"Casting Lots", How Was It Considered Acceptable?
by JW_Rogue inthe jws strongly condemn any form of gambling or decision making that invokes luck or divination.
however, no where in the bible is the "casting of lots" which basically amounted to gambling specifically condemned.
also, many jws don't realize that jewish priests (levites) were instructed to make decisions using the urim and thummin which many scholars argue was a divination practice similar to casting lots..

One could argue that a referendum, that putting a decision to a vote is a form of divination. If it's rolling dice or throwing darts or reading stalks and checking the results against some sort of list of possible outcomes, then voting is divination too.
Of course, a JW might freak the F out over that ("So democracy really IS from demons!").

- "Ya know, it says to pray in your interior rooms, not out in the open for everyone to see you doing it."
- "What? Are you ASHAMED of your beliefs?!"
- "You must be fun at gatherings."

I like what my dad did, relative to the ostentatious alternative. He just got his plate and said, "It's good that Jehovah provided this." And that was his public prayer.

Any other religions match the JW's on these items....?
by EndofMysteries insince many things have changed, new religions, and religions changing doctrine, etc, for everytime a jw says nobody except jws, 1. refuse to go to war.
2. refuse to be in politics 3. preach about god's kingdom.
4. don't allow sin (dfing for fornication, etc).

It's actually in the rules for the JW's that they keep hidden. You can not be disfelloshipped for joining the military. Found this out less than a week ago.
They wouldn't want to go to jail again.
When you vote or join the military, you are disassociating yourself. So, you get the same treatment as being disfellowshipped, but they didn't disfellowship you for doing that, for serving your country or acting within your civil rights.
It's a distinction that rides the technical line between chicken shit and bull shit.

Questions for the Biblical God
by Saethydd ini consider myself an agnostic, i feel no sense of certainty that there is a single all-powerful creator who made the entire universe, and yet i must acknowledge that the universe is a large place that is filled with much beauty so the possibility of an intelligent mind being behind it is certainly there.
lately, however, i do have more and more doubts about the god of the bible being a candidate for that all-powerful creator should such a being even exist at all.. these doubts are founded upon a number of questions for which i have never found any satisfying biblical or logical answer.
instead, i was simply chided with the remark that "god's actions aren't always meant to be understood by humans," which i found to be a very unsatisfying answer.

Why would God punish his people for straying from the "true religion" by sending them to a place that would have such a bad influence on them by exposing them to even more idolatry?
Profound plot hole in the Bible.

So I told my mom that the GB is asking for money whilst wearing Rolexes.
She said maybe they're gifts. I said that if so, that's quite a big gift and I would wonder what the favor was, I wonder why the Rolexes weren't sold, and I wonder why a donation wasn't accepted instead. So at the end of the day, they're asking for money whilst wearing Rolexes.
She said judge not that you're not judged! So I said I don't make it a habit of wearing Rolexes or EVER asking for money. So... Yeah.
Fugly or not, these dorks have sincere followers.

A Comforting Thought About Watchtower
by freemindfade inthis organization will never again be what it was by 2013-2014. .
they peaked in the form they were, i believe they were already falling apart in ways, but from the outside and to the majority r&f, things likely still seemed on the up and up.
browsing through the boards and just keeping my finger on the pulse of what's happening, this organization will never again be what it was.

I care to the extent that I don't wish anyone else to enter this cult or continue, but I know that they will. I don't want the same story to be lived out again, but I know that it will. Eventually, the day might come when we can whistle at Babylon's passing, but it isn't here yet and there are bigger threats in the world.
