Think about it: your genitals and what you do with them is a very personal and private matter. If a person or religion can compel you to share those most private details of your life with strangers and impose rules on you in how you should conduct yourself with your genitals, they can pretty much succeed in controlling every other thing in your life.

Why is religion in general so obsessed with what people choose to do with their willies and vaginas?
by jambon1 inwhat was it in the evolution of religion that got them so hung up about what people do with their genitalia?.
i mean, the (mis)use of genitalia is up there with murdering another human being in terms of badness.. and in the 21st century, we have a situation where in the jw religion, it's deemed as acceptable for three middle aged/old men to sit a teenage girl down and ask her the details of her use of her genitals.
to any normal person this is intrusive, completely inappropriate and bordering on deviancy.. why they so obsessed?.

Millionaire JW Elder hypocrite?!
by Alostpuppydog inso i know one should remove his own stick from his own eye before ones self judges another, but i noticed something.
it seems that the wealthy witnesses are the elders, the circuit overseers, the governing body... are they really different from any other 'worldly' religions or even organizations?
i mean look at the jewels the friggen pope wears.

A few thoughts:
There are different sources of power - there is power that is given to people based on a claim of authority, as in the case of the GB; there is power that is bestowed upon an individual based on notoriety or popularity (like Trump); there is power that comes from one's own merit - being authoritative, being generous, being fair, etc.; and there is power that arises out of what one has: money, prestige, celebrity.
Money can get you out of a lot of scrapes and money can allow you "privileges" that those on a lesser playing field will not get. It can make the beneficiaries of their generosity look the other way when they do things that other people do not get away with.
Jesus did say that it would be like a camel passing through the eye of a needle for a rich man to enter the Kingdom. Some people think that he wasn't talking about a literal sewing needle, but a restrictive gateway that - in order for a camel to pass through - required the camel to be unburdened and to crouch down and bow its head... a position that from a human perspective indicated humility (getting down on your hands and knees with head facing downward). In that respect, if a wealthy person showed humility when dealing with others who are not so well off (not bragging about his possessions or his ability to school his kids at Harvard or Yale, or showing favouritism toward those whose positions allow them to grant him privileges or leeway, or making a show of their generosity for the attention it provides him) then I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
Understand that the breakdown of the relationship was not entirely your fault. Your father basically disowned you and that was one of the worst decisions he made. Why would you reach out to someone like that?
Yes, it's no longer in your hands to repair the rift. But maybe you could create a legacy that you could one day share with your own family. Put together a photo album, maybe some memories that you have of the good times you recall. Remember the positive things you had with your dad.
Forgive him - he was hurt that you chose the JWs over him, and he gave you a terrible ultimatum.
Forgive yourself - you were hurt by the ultimatum, and likely if he hadn't said those words, your relationship would have survived.
**hugs**

Org Is RACIST! Towards Sisters Of COLOR In Particular--IMO!
by HiddlesWife ini'm sorry--i'm getting this very sensitive vibe that the org (mainly those at the top) don't have any respect--forget about love--for sisters of color.
i'm coming to this conclusion from a couple of videos on jw broadcasting about single sisters.. after watching this video: .

In my experience, the Organization™ has no respect for any human that lacks a penis. They've made statements to the effect that
- women have smaller brains and should therefore leave the thinking to the men
- a woman will hurt the fragile male ego if she should earn a better wage than her husband, and should not aspire to have jobs that could provide a better wage
- women tend to be more emotional with respect to decision-making, and should always ask their husband/father for his input and listen to him (allow him to run her life for her)
- women are nothing more than "a hank of hair and a piece of bone", according to "Judge" Rutherford
- women are at the mercy of their hormonal urges, especially when "the ovum is at large", and will allow anything to *bleep* them, just like a cow in heat does (thank you, Fred Franz)
- women are responsible for their being raped, either by dressing provocatively, not screaming, or wearing a thong (that nobody can see), or if they are married, are responsible for their husband's adultery by not providing the "marital due" whenever he wants it (ps: there is no such thing as marital rape)
I'm sure there are people on this forum who can come up with more condescending bull$h!t the WTS has uttered and published with respect to women.
But you are correct, HiddlesWife, that there exists a hierarchy among women as well. Asian women tend to be valued more than Caucasian women, due to their cultural conditioning of being submissive and subservient. They fit the "quiet and mild spirit" stereotype of men who need a power-fix over a wife. Frankly, I think this attitude exists outside the WTS as well and in my career as a nurse, I've seen it across all kinds of religious and cultural experience. Unfortunately for women of African descent, whose upbringing instills the value of not taking $h!t from nobody are regarded as "not knowing their place" within the Headship Arrangement™. Caucasian women fall somewhere in the middle, much depends on how opinionated they are, who their father and/or husband is within the Organization™, and if she comes from money, all the better for her.
The bottom line is that if you do not have a penis, you are a second-class citizen in JW land. The only way a female earns herself any value/praise is by becoming a doormat for the men in her life.

HLC and privacy rights
by StarTrekAngel insome time ago i used to work at a hospital.
when my family members would receive treatment at this place, often times they would ask me if i could look up information for them regarding their health.
i always had to tell them that privacy laws did not allow me to bypass the hospital's administration.

