Yes there have been 4 strong enough that I could feel, including one on Wednesday that I thought was a big truck rumbling down the street - it rattled our windows and walls, and a few others that I didn't notice.

Magwitch:
As my father said .."It is like a time out for a naughty child"
Except that with a naughty child, the time out isn't excessive - it doesn't usually go past the time when the child says "I'm sorry". With DFing, the "time-out", so to speak, is extended beyond the time the individual Repents™ - says they are sorry - for months and years in some cases. It's not about teaching the person a lesson at all, it is taking delight in their suffering and social deprivations. It is recognized as a form of mental and emotional torture. No one in their right mind would ever do that to a child, no matter how naughty they'd been.

Question about News Reporters who go to Natural Disasters
by Broken Promises inafter watching news casts on the queensland floods and cyclone, the christchurch earthquake and japan's earthquake and tsunami..... when these reporters go to these areas, do they bring their own food and water?
surely they don't expect to be looked after at these afflicted places?.
does anyone know?.

They have a team, I'm sure someone is in charge of those necessities, and probably even has a little extra to barter with the locals for better access / protection etc.

I committed un-suicide yesterday
by AlmightyDog inyesterday i opened my wallet and took a long look at the (no) blood card prominently displayed inside.
i have been convinced that this is not the truth for a couple of years now, and am trying to figure out whether to fade or da.
it hit me hard yesterday that with this piece of paper in my wallet, i could possibly end up dying for beliefs i no longer hold.

We went through the motions of obtaining cards, signing them, and having them witnessed. Then as soon as we got home that night after the meeting, we lit a couple of candles, had some wine and ooops, the cards were no more.

It is *only* an earthquake, not the boogeyman!
by Nathan Natas inthe recent earthquake in japan will be a tragedy for many hundreds of individuals and families and for the nation of japan as a whole,.
but, as the saying goes, "the end is not yet.
many people who were raised as jws, as i was, often find that unexpected claps of thunder or the distant roar of jet engines as planes come in for a landing cause them almost reflexively to think "armageddon?"..

The JW Business Method
by MrFreeze ini got to thinking about this today.
what other business would survive for very long if they had the jw business method?.
first, they hire on workers to sell their literature... except they don't pay them.

All religions are based on this business model.
Promise your acolytes the most splendid future they can possibly imagine. All they have to do to get it is (1) be loyal to your group's ideology forever and (2) give you all their money. Oddly enough, the future you promise doesn't materialize because you can never actually have the future - it's elusive, just out of reach.
Side benefits (for the time being) are tax exemption on all the money that's donated to you, all the property that is owned by your conglomerate, having a volunteer labour force, and the freedom to indoctrinate the minds of those whose trust you have gained. Additionally, you are never required to back up the claims you make with actual evidence. Oh, and being pretty much on par with an almighty deity, having the authority to tell people how to run their lives, including when they must make the ultimate sacrifice, down to the minutiae of their private activities, thoughts and feelings (or else!) - that's always a good gig.

RULES & REGULATIONS:
My mom was in the hospital 2 years with internal bleeding and a very low blood count. The Doctor was told by my mom and the HLC members that no blood was to be used if a blood transfusion was needed. I told the Doctor that there was no way my mom would change her mind about accepting a blood transfusion and that she was prepared to die since she was a Jehovah's Witness. I respected her wishes. I didn't agree with her decision but it is her life and that she has a right to her beliefs.
Luckily she stopped bleeding and left the hospital after 2 weeks.
I'm not suggesting that anyone disregard an active JWs wishes to refuse blood transfusions.
My concern is for people attempting to fade, who would accept a blood transfusion. If YOUR PERSONAL hospital records have that little "JW" flag attached to them in the medical records system, the hospital staff have an obligation to treat you as if you were a JW. They do not want a lawsuit on their hands for administering a blood transfusion to a patient who has declared themselves to be a JW. Your best bet, if you do not want HLC members masquerading as part of the hospital's Pastoral Care Team having access to you when you are in the hospital, is to have any references to the JWs removed from your demographic information. That way you won't show up on the hospital's census when the Pastoral Care Team / HLC Elders™ request a list of all JWs admitted to hospital at the time of their visit. They do this. They are authorized by the hospital to have that kind of access to your medical records. (I know this can happen because after specifically REFUSING "pastoral visits" following the birth of my youngest, an HLC member, wearing a hospital issued badge, barged into my private hospital room AFTER visiting hours - and after a meeting at the KH, pulled back the curtain and caught an eyeful of me breastfeeding. Even though I was still a JW at the time, I was very upset at the intrusion.)
Long story short: If you don't want them finding you in hospital, don't leave electronic breadcrumbs for them to follow.

How often are JWs required to show their DPA / No Blood card anyway??
I remember that people were asked to present one at conventions for super "important" publication releases, but other than that, it's a personal, private document.
If someone was concerned about being found out, you could always have a "fake" wallet in your Meeting™ / Service™ book bag for those special occasions. Or keep it in a locked safe in the event the Elders™ wanted to meet with you and make you prove your loyalty by producing the card.
This is also a good time to remind faders that if you have been hospitalized in the past and declared your JW affiliation, that information will be on your medical records until you make a request to have it removed from your records. This will help you fly under the radar of any JW Elders™ and HLC members who have access to JW patients admitted to the hospital when they show up to make their "Pastoral Visits".
