Actually, it is all or most in truth. There was a program on the History channel about the British Longbow. What you just posted was one point they made. I however don't remember them saying anything about the linguistics of it. But the action is, as stated in your post.

Ray was never really an influence on my deciding to leave, I was however starting to doubt the WTS about the time of the 1975 blunder. But even then I felt it was the truth, but just had a hard time understanding how if God was behind them, that they could blunder that bad. I never really read any of his works, however I have read some quotes from his book, here and there. I actually fell away when I saw the unfair way they treated people, I mean if you were a Regular Pioneer, you were almost like a saint to them. When asking for help as a "weak publisher" you were not really given much "real" help. About the only help I saw was a good talking to from the elders to get back to the meetings, and Jehovah would make things right. Well I guess that never happened, so I took matters in my own hands and made matters right on my own, by leaving this bunch of blind mice. Life is much better now. I do not have to balance God and my supporting my family. I don't have to live in fear of doing a wrong and God/WTS spanking me if I foul up. My life is much better, and much happier without the WTS telling me how I should live it.

I agree that the WTS never said "The end would come in 1975", but the hype, and upbuilding, about the date, that they did during the years prior to the fall of 1975 was to a point that they were saying it was going to happen. I remember the district assmebly talks about it, I had wished I had a recording of some of them. But I found the next best thing, Randy has one of the talks in wave format on his sight. It is a talk being given by a District Overseer in 1967, again he does not say positivly it is going to happen, but listen to his building that date up. Listen to the enthusiasm he has about 1975. I find it more a play on words to leave the door open if they screwed it up. Here is the link.

I've thought about that a few times, never thought about going quite that far, but that would be kinda cool. No one here knows me at all, the duds call on my house just like it is any other now. I've been out of it for so many years, moved 10,000 miles away from where I used to be....... hmmmmmmm interesting, but my wife would not go for it I'm sure, she hates me even posting to these boards and going to the JW chat rooms. Sigh.................... it would be soooo much fun though.

I think I started pounding my pud when I was about 12, I had heard fromt he publications how bad it was and such but I never really took it to heart. Then one District Assembly we went to really had a big deal about it. They said it cause all sorts of falicies, like bad memory and such. After the assembly I remember thinking about what they had said and how much it seemed to apply to me. I put it in my head that I had to stop this "Unhealthy" act. As much as I tried (I obstained for as muchas 6 months one time LOL) I just couldn't totally stop. Eventually, it seemed, I felt I was becoming identical to the decription that the assmebly said, IT WAS TERRIBLE!!! I wuold think about the assmebly's words and then it would almost make me want to do it more (LOL), WOW I am such a terrible person, but what the hey, I had fun doing it

A couple of points that also need to be brought out.
One is the physics of dieing on a cross as opposed to a straight up stake. Now according to the bible, Jesus, was on this torture "whatever" for quite a few hours, alive and talking to his fellow condemed neighbor. A study had been done in recient times about the usage of a stake and what would happen if a condemed had been exicuted this way. It showed that he would only have been alive for a few minuites (something under a half hour) he would have suffocated in a very short time. As opposed to being nailed to a cross member, he would have survived for hours, and in some cases they say even a day or so. In the usage of a cross, he would not have actually died from suffocation, but from shock and exposure, which take much longer to kill then not being able to breath.
Another point is stricly linguistic. I have thought about this much and I know the languages of English and Ancient Greek are very dissimular, but still I do think on "our" usage of the words for pole, post and stake. Even today we tend to streach out the meaning of the words, We have Clothesline "POSTS", Telephone and Power "POLES" all can and most do have a cross memeber on them. So it seems also to reason that they as well could have used a simular reference for such an item. Granted that is stricly specualtion, but it's fun to think about LOL.

the only experience i've had with 'apostates' was when i was 7 years old.
i was visiting family across the states and we went to a district assembly.
i remember a group of people outside with signs and billboards.
I was raised as a JW, I never remember any apostates at an assembly, maybe my parents were good at hiding them from me (LOL), But I do remember my mom and dad taking about them, the would discuss the russellites and such, and I thought "how could they turn their backs on Jehovah as they did". I never feared them at all. I was more courious of them I guess. Oh man now I am one.......... Hmmmm I guess were not so bad after all.

I was watching a program a few months back, it was interestng to note that at one time the Mediterranean sea, many thousands of years ago was actually dry, it was as it seemed a vast desert. and too the Black and Caspian sea were much smaller then they are now, and they have even found evidence of settlements in the one of the last two seas (I forget which one it was), giving rise to the question of the biblical flood, that perhaps this is the flood that happened, not really global to us but was to them. Who knows but, someday maybe Atlantis will be found.