I've brought up this concern several times. Having worked in a hospital for almost 16 years, I realized that in the demographic information that is collected, often one of the entries is to specify the patient's religion. Once that detail is in the patient's record, individuals who are cleared by the hospital's Pastoral Care Team may have access to the list of patients who are affiliated with their religion.
So, for example, as it happened to me, I specifically signed a document (while I was still a JW) that I was not in need of a visit from the Pastoral Care Team, who happened to be an Elder™ in the local Congregation™. In any case, the Elder™ showed up while I was behind a privacy curtain breastfeeding my newborn daughter, and he waltzed right in to greet me. I didn't know him from a hole in the ground, being from a different Congregation™ and Circuit™, and I sure wasn't impressed that he invaded my privacy the way he did, especially since I'd declined in writing any visits from the Pastoral Care team. I asked him how he learned of my presence in the hospital, and he informed me that he was given a list of all JWs in the hospital and my name and room number were on that list. I asked him if he was aware that I had declined a visit, and he said that he was, but he just wanted to make sure that I was all right, and whether he could bring me the Magazines™ or patch me in on the phone line for the Meeting™. I showed him that I did, indeed, have the current Magazines™, and that I declined the visit because I had Friends™ and family members visiting me, and that I felt that his time would be better spent looking after someone who was truly alone and needed the company, and I was being discharged home in the morning.
I can only imagine how someone would feel completely ambushed if they had accepted a transfusion and then have someone like this show up to their room, uninvited, while the infusion was running.
My advice, as an insider, to anyone who is going to hospital for surgery or in anticipation of unforeseen events (like an accident): please go to the hospital's Admitting Department and specifically request to have that little "JW" in your patient demographics REMOVED. This is how the HLC will find you if you are known in the hospital records to be a JW. If you don't want an ambush type visit, take care of it ASAP.

I noticed there was an article on the CBC website today, with an interview from Lawrence Hughes. The subject of how the HLC is used to intimidate / unduely influence JWs who are in a situation where blood transfusion would very likely save their lives.

"The G.B. is neither inspired nor infallible"
by smiddy inthat admission in the feb.17 ,study edition of the watchtower , " who is leading gods people today ?
" "the governing body is neither inspired, nor infallible, therefore it (they/we) can err in doctrinal matters or in organizational direction .".
have the many jehovahs witnesses past and present who have lost their lives by refusing blood transfusions due to the prohibition on blood tranfusions by jehovahs witnesses really got the sense of this statement ?.

"The Governing Body is neither inspired, nor infallible, therefore it can err in doctrinal matters or in organizational direction ."
Then what is the point of listening to them? What makes their interpretation of doctrinal matters or organizational direction any better than anyone else? Why, then, if we decided to form our own views, would we considered to be Apostate™ and DFd?
Deuteronomy had the truth test for anyone claiming to speak on behalf of god. If their words came true, they were a true prophet. If their words did not come true, they were a false prophet. How does the GB stand up to the truth test?

Hurricane Matthew: Relief help report is too vague
by StephaneLaliberte inwhen jehovah's witnesses report on their relief work, they seem to purposefully remain vague.
all i get out of such an article is this: don't worry, no one you should worry about died.
but there are a lot of damage and we are here to help the survivors.

Scully
I think it was around the time of Hurricane Katrina when Watchtower's ulterior motive was exposed.
They told people donating money to NOT SPECIFY on their cheques that the money was for "Hurricane Katrina relief work", that they would know best what to do with the money. Legally, any money donated with a specific intent *must* be used in the manner specified.
Next, the JWs who were assisted by WT-organized relief work were targeted afterward, and asked to remit any insurance monies to WT, since The Brothers™ had helped them at no cost (but doesn't that imply that a cost is being levied against them - so the work was never truly free of cost to begin with?)
Clearly, the WT's motive in providing disaster relief was to gouge donations from sympathetic donors and then take advantage of the gratitude of disaster victims by asking to be repaid for the "free" "volunteer" help that was provided to them once they received a cheque from their respective insurance companies.

Jesus, the Great Convincer?
by Simon insupposedly the disciples witnessed jesus' super-power awesomeness first-hand.. so they were all 100% on-board to-the-death martyrs ... right?.
erm .... judas betrayed him.
thomas didn't believe he'd come back.
-
Scully
why did he need to be betrayed
Well, someone had to fulfill a prophecy, which brings me to one of my favorite questions: If Judas betrayed Jesus and fulfilled a prophecy by doing so, why is Judas hated so much? It seems to me that he is a *vital* part of the story, and without him perpetrating the betrayal, Jesus wouldn't have died to "save" mankind.
Why isn't he treated like a hero, for ensuring that Jesus fulfilled his sacrificial role?

7 Things Most JW's Dont Know They're Supposed To Believe
by pale.emperor ini decided to spend my sunday morning creating a youtube video highlighting 7 things most jw's dont know they're supposed to believe.
most of these i learned only after my exit of the cult.
here's hoping a few jw's will stumble upon it.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er44oc0p4ny&feature=youtu.be.

Excellent job there, pale.emperor. It might be my old eyes, but I found the transition from proof text to the next slide to be a bit fast, JMO.
The Flock Book™ *might* be a problem, and may legitimize an attempt to remove your video - keep in mind that it is supposed to be a 'confidential' publication for Elders™ only and WT may object to it being available publicly.
We all know that it's been circulating on the internet for decades now, so it's really out of WT's hands, but if they wanted to make trouble for you with YouTube, they might be able to make a case to have it removed.
