Preparation for Dateline & online interest

dateline is just 24 hours (give or take) away.

i really do expect to see a great deal of online activity as people search for more information.

jwd is likely going to be one of the most visited due to the large amount of information posted here on the subject, much by silentlambs themselves.. i also expect to see people visiting randy's excellent site as well as watchtower observer for copies of documentation,news articles, etc.

Please understand that I really respect everyones opinions here. I know many are hopeful that this Dateline show will open up some gaping hole in the WTS and result in a flood of escaping members who finally have an excuse to leave. But have you all forgotten how difficult it was to question your own long held beliefs? Have you forgotten that the WTS holds a heavy hand and scares the hell out of anyone who tries to leave with the threat of DF and shunning?

I just don't agree that this show is going to have such a huge and dramatic affect on this site or other "apostate" sources. I do think it will help some people to finally take steps to leave but it takes time when you're scared to death of losing everything. Even after I realized it was all crap it took me a while before I was comfortable speaking out against these men who have the power to ruin my family.

Maybe I will be proved wrong. I hope so. At any rate, I won't be staying up nights waiting for my local dubs to call me and admit they are wrong. And I wish you all the best, whatever happens. Hopefully this will be the beginning of a more thorough media investigation of the practices of the WTS corporation.

they say that since jws df unrepentant baptized members and insist on jw family members restricting association with df members that jws try to break up families.

what do you think about this charge?.

Hi StinkyP,

it's the rare JW that will actually debate or carry on an intelligent discussion on topics that call in to question the "truth". I hope you are able to find a JW or two to talk to. So far, I have had only one discussion with an active JW, who used to be a friend, that could be considerred at least partially intelligent. That was over a year ago and he's never been back. All the JW's run like hell from this kind of stuff, or they do this troll crap to get their jollies.

You can have some nice discussions though with former JW's who are no longer afraid to speak their mind. Many here, and there are few other places on the net as well. Welcome aboard.

i think it is wise for us to rise up and be counted so that we know who each other are.

we can't possibly answer that question in a single thread, but I suggest you repost to a new topic and you will get some good responses. Also, keep reading. After you've done your objective study I think you will get your answer. Check out the links at the bottom of the page also. (My short answer is that JW's do not serve the same god that you have come to understand is your god. They tell you that, and even some believe it, but the reality is that they do not know the traditional god of christianity. I'll be happy to elaborate when you start your other topic thread)

I know, it doesn't make any sense but that's what they still teach. They say Jesus sat at his fathers side until 1914, only taking care of the church. He didn't get his kingship until 1914 and his first act was to toss the red guy with the pitch fork. Come on, you don't get that from the scriptures? What's the matter with you? [g]

Help me save my mother!

my mother was disfellowshipped 20 years ago for taking up smoking again when she was going through difficult times, no one from the new kingdom hall we were attending (had just moved out of state) bothered to help her at all, just gave her a few weeks to quit or be disfellowshipped.. at any rate she has spent the last 20 years in hell, believing she has betrayed her god and hoping she dies before armageddon so she'll have a chance of resurrection!.

if someone can tell me where to get access to irrefutable proof of the societys association withe the un, and their statement regarding their withdrawal, i believe she will see the error of their ways and start to live a full life again.

this association is something she has not heard of at all, but i cannot bring it up to her until i have documentation.

Children, Advice, Agency and $$$$$$$

the watchtower society has occupied an enormously important place in the lives of millions.

i believe this is especially true for those raised in the religion.

based on the wts published statements, the teaching of wts representatives and their parents, jw children are methodically indoctrinated to believe that the watchtower is god's organization - his channel for communicating with mankind.

I have wondered for a long time why we can't take legal action against the WTS. The traditional answer is that the law protects them as a religion and no one has been successful in the courts to challenge their identity under the law. Is there a chance that this angle of the WTS being an agency could be successfully used to fight these guys who destroy our families and personal reputations? Or has there always been a chance in the courts but no legal agencies have been willing to take it on. Is it the money? Could a class action suite be used? I don't know the legal loopholes but there should be some way for us to fight back in the courts since these guys are only hiding behind the label of religion. If it could be proved that the WTS is responsible for bad advice and creating unstable families maybe they will be forced to change their df/shunning policies in order to avoid constant harrassment in the courts.

If I understood correctly, drachir, you were reinforcing the thought that pseudo-doctor Bethea-Jackson was full of shit. I agree. I was around 20 years ago and can confirm that child-abuse issues were no less of a concern for parents than they are now. Is she trying to say that 20 years ago child-molestation was not considered a crime? Even if that were true it does not change the fact that JW's claim to be governed by god and under his direction and have never claimed to wait for Caeser's law before acting. They've always been so proud of being able to do god's work even "underground". This video is a smoke screen. I'll be surprised if they keep it on their site after the Dateline episode airs. But maybe these guys, the WTS, are getting dumber.

I wonder if the NBA playoffs will affect the start time here in NY. What time should I set my VCR for? I think I'll set it to tape in Estended Play mode and get six hours. Hopefully I'll catch the Dateline show somewhere in there.
