I admit that every hobby or artistic endeavor was poisoned by scripture and guilt as well, though this is not unique to JWs. "Religion poisons everything," as Hitchens said.

How to believe you deserve to relax
by rebel8 ini was brainwashed to believe you generally shouldn't relax much.. demons can enter you if you meditate or even relax your brain too much for one second.
always be on guard.. scriptures criticizing laziness were repeated often.
https://www.openbible.info/topics/laziness "be kind to yourself" and all that.. you need to strenuously exert yourself for jehoopla and you're worthless if you don't.. most forms of fun were extinguished.

Leaving the jws is a "lifestyle choice" according to a counsellor
by purrpurr inso i had my first appointment with a counsellor, of course i explained about being a born in jw, mentally leaving, the penalty of doing so and therefore the mental strain of pretending to be someone i'm not.
her response was that she couldn't help me with that because leaving a cult was a "lifestyle choice".
i tried to say to her that its a cult not a religion and how it brain washed me but no.

She has a career to defend. Telling people to leave a cult because it is causing them harm puts her at risk from its adherents, leaders, lawyers, and possibly - for all she knows - even you.
So, lifestyle choice. Take it as a codeword if you must.

Is the year 2020 the new prediction for Armageddon?
by Disassociated Lady 2 ini have had a conversation this evening with a jw friend i have known since childhood.
he is of the opinion that armageddon will have come and gone within the next 5 years.
are the jws now pinpointing 2020 as the supposed year?

Marking Talks are back!?!?! - New Name!
by thedepressedsoul inwhen i was younger i used to hear about "marking talks" given in the past.
i believe they stopped in the 80's or 90's.
basically, if someone wasn't baptized or doing something unrepentant, they would get a "marking talk" and be treated the same as a df person.

They've used them in the past for people dating non-believers?
Oh, did they ever. I was threatened with one, because my then girlfriend (now wife) was a born-in who wasn't yet baptized.

Why I admire the more risky O.P starters.
by The Rebel instarting an o.p is a challenge.the person who starts the o.p then relies on fellow posters to obtain feedback and hopefully keep the o.p, informative and positive.
so starting an o.p becomes " shared accountabilility" between o.p starter, and thread poster.. some o.p's will be more of a risk factor than others, because some topics are more controversial.
so when i start an o.p i now ask myself what is:-.

@Simon, don't you love that?
The irony is that people getting attacked are sometimes the most gentle, caring people who want everyone to have an equal opportunity and an equal say. Ellen DeGeneres getting attacked by SJWs because [just try and think of the reason anymore] is ridiculous.
This is also where I turn to a Stoic idea to observe nature, including human nature, and not try to go against it all the time. We've been on this planet for 200,000 years and we've been consciously aware for 80,000 years. We're kind of awful. So while we can and should try move the human race forward, we shouldn't really be surprised when it shows its awfulness again.
Edit: I remember. Ellen had a picture of herself riding Usain Bolt. They were having fun and Bolt shared it, too. The snowflakes called it racist and an allusion to slavery. Yeah, no.

The JWs who don't believe JW doctrine
by evilApostate into me it seems that there are a growing number of jws who reject a few to most doctrines of jws and yet still believe that they are in "jehovah's organisation.
" i have come across quite a few who for example, reject the 1914 doctrine entirely and yet remain psuedo-jws.. take a look at this page: http://e-jw.org/index.php?threads/the-ultimate-generational-leap-rebuttal.2521/#post-21793.
those are jws who reject 1914 and even the gb.

I tried to attend meetings and gatherings knowing full well that evolution is a fact and with some influence of areligious Buddhism. I had also once thought that we could travel into space in the new system...
- At the meeting, evolution was called a false teaching.
- At a gathering, the first thing the old sisters brought up once they got in the door was evolution and Buddhism.
- At that same gathering, a young brother talked about how great it'll be float around in space in the new system.
It was so surreal. My cognitive dissonance became physically manifested and I had to leave. I don't see how anyone can want to stay if they know this and this and this and that is not true.

Aethiest
by midnight inwhat happens if you openly declare you are an aethiest, i don't mean go round forcing my view on everyone , but when pressured to go to the kingdom hall etc you stated you are an aethiest and no longer believe in god , surely you can't be accused of apostasy as you simply don't believe in anything ?
anyone experienced this ?.

I can corroborate that. My wife is not an atheist, but a nurturer who doesn't want to lose her family. She'll listen about some things, but there is a line. I'll gently touch that line sometimes, but not too often, and always with affection. Never just crash into it or expect her to believe everything you've said or thought or read.
Gradual, gradual, be ever so gradual.
