up in $h!tty circumstances and don't participate in gang rape-murders.
Just because someone comes from $h!t background is no excuse to allow the $h!t to define their life. There is always a choice.

Stop Putting Apostate Stickers On My Literature! They "Cost Lots of Money!"
by AuntConnie in"true story" the circuit overseer came to our kingdom hall and read us the riot act (local needs style) "magazines of this quality are not free, they cost money and we are not generating enough donations to defray the cost of the magazines(or running the top of the line printing presses) i get my ass out of bed to place literature in the laundray cleaning, coin opperated shops and some asshole puts his apostate stickers on our magazines.
do you know how hard it is to get up at 6:00 am and how expensive those magazines are costing the organization to print?
please stop defiling our literature, i dont post hateful stickers on your website so please leave my magazines alone.

I buy them and place perfectly located for patrons of the laundry shops or the free health clinic.
I suppose that is the risk you take in Placing™ your Literature™ in public places rather than with private Householders™. If you don't like going Door-to-Door™ and speaking to actual people, you have to assume the risks. Public places often have policies against solicitation, even though your definition does not match theirs. They don't care what happens to your Literature™ after you sneak it in and slide it under a couple of other periodicals. I've often seen colleagues find them in the pile and toss them right in the trash, just like the cashier at the dollar store. I've seen patients at my workplace find them and deface them - far worse than anyone here does with a contrary point of view.
If you don't like what happens to the Magazines™ after you Place™ them, you have a couple of options as I see it: 1) don't give them away - do as the WTS suggests and ask for the Voluntary Donation™ toward the World Wide Education Work™; 2) stop paying for them yourself; 3) don't leave them somewhere that they risk being "defaced"; 4) just stop - use the Bible only for your Ministry - the Word of God is a two-edged sword, is it not? Save the WTS some money and just use the Scriptures, like Jesus did.
BTW: When JWs procure Literature™ for use in their Ministry™, they don't call it "buying". It's a Voluntary Donation™. It is not considered an exchange of currency for goods and services.

Well, maybe the Circuit Overseer™ should start going around to people in the Territory™ who take the Magazines™ and toss them straight in the garbage.
Like the cashier at the local dollar store the other day. I saw the whole sordid affair: the woman in line ahead of me offered the magazines to the cashier, who politely accepted them. The cashier rang the JW lady's order through and waited for her to leave the store. By the time she rang my order through, she'd looked at the front cover and the back cover, and tossed it in the trash. I asked her for it.
She said, "It's the Jehovahs, you know. They come here all the time and give them to me."
"Yes, I know who they are, and I don't doubt they deliver them to you all the time."
She pulled it out of the trash and put it in my shopping bag.
I bet any day now, that Experience™ will sound forth from the Platforms™ at Circuit Assemblies™ and District Conventions™, to a great deal of thunderous applause. Evidently, I will have been Baptized™ at that very event, having my eyes opened to the Glorious Words of Truth™ within the pages of that discarded treasure trove of Spirit Directed™ Bible Based™ Teachings™. It was the angels and Jehovah's Holy Spirit™ directing that seemingly chance encounter.
In reality, I'm saving it for a very sacred purpose. I'm puppy sitting in a couple of weeks and I need something to lay on the floor for the dog to $h!t on.
I feel sorry for the $h!t.
