I know when I was at a certain congregation I was at odds with a elder he was gunning for me. they even called a couple of commodities I don't think they were judicial. But the only thing that stopped me from getting DFed was my Grandfather was a highly respected elder. Other wise it would have been rail road city.

DFed for opening an xmas present.

This last week I stopped at an antique store that I go to now and then. The lady who owns it is about 62 and very nice. I was looking at a vintage 1963 Ouija board. and I said to my wife can you imagine if we had this when one of the elders came over. The owner looked at me and said were you a JW? I said yes and she held out her fist for a fist bump. She talked to me for about 45 min and even had tears in her eyes talking about how her family would not talk to her. She was DFed and took the time and effort to get reinstated then faded away. She was DFed because she was at her office work and they did a gift exchange for Xmas. She did not buy anyone anything but was given a gift and opened it. Someone ratted on her and she was DFed for opening a xmas gift. That is not the behind the curtain reason. She was engaged to an elders son by coercion and then said she did not really love him and broke it off. Since then she was a huge target of the elder and his family. Even though she was reinstated the elder and family have told her family they are not to associate with her because of her not going to meetings. I told her she really needed to get on line and talk to others on JW sites. It really helps. This is some 40 years on and its still a cause of pain for her.Anyone ever hear of getting DFed for opening a xmas present?

The new JW Bible
by silas hobbs ini was recently informed that the new jw bible was reviewed by some academic type person who rated it as one of the best translations available.. has anyone heard of this person and if so what is his reasoning for giving it such a compliment?.

A brief summary is that Professor BeDuhn does not appear to be as unbiased he claims. He also derived his conclusion based on only eight verses which he considered key to detecting theological bias in a translation. He concluded that the New World Translation and the New American Bible (a Catholic translation) were the most accurate in the eight issues on which he critiqued the translations.
I listed a number of examples where New World Translation obviously alters the biblical text to match Jehovah's Witnesses doctrine. That is, the New World Translation does the opposite of what Professor BeDuhn claims makes a good translation.
I also cite evidence (some from a court case) that the translators of the New World Translation were not knowledgeable about the Hebrew and Greek languages. I also list several well-known Greek scholars and translators who did not have kind things to say about the New World Translation.

Need Help fleeing my country

heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of earth, overlying our hard hearts.. in planning for my escape from the borg, i've come to the sad realization that the best thing for me to do considering factors like: breaking my parents and siblings hearts, lack of support groups, lack of counseling groups for cult survivors, and the prospect of finding a mate who shares my secular views on life, i've come to the realization that i need to leave my country and even my continent africa.
i know i sound desperate, but what can a brother do when all he can do is cry out for help or die in silence.

Do the Witnesses still allow women to preach in men's prisons?

some would do the fall in love and get married to a new convert who had a long prison sentence.
if the witnesses had half a brain they would stop this before it ever got started.

Dealing With Smelly People
by minimus ini can never understand why some people simply stink.they don’t smell themselves??
i knew of certain jws that had to be counseled many times because they refused to regularly bathe, wash their hair or use deodorant.
and it’s not just witnesses.

To assume that smell is because of not taking care of ones self is just wrong thinking. First off many people have conditions. I had an uncle that would shower before meeting his hair still wet would walk in and have a smell. His trucks for work would carry that smell. Now they can treat sweat glands with botox to temporarily stop sweat glands from producing in people with hyperactive glands. I am sure some may have bad hygiene rabbits but I am sure the majority have a health issue.
