Witness Numbers Going Down???

are the witness numbers going down?

or, are they still increasing?

does anyone have any good data on this?

I read the stats on the webpage you posted, it really appears to m e that the JW's had an increase in meeting attendence and such due to the 9-11 attack. The number of babtisems is still declining or very slightly going up as in compairing 2001 and 2002 there was a slight increase, yet the number of publsihers went up by 2.1%. I think it was all the fence sitters thinking the Great Day was about to arrive, it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few years. But then again with the war on terror it may still climb and the J-Dubs I am sure will use that to their advantage, just as all the other christian churches will. It seems that the largest increase of industrial nations, was in the USA where the actual 9-11 attack too place.

What GOOD has ever come about from Christianity ?!?!

i was just wondering ..... has there ever been anything good come about thanks to christianity?.

all i can think of is oppression, torture, hypocrisy, etc....... .

More people have died in the name of atheism (no God) then that died throughout all history in the name of any one God.

I have a very hard time accepting this statement, although the people you named were known athiests, they did not kill in the name of athiesem, they did in the name of political revoloution and reform and athiesem was a part of it, but not all of it. Yes they did persicute and kill religous people.

1 pound white cheddar, coarsely grated .

stir in the vinegar, thyme and parsley and season with salt and pepper, to taste.. .

Here in Guam they use a marinade that is quite simple and yet very good:

4 cups soysauce
2 cups FRESH lemon juice (Vinigar can be substituted and often is, but not as good in the end)
1 chopped onion
2-3 cloves of Garlic
3-4 slices fresh ginger root chopped
Black pepper to taste

Soak meat usually at least 8 hours ( Chicken, beef or prok are all used in this)

You can vary this recipie with the use of pineapple or other fruits like Papaya ect. I add 1/2cu brown sugar to mine. If you add the pineapple or papaya be careful and not soak for more then a couple hours as these fruits break down the meat tissue. Sesame seed oil is a nice addition, it gives a somewhat nutty taste to the marinade.

Now they also make a condiment called fennadene it's really good to dip your meat into after grilling or to top your rice (here in Guam you can't have a BBQ without red rice)

1/2 cu soysauce
1/8 cu FRESH lemon juice
1/2 small onion (more or less if you wish)
Black pepper to taste
1-20 (Chuckle chuckle) fresh hot peppers crushed (to taste actually)

Yes they have at times said the truth, in numbers, then to turn around and say something totally different in another instance. I'm unsure why but in one place they try to make i t sound as though 1,000's were killed, then in another year or book they chnage their story. You are correct, I will look up the inof againn and post it for you.

Not that it is any less tragic, but the WTS tries to indicate that the JW's were almost wiped out during WW2 in Germany, mentioning at times that as many as 1,000 died and suffered, yet this is not the case. The true fact is that there were only about 200 that died, a tragedy in and of it's self, yet the WTS makes it sound much much worse, playing on the feelings of the public. They exagerate and expound trying to say that they stood up to Hitler, and they did not, in actual fact they tried to jump on the bandwagon with him, according to the resoulotion they drew up and the letter printed in the 1934 yearbook. One place they do not deserve to be is in the Holocost Musem with the others. There were many more catholic and protestants that died and suffered in the camps then JW's.

One thing the WTS does is to white wash they're history at every oportunity they can.

Most Annoying "Kingdom song?"

what's a kingdom song you can remember singing that gives you the creeps now?

mine is "move ahead" i think that was the title, anyway it has so much rhetoric... but the tune is so darn catchy.... darn.... in my opinion, those songs are the perfect example of mind control.

6-15-2003 WT. Says That JW's Would Not Bribe Officials!!!

page 32 shows the example of a young woman in poland who had to make the decision to either follow the simple custom of bribing the teachers with money or gifts to get better grades or to follow the bible and realize that god disapproves of any bribery.

she said," i understood how easy it is to succumb to peer pressure.

i thought it over and since then never shared in this custom again.

Hmmmmm......... what about the custom of paying Mexican Government officials to avoid military service back in the 70's and 80's........... Maybe that's not a bribe

Did Christ start a cult?

interesting thought.

if we say that jw's, mormons, etc.

are 'cults' because they are not affilated with any 'mainstream' religious organisation, and that their founder is a man who becomes a sort of figurehead, could not the same be said of the organisation founded by christ?

The original "Nazarien" movement was in it's self a jewish movement, I'm not sure if it was a cult or not. This is what originally started the "Christian" movement that totally broke from the Jewish religon. The Nazariens still considered themselves to be Jewish in beliefs and religous laws, but not the christians. In the early days after Paul started the Actual Christian religon, it was considered by the Romans to be a Jewish Cult, even though the christians did not accept that they were jewish in religon, or bound by jewish religous laws. So in effect, being that Christianity was much like the Mystery cults in it's make up and beliefs, I would say Paul started a Cult, but as far as Jesus, well, as was stated earlier he has not beyond a reasonable doubt been proven to have existed, but who ever started the Nazarien movement that spawned the Christian religon, really started more of a Jewish movement and not a breakaway cult.

Did Jesus REALLY come from Nazareth?

the gospels tell us that jesus's home town was the 'city of nazareth' .

and in the sixth month the angel gabriel was sent from god unto a city of galilee, named nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was joseph, of the house of david; and the virgins name was mary.. (luke1.26,27).

and all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

I have read the info that, gumby posted, before, but really felt it was full of holes, while on the surface it seems it is not mentioned in history, it is mentioned in the bible books dating from, at the latest, the second century ( I know this is debatable as to the date of the gospels but notice I said "at the latest") so I really feel that Nazareth had existed during the first century just on logical reasoning ( I know some of you chrisians don't think I have a reasoning brain cell in my head but that's debatale too LOL). From the research on it and the lack of historical mention of it outside the bible, it was perhaps just a one or 2 family settlement at that time. with no more then 1-200 people in it at the most.

I have found, that although I feel the bible is a very inaccurate book on historical events, it does appear to be very accurate on places and the location of them. Which would be true if a group was trying to rewrite history and wanting it to be seen as accurate using the common names of places and locals to address the authenticity of the writings. In such a case you surely would not use a place that didn't exist, so I feel that it most likely did exist during the first century, how much before is another question.
