ok all you non-brits, tell us how you love/hate our british cuisine.. 1. roast potato's.. 2. liver and onions.. 3. yorkshire pudding.. 4. devilled kidneys.. 5. steak and kidney pie.. 6. fish and chips.. 7. breast of pigeon.. 8. vindaloo.. 9. roast lamb.. 10. stilton blue cheese.. englishman.. bring on the dancing girls!

3. Yorkshire pudding. - don't know

4. Devilled kidneys. - don't know

5. Steak and kidney pie. - don't know

6. Fish and chips. - the best! Not done very well on the east coast of USA (on this side of the pond) but I grew up on it in the Pacific Northwest where it's done very well.

7. Breast of pigeon. - don't know

8. Vindaloo. - Not sure of this name but I'm a big fan of Indian cuisine, especially Punjab.

9. Roast lamb. - not sure. Sounds good.

10. Stilton blue cheese. - Love it.

We have an English pub nearby in Poughkeepsie where we can sample these types of dishes. But it's obvious that the menu has been "Americanized".

And finally, Beefeaters, by a wide margin!

Well, I guess I'll add anewperson to my list of "ignore". I have a hard time reading through all that stupidity.

Lee, this idiot acts like he's a stock-holder in the AJWRB corporation. Is there any such corporation and are you guys required to direct your activities according to the directions of such idiots? I can appreciate only too well how much time and sacrifice it takes to even attempt to reform the assinine policies of the WTS and applaud any effort you make at whatever pace you are able to keep. Just ignore this asshole and keep up the good work.

Addressing you personally, anewperson, I have used some very critical and attacking words to describe you here. I used these terms on purpose because even though you may not infact actually be an asshole or an idiot, your words evoke that kind of response from me. Others here are more polite and avoid typing in such offensive words although they may want to. I just started typing and those were the words that came to mind and I didn't hold back.

If you are at all a reasonable person you may now realize how difficult it is to read your rhetoric and attacking prose on this subject. While you did not use the type of words I used to attack you above (i.e. idiot and asshole) the effect of your words is the same. If you have critical advice that will be of any help you must be more tactful and first place yourself in the other persons shoes. You are way out of line here and even if you have some valid points your approach makes them moot. Lee and the others are NOT part of the problem. They are obviuosly part of the solution and you can't find a way to encourage them without offending them first. Get off your damn condemnatory soapbox and get down in the trenches and work with them before you open your big mouth again.

Well, I agree with Nic in that labels are ugly and not necessary for healthy individuals. However, it can be helpful to compare your own ideas with those of others and formulate your own ideas and beliefs. When your beliefs are similar to those of others there seems to be a kind of kinship that surfaces. But it's important to be careful about forming aliances and separating into labelled groups in an attempt to validate your existance. As long as you don't get to feeling that your labelled beliefs are somehow more correct than some other labelled beliefs I suppose it does no real harm.

As to the ideas labelled as "Deist" I tend to personally see the value in them and consider myself in basic agreement with them. One of the foremost proponents of those ideas was Thomas Paine in the 18th century. Read the "Age of Reason" and you will see what I mean.

But Deist is just a label given by those who classify such things as theology so don't get too excited about trying to classify your own beliefs. You will likely find that you agree or disagree with many ideas not officially considerred "Deist".

trouble for my friend

i have posted many times about my jw friend, who still talks to me.

for years we have maintained our friendship, because i have never been df'd or da'd.. she called me this morning to tell me that her husband is being called in for a meeting, by the elders, to discuss her association with me.

we are wondering, now, if a lurker on this board has turned her in.

From the standpoint of your friend I don't see how they can possibly tell her to stop associating with you since you are only inactive. She can simply tell them to stop creating schisms and mind their own business. I suspect that they have other motives. Maybe they are looking for someone to finger you and act as a witness against you. She won't talk so it may come to nothing. Her husband can only supply hearsay evidence. Not that any of these "rules" of justice will make any difference. They will do whatever they want to do and if they think it's time to "protect the flock" they'll make a show of force with whomever makes the best target.

I hope it all just blows over. But I know it must be unsettling to think about the possibilities. I hope your friend can get past all the bull-shit and keep up her relationship with you in spite of the pathetic attempts to disrupt it by the fools her husband entertains as friends.

My wife is always looking at me strange while I'm listening to music on the radio. I'm terrible with knowing the words and she knows them and tells me they are about sex. I say "cool" and she gives me the evil eye. Ha!

Music is our poetry and is great for expressing our deepest emotions and needs. The JW's and other fundies are all living in a dream world where the mere mention of sex or a penis is considerred tantamount to to murder. Actually, you can listen to a song about murder and probably not get chastised by your Mom but if she senses anything in them there music files about sex, watch out!

An Opinion Question

do you think that it is better to be disassociated or disfellowshipped or do you think that drifting away is the best option?

I didn't "drift" away. I walked away. Quit cold turkey. Only one brother has ever came by to find out why. Of course, they all know why since I had several discussion with all my elder friends while still in and they knew they had no answers. I fully expect to soemday be DF'd. I don't give a crap what they do or think. I accept any of the JW's who treat me kindly but I do not try to keep a low profile. Just so happens that most of my habits are not very threatening to them right now. But I am thinking of getting more involved in the local community and politics so that may change.

Anyway, I think it depends on who is around you and how it might affect them. If you don't mind risking your relationships, including your marriage, than taking more overt action could work out OK. But if you could lose everyone and everything of importance in your life than going slow and carefully makes more sense. My wife has chosen to stay with me while at the same time supporting her JW religion. She knows my stand and is very upset about it but I am willing to take the risk that she and other family members may end up shunning me. You have to be sure in your own mind and be confident with yourself and then just let the chips fall as they may. I think it is better to be out and getting on with my life but I respect the choice of others to stay in a fade in an attempt to help their friends. I'm not really happy that I have no friends anymore and that is a direct result of my walking away. But I am making new aquaintances and will rebuild a network of friends. Know your own personality and make you choice accordingly.

i got mails from a fellow who thinks that i am a jw co. he is so enthusiastic that he wnat to become a jaydub and is sending me mails requesting a biblestudy by e-mail.

of course i can not do that.. so, can any of you jw's who read this, contact him and conduct a biblestudy with him?
