'Apostate' is just a JW buzzword. It doesn't have much meaning to me at all.

Apostate - what does the word mean to you?
by Tallon inover a period of time i got to thinking - what does the word 'apostate' mean to me.
having given it some thought, this is my view;.
the org has given the word its own definition and basically use it to demonise people and consider them pariahs.. however, the jw meaning of 'apostate' is a mere word and only has power if recognised as such.

My brain will explode
by Alex Bogdanov ini am so tired to talk to jws that i know.
i think one day i will become rude and ingore them and avoid them.
every conversation ends like this-.
-
jwundubbed
Why are you trying to convince them that you are right and they are wrong. That isn't a typical conversation. It always ends the same way because they are operating under cognitive dissonance and you can't argue logic to someone who doesn't have logical thoughts.
To be honest I think it would be more polite if you did ignore and avoid them. I think that the conversations you are trying to have with them now... is actually you being quite rude.

I don't get why some point to the no tolerance for gays and subjugation of women as a JW thing.
by blownaway insome churches have taken the step to allow gays, women instructing men ect.
but its not a jw thing.
its a bible thing.

If you are going to believe in the bible as the word of god you have to believe that women are not to be in a position over a man, that gays are gross sinners and the bible condemns them to death.
@blownaway,
Could you cite the actual places in the bible where these things are states as truths, please? Can you tell me where it says that I have to believe that? And can you do it from a bible that isn't the JW bible, please? And can you also tell me the historical context in which these things were written? And can you use the non-JW bible to prove that these ideas were meant to last for eternity, please?

I am neither DF'd nor DA'd. My younger sister started a rumor about me when I was about 18-20 and half my family shunned me just because of that. Still to this day I have no idea what the rumor actually was and yet my family is still shunning me.
At best I would be considered inactive.
Around 2014 the JWs were making a big push to shun inactive loved ones to show them the error of their ways. My mom decided to shun my elder sister and I (but not our younger brother who went so far as to join the Navy to get out of the JWs) but she waited 3-4 months so that she could tell me she was shunning me on the day of my graduation from college. Great gal, my mom.
I told her not to bother ever changing her mind because I would never forgive her for that and she was dead to me from then on. Still... I've never been officially kicked out or officially left the cult and yet I'm shunned anyway. I know that my mother and younger sister use the cult practice to A.) try to manipulate people and B.) excuse their awful behaviors. But the rest of the family is just operating without any proof or reason.
It isn't loving and shunning me will only ever make me see that I made the right choice to leave. That was the least error-like move I ever made.

by stuckinarut2 inwow!.
so as many of us know, alex o'connor (cosmicskeptic) did a great video a few years back in response to the appallingly homophobic caleb and sophia cartoon!.
he gets a lot of views for his videos, but this one has more than any other presentation by him!

Disclaimer: Any young ones on this forum, if you are reading this thread... don't look this up. It will take you down a rabbit hole you can never come back from and you just can't un-see some things. Be warned.
You know, back when I saw this originally I had all the same arguments.
This time watching it all I could think was...
"One Man, One Woman".... is that a play on the popular video "Two Girls, One Cup"?
It wouldn't surprise me if JW.org were stupid enough to follow the masses of people playing with that title but unlike those masses having no idea what it is referencing. Ironically, I find both videos equally disgusting.

This is awesome! Can you imagine people showing up out of curiosity because it is a 'big deal'? I don't think the response would be quite what they expect. A free event with videos!!! Provided by people who have no idea what it takes to be entertaining!!! Yeah, it is definitely different! Some blogger or journalist should go and write a review!

Well there you go, all you ambitious & cynical JWs. -- sir82
You forgot to address only the ambitious and cynical MEN.
Do you think they would accept someone who had a female-to-male sex change? You could add that to your list, but that seems pretty extreme. Although... maybe if someone did do that we could get some equality and rights for women to be leaders in the cult.

I think it is far more likely that A.) noting at all will happen and things will go on as they have for way longer than any of us can fathom... until they lose too many members and it just slowly fades into nothing OR B.) the GB will announce that Armageddon has arrived, get everyone to build bunkers and lock themselves in, then run for the hills with their money (you have to know with their tailored suits and nice jewelry that they have money) in off-shore accounts.
Personally, I think A is far more likely. I think they will die out the same way the Shakers did, only slower since they do believe in procreation.

Born ins: did you have "near life experiences"?
by truthseeker ini recently watched the 90s movie fight club for the first time and heard the phrase "near life experience.".
for me, a different definition of this phrase would be someone who grew up in the truth and led a very secluded and restricted life (like me) but on rare occasions actually experienced something that was considered quite normal by most people.. growing up in "the troof" was depressing.
it was characterized by long periods of loneliness.

If it wasn't the cult making my life bizarre, or my mother's abuse making me too terrified to try, then it was constantly moving like nomads that made sure I never had any 'near life experiences'. About the only thing close would have been going to an amusement park with friends or family. Not a big one like Disney or Universal or Sea World, but the smaller ones like town fairs, Worlds of Fun (Kansas) or Hershey Park (Pennsylvania). That was the closest I ever felt to being normal.

You won't believe this ... Jehovah's rich blessing has befallen me !!!
by dubstepped inmy dad died a couple years back (not how you thought this would start, i know).
he was an elder, and a very emotionally abusive father, well before the point where he ever shunned me.
he died pretty much penniless, and never would buy life insurance or anything.

Maybe it was Satan sticking it to Jehovah.
Sorry, had to play devil's advocate for just a moment.
