This is awesome! Can you imagine people showing up out of curiosity because it is a 'big deal'? I don't think the response would be quite what they expect. A free event with videos!!! Provided by people who have no idea what it takes to be entertaining!!! Yeah, it is definitely different! Some blogger or journalist should go and write a review!

Well there you go, all you ambitious & cynical JWs. -- sir82
You forgot to address only the ambitious and cynical MEN.
Do you think they would accept someone who had a female-to-male sex change? You could add that to your list, but that seems pretty extreme. Although... maybe if someone did do that we could get some equality and rights for women to be leaders in the cult.

I think it is far more likely that A.) noting at all will happen and things will go on as they have for way longer than any of us can fathom... until they lose too many members and it just slowly fades into nothing OR B.) the GB will announce that Armageddon has arrived, get everyone to build bunkers and lock themselves in, then run for the hills with their money (you have to know with their tailored suits and nice jewelry that they have money) in off-shore accounts.
Personally, I think A is far more likely. I think they will die out the same way the Shakers did, only slower since they do believe in procreation.

Born ins: did you have "near life experiences"?
by truthseeker ini recently watched the 90s movie fight club for the first time and heard the phrase "near life experience.".
for me, a different definition of this phrase would be someone who grew up in the truth and led a very secluded and restricted life (like me) but on rare occasions actually experienced something that was considered quite normal by most people.. growing up in "the troof" was depressing.
it was characterized by long periods of loneliness.

If it wasn't the cult making my life bizarre, or my mother's abuse making me too terrified to try, then it was constantly moving like nomads that made sure I never had any 'near life experiences'. About the only thing close would have been going to an amusement park with friends or family. Not a big one like Disney or Universal or Sea World, but the smaller ones like town fairs, Worlds of Fun (Kansas) or Hershey Park (Pennsylvania). That was the closest I ever felt to being normal.

You won't believe this ... Jehovah's rich blessing has befallen me !!!
by dubstepped inmy dad died a couple years back (not how you thought this would start, i know).
he was an elder, and a very emotionally abusive father, well before the point where he ever shunned me.
he died pretty much penniless, and never would buy life insurance or anything.

Maybe it was Satan sticking it to Jehovah.
Sorry, had to play devil's advocate for just a moment.

Shunning: Reasoning With JW's
by The Fall Guy inperhaps this line of questioning could agitate a jw's thinking.
it can't hurt.. you: is shunning a biblical teaching?.
jw: yes.. you: so it must be god's law?.

How much LOVE did Jehovah show the human race during the 4,000 years or so leading up to the baptism of Jesus ? - smiddy3
Oh My God! Of course you say that then I have to think about how much love he has shown us since the bible was written... and... well he doesn't do any of the things he used to. He doesn't talk to us at all.
Does that mean that Jehovah is shunning the human race??? <blink><blink><blink>

Things you didn't expect to like...
by sparrowdown instuff you never expected you would do or enjoy doing as a non-witness.... researching - always thought i hated study and reading turns out it was just wt literature i hated studying and reading.
having political opinions and just having opinons and beliefs that are not set in stone and that i am free to assess, review and adjust as i become more aware of imformation .
droping the f-bomb every now and again to make a point feels surprisingly good but that may just be post-religious rebellion that wears off... eventually.

Talking to strangers. When forced to go door to door... I hated it more than anything else. Later, I was a hairdresser for 10 years and I had to learn how to talk to strangers and how to make conversation. It's actually quite enjoyable when I do it because I want to and not because I am being forced into it.

Heb. 1:2-3 Proof we should worship Jesus?
by NikL injw.org believes that jesus is not god but a separate entity.
let's go with that for the time being.
in the referenced scriptures the writer of hebrews says that jesus "sustains all things by the word of his power" and has been "appointed heir of all things".

Using a spiritual/religous text to determine if you should worship their G/god...
At best that is a circular argument. At worst... just really dumb. I mean... think about it.
But let's say we go with your example. If it is the same as a royal heir to rulership... people respect Prince Charles but they don't refrain from turning their backs on him or give him any of the other behaviors only given to the ruler of England because he isn't the ruler of England yet. So, by your own example, Jesus shouldn't be worshiped until he takes over the rulership... and thus becomes God himself.

Cost of a home bible study? Free
Watching a dog pee on the hate propaganda? Priceless.
Side Note: How much do they think worldly people pay for home bible studies?

The main reason that you cannot reason with a JW, which by the way is talked about a lot in this forum, is called Cognitive Dissonance. Reason doesn't work when there is a disconnect that interrupts reason and logic.
The person could potentially cite the ideas of respect towards parents and parental obligations towards children. But even if they have no argument against your point, they will simply disconnect from the argument entirely and tell you that times have changed and God sends his laws to the GB now. It may be ignorant and lack logic and reason, but it is a circular argument that can't be argued against. They believe what they believe, and trying to argue with them won't change their minds.
Even when I couldn't argue a person's point (and that was all the time when defending my JW beliefs) I could always simply refuse to argue and put up that my belief is what it is and can't be changed. Then, even though I couldn't stand up for my own beliefs I would feel threatened with people trying to tell me that my beliefs were wrong. And that would make me think of all the instances where the literature and the studies talk about how Satan and worldly people will try to break you down. It did the opposite of what you seem to be wanting to do. It made me dig in deeper.
So, yeah, it could hurt. It might sew a seed of doubt or it might sew a seed of self-righteousness. I didn't leave because someone showed me the error of the beliefs. I left because I was shunned based on a rumor. I left because I personally saw inconsistencies in the way people behaved and the way they said they behaved. I left because the way people treated others was wrong. I left because I realized that no 'man' had the right to come between me and my relationship with God, and no man had the right to speak to me as though they were speaking for God, especially since they were getting it wrong.
A lot of people leave or stay in because of a lot of reasons that have nothing to do with JW doctrine and beliefs.
