Tattoos In the Kingdom?
by Cold Steel inwith tattoos becoming ever more popular in today's culture, i couldn't help but wonder what happens when people with ostentatious tattoos seek baptism?
are they admitted?
many don't have the money to have them removed, yet i can't imagine they'd be allowed to do pioneer work.

What is your understanding of the terms "Ransom" and "Redeem"?
by Doug Mason inwith respect to christ being the "redeemer" and of having "paid the ransom", i would like to know:.
(1) what is your technical understanding of each term?.
(2) what is the watchtower's understanding of each term?.

Scully
Ransom: money that is paid in order to free someone who has been captured or kidnapped
Redeem: to buy or pay off; clear by payment
I'd never thought of the Biblical usage of those words in terms of me being held in captivity against my will, and needing someone to pay for my freedom, but now, that all seems pretty creepy.

RUMOUR - Regarding future memorials
by Listener ini heard this on the youtube channel - bad jw round table discussions and i normally don't give much thought to rumours, i did find this one interesting.one of the guys on the channel said that there are plans that 'the other sheep' will be told not to attend any future memorials.he was asked how credible was this and he said that it is talk going around by those in the know, just like there had been those that knew about the fairly recent new edition of the bible being in production.even if this is probably just a rumour, the idea has a lot of merit.
the benefits for the organization outweigh the negatives and would fit in with their current direction.here are some of the benefits, for the org.
that could come from it- the biggest benefit would come from not having to accommodate so many attendants, which are more than double a normal meeting.

Another "positive" if this is actually true: Watchtower has taken away the only "holiday" JWs were ever permitted to observe/celebrate.

Hulu’s ‘The Path’ portrays family life inside a cult

I've been watching it from the start. The similarities are so intriguing - and kind of echo my thoughts on the JWs, in terms of how the loyalty factor has been ramping up for much of the last 20-30 years, and now with so much scandal and blood on the hands of Watchtower, there seems to be no graceful way for WT to weasel out of the pile of $h!t it is now drowning in.

Cooking With Cast Iron
by Simon ini can't even remember what got me interested in pans, probably wanting to try cooking more and watching some cooking videos on youtube, but i kind of started wanting to get a cast-iron skillet specifically so started reading up on them.
hey, if you're going to spend $50 on something you need to study them and create a comparison spreadsheet ... right?.
not only did cast-iron look great for cooking but there are some studies that show risks to aluminium / teflon cookware ... not that the wts was "right" about aluminium, but teflon can give off carcinogenic chemicals if overheated (so what if it chips off into your food?).

Simon, I think I bought the same set that you have. And the same disappointment with my first fried egg on it. LOL
It's been about 6 months since I bought it, struggling with food sticking to the pan, and have been resorting to using parchment paper between the stuff I cook and the pan. I was okay with that because I like the pans. I'll have them forever.
Like you, I didn't realize that "pre-seasoned" meant that more seasoning was required, until I saw your thread a couple of days ago. Thanks for sharing! My pans are now seasoned to the point where things don't stick to it, no matter how hard I try! ;)

We are becoming champions of grief. We lost twin B.
by Darkknight757 inlast week we had a reassurance ultrasound with our ob.
she was just supposed to check heartbeats on the two little ones and they were going strong!
but because she had extra time and she can be quite anal about her work (which is a good thing) she decided to take some measurements.

If you had to choose
by dothemath inif you had to choose to belong to 1 religion, i was curious as to what any on the forum would pick.. i realize most here are likely atheist (i would have to say i'm agnostic), but if any would like to share their opinion, and maybe why?.
-

I'm atheist. It chose me, I didn't choose it - it was the result of realizing that almost all religions are for sheep who needed someone or something to follow.
My philosophy is grounded in love, kindness, dignity, respect (for myself and others). Secular humanism seems to fit those criteria rather nicely.

i don't know what it means that donald trump's son-in-law's father (charles kushner) bought those buildings, but thought it was interesting..

Not knowing, apparently, is not a good enough excuse according to the law, and especially not according to WT.
Surely their massive legal team did their due diligence in researching the source of the money??

Finkelstein:
You're right: in the big scheme of things money and property changing hands is really not a big deal. But, from the perspective of a JW who believes their Organization™ is above all reproach, and would *never* take money from anyone whose values didn't mesh with their published values, it is a pretty interesting scenario.
After all, if you can be DFd and labelled as corrupt beyond redemption for smoking or using the swimming pool at the YMCA or buying a lottery ticket or accepting a bribe or selling cigarettes in your corner store, how can they justify selling their property to someone with such a corrupt history? Could it be that they are party to a money-laundering scheme?
All I'm suggesting is that this transaction could possibly raise some eyebrows and maybe even open some eyes among some JWs and cause them to investigate other scandals within the Organization™, such as the ARC and other sexual abuse scandals, the UN Library Card scandal, the stocks held in trust that brought them dividends from Phillip Morris (tobacco products) and so on.
The WT has a lot of do-as-we-say-not-as-we-do rules, but the one that comes to mind is related to "a little leaven (corruption) ferments the whole loaf (renders the entire [whatever] corrupt)" Gal 5:9. Individual JWs are expected to aspire to the most stringent and rigorous standards in their day-to-day lives, yet the Organization™ itself just does whatever it wants in order to further its own aims. Also recall the story of Jesus throwing the money changers out of the temple, due to their corruption, and defiling their Holy Place with usury.
I think it might be an interesting episode to share with JW family members (with full disclosure that John Oliver has a potty mouth and isn't afraid to use it).
