New Insights on History of Jesus

last year on h20 much was discussed about whether jesus was a historical person.

it was brought out that no mention of jesus is ever made outside the works of christians (presuming that all christian historians are biased) except for the the writings of roman historian, flavius josephus.

and, even the brief mentioin of jesus in josephus works are challenged by some as being spurious addtions to some manuscripts.

I have read some intersting searches about the life of Jesus and one of the things that crop up is that some have found references to Jesus after the time he was suppose to have died. One source put him in the area of Babylon and married, as well as having children. Another puts him in the area of Gaul (now France), also married and having childern. Not to say that any of these are true and correct, but just an added speculation to his life and times.

Josephes, spoke of about 5 different people named Jesus, it was not that uncommon of a name in Israel. The real question is which one is the Jesus of the bible as he was not a believer, as you said, in the idea the Jesus was the Christ.

Got Busted By Wife?She Said She Want Tell.(update)

i recently picked up the nasty habit of smoking.

i have been hiding it from my wife for about a month now,(she is still a witness) to make a long story short i only smoke when i drink and go to the casino.

in lake charles well she busted me and was actually nice about it and said it would be our secret as long as i did not bring them in the house are ever smoke around the kids.. sounds like she might be comming around maybe, i only hope.. anyway i had to tell someone.

It is like one of the most serious DF'ing crimes for the JW's. My brother-in-law was DF'd for it. I remember that way back when my parents had to quit smoking because they would have been DF'd if they didn't when it was made a rule by the WTS.

Evolution Anyone???

i read alot of posts and it seems that though you all (or most) have left the kh, you still believe in a "father" or a "jesus" that created everything.

since i too and one that left the kh, i have delved into science and have come the conculsion that god does not exist in a spirit form, but is life itself.

the "creator" of all things is evolution.

I too have come to much the same ideals that you have, that religions are really a way for man to express the ideals of how we came about. But I have not been able to accept evoloution. The problem with evoloution, that I have seen is there is no connection between the spicies, they lay claim to selective breading, but when this happens you still have the same type of animal, i.e. you bread a horse for special features you still have a horse, same in a dog ect. Now I realize we are talking thousands or even millions of years for a new spicies but I just cannot buy into it totally. I even watch a show about some seals in Russia that they say have evolved into a different spiecies of seal, but they are still a seal, not something else. Now do not get me wrong, as I feel that the idea of evoloution is a very viable answer to creation, and I would for the most part accept it if they could show the actual links. But so far they are having a difficult time doing this, even through DNA and genitic testing so far.

Now let me run this one by ya's, and it's one idea that I feel I can accept, but I'm sure many will scoff at the absurd idea LOL. Terra Forming. Basically the idea that we were planted here by a superiour being or just a more advanced group of beings. Perhaps even had, at one time, been a group of them stranded here or marooned here in the distant past. This actually would answer the questions of why there were many other speicies of human in the distant past, that they may have been a failed expieriment in the establishing of humans on earth.

They have found that Homo Sapiens and some of the other spiecies where here during the same time period, and perhaps were inter bred, and ended up developing some of the different races that we have. That might even expain why I'm such a harry beast, LOL, (being Celtic) and the other groups like the native americans and many other races not having much of a rug on their bodies LMAO. Who knows LOL but it is an idea.

And no I'm not nuts or some crazed idiot, LOL although I know some of my friends think I'm nuts LOL. If someone had run this idea by me a few years ago I would have thought "what nut ouse did this guy sneak out of. But I've done some research on it and is a very viable prospect, as much as either evoloution or creation.

Ok just rambling here.

i've been communicating back and forth with an old friend from my teen years, who is now an elder.

i used to be a jw when i knew him and he was not very spiritual so i was completely surprised at his current status.

(before i get questions on if i am "interested" in this elder, i just want to say that i'm happily married to a super-cool guy and have no intimate feelings for this elder whatsoever.

Daniel didn't STRIVE to achieve the post he was assigned to, he was appointed to it due to the respect that he gained for his God-given ability to interpret the kings dream.

Well would it be ok for one of Jehovahs witnesses to become the trusted advisor for G. Bush and advise him on political and world affairs? No! I think even if it were involving his dreams it would still be no.

I think that Amazing was only making you, well trying to make you understand, that the Jehovahs witnesses are not just seperating themselves from the world of false religion (their opinion of false religion) but are even going to a point of covering up unlawful actions on the part of members of the congragation.

The real problem is the programing that you have been convinced of, and are not allowed to view anything against the WTS or JW's. I wonder what they are afraid of, The truth perhaps. They tell everyone else to "examine your religion" but when it comes to examining the WTS that is apostacy. Perhaps with an open mind you should some day take a look, If after you look, you could still say they are lies ya know.

You silly apostate...............How silly can an apostate get anyway?

Do you even know what an apostate is? It is not only someone that leaves the WTS. It is someone that changes his/her belief a turn about in a belief. It can even be compared to a member of the Democratic (political) party, switching to the Republican party. So unless you were raised in the WTS religion you are yourself an apostate, and someone that was never one of JW's and objects to the teachings is not apostate. But yes if someone leaves the JW's would be apostate, but it does not make them wrong and an apostate is not a nasty word as you seem to feel it is. because it is very likely if you yourself are not an apostate, when you go to the KH you hang around many apostates.

i was trying to prove to a spanish site that the bible uses euphemisms in order to cover up certain words of sexual origin.

one of those is "grove" which is used in order to cover up the sexual images of asherah.

WOW, interesting post. I have done some studying and found out that the god now refered to as YHWH in the bible was orginally a cannonite god, and was extensively worshiped in the hill or mountain areas in and around cannon. He was the God of War for them and was assoatied with Baal and infact was one of the Baal gods (if I remember right about the last part). Basicilly what seem to have happened was there was a cult of his developed amonst the habraus (what the egyptions called the now known Hebrews) after what is known as the exidous. he eventually became much more different then the god he origanally was as a god of war, and became the god of peace and love. As well as the one and only almighty god. I can find references to this, and can post them if you like, in another post. But I found your post facination.

Need your help with a little research!!!

i have found something interesting in the danish new world translation of the holy scriptures.

and i would like to know, how the other nw-translations render the same verse.. it's the "famous" words in jeremiah 29:10, which in the nwt's rendering usually (at least as far as i know) seem to depict and strengthen the seventy years as a period of captivity, instead of servitude under babylonian supremacy!.

Hmmmm, larsguy, you are funny.
First off, we are to accept the one only documantation (the old testiment) that say's it was in 607, and it was not written to influence one religous point of view and their view of history? Yet the other evidence that has been unearthed, says something different. I guess I would believe the "one" over all the others, sure I would, makes sence to me. And yeah the bible was not written with prejudice. Hmmm, Like I said your funny.
