Oh, well you must not have gone high enough in the JW hierarchy, for I certainly do know the secret JW handshake, but I can't tell you...

Why do some believe in alien conspiracies?
by Seeker ini've been thinking why a few here buy into things such as the illuminati conspiracies, or secret alien takeovers of our society, the masons taking over the world, and other far-fetched ideas.
i'm sure there are an abundant number of reasons for this, some of which apply to people in general.
but i think there are factors that are unique to those who have left high-control groups such as the wts.

I've been thinking why a few here buy into things such as the Illuminati conspiracies, or secret alien takeovers of our society, the Masons taking over the world, and other far-fetched ideas. I'm sure there are an abundant number of reasons for this, some of which apply to people in general. But I think there are factors that are unique to those who have left high-control groups such as the WTS. Consider what a JW mind is subjected to:
* Belief that the whole world is secretly being controlled and manipulated by spirit forces.
* Taught that only they have the key knowledge of reality; that everyone else is blinded.
* Taught that everything in the news is really a result of the hidden conspiracy. When such a person leaves the WTS, they can go in various directions. A proportion of those leaving decide, "Never again!" and refuses to listen to anything that hasn't got solid proof. A proportion of those leaving continue to think the WTS is right, and remain fearful of demons. And another group think the WTS is bunk, but that there really is another conspiracy at work. That's the group, already primed to be paranoid by the WTS, that continues to buy into these things. Replace, the words "spirit forces" above with "Masons" or "aliens" and you have their current belief.
Why don't I believe these things? I have been accused of having numerous motives for this, by several persons (this thread is not directed at any one person, but at an idea). I have been accused, either directly or implied, of being:
* Closed-minded.
* Blind
* A mason
* In the conspiracy myself. In fact, I am none of those things. I am very open-minded -- I'll accept anything, just show me viable, testable evidence. I am not a mason, or an alien, or in the non-existent Illimunati. So why don't I believe these things, despite having reads dozens of web-sites full of information about them over the years? For one reason, and one reason only: Lack of viable, testable evidence.
The information presented at these sites are always the same: One person making lots of assertions, with no proof to back it up. "I know of one man, so-and-so, who had the following experience." "I once saw the reptilitian eyes myself!" and so on. Any references given are to other sites or books that contain the same lack of testable evidence. It always comes down, in essence, to 'believe me.'
Sorry, but I'm in the camp of exJWs that wants evidence first. I won't be fooled again by anyone. As it happens, I do believe in aliens, for I think it is highly unlikely the vast universe is devoid of life. In that, I am just like Carl Sagan, who desperately wanted to find evidence of the life he knew must exist in the universe, yet never found any. He investigated UFO evidence with great interest, for he wanted to believe. So do I. I would love to discover alien life among us. I would also be fascinated to discover a vast Masonic or Illuminati conspiracy. It would delight me to find such evidence. Alas, like Sagan, I've yet to find anything credible.
Yet I acknowledge that a JW background can easily prime a person to buy into these hidden conspiracies. I think the WTS, by teaching that the whole world is controlled by hidden spirit creatures, is doing a disservice to the minds of its followers. It engenders paranoia without providing evidence. The effects of this are seen among some exJWs.

An agressive way to get the UN news out
by scary_goat2000 inits obvious at this point that the wts is covering this thing up.. here is an idea about how we might get the un scandal out to the masses.
materials needed:.
1) 3'x5' un flag ( http://www.flagline.com/countries.html).

I don't think it would work to put a flag on the Kingdom Hall. It would leave you open to charges of trespassing and worse.
Also, if JWs think "apostates" are behind this U.N. business, they will just ignore it, shutting their minds to it. If, on the other hand, the newspapers talk about this instead, it can have a much greater impact.
You do have the right idea about the JW gossip trail, but I think that process has already begun.

JWs reasons for the UN fiasco
by AMarie inbefore i get started, please let me emphasize that i am not a witness nor ever will be again.
many of their policies are crooked and underhanded.
however, i did some more research on the un thing and found out valid reasons why the wtbts joined.

Let me try to explain why things are a bit more serious than they appear:
Being an NGO with the DPI doesn't necessarily mean that you are pro-UN. It just means that you can educate the people regarding the UN, which is JWs do, just not in the positive light that is automatically assumed.
First of all, they became an "associate" of the UN, something that is political in nature, which is hypocritical for them to do. They pledged to support the ideals of the UN, while actually condemning the UN to their followers.
Secondly, as you point out, they are also hypocritical for pretending to the UN to be educating in a way the UN would approve, while actually badmouthing them.
Also, being registered with the DPI of the UN means you have access to their resource which Witnesses need in order to quote certain UN officials in their Awakes/Watchtowers.
They don't "need" this, any more than they need to quote these officials. They desired it, they found it expedient, but they didn't need to do this.
Possibly, when xjws found out about it, they removed their names from the list so they wouldn't give people the wrong idea.
That is what happened, but think about it: was it wrong to be associated with the UN? If so, why did they do it? If not, why did they suddenly quit? What "wrong idea" might be given? Why didn't they ever tell JWs they were associating with the UN? If there was nothing wrong, why the secrecy? And if there was nothing wrong, why resign the moment this association came to light?
It is also fact that many other religions figures (priest, pastors, etc....)subscribe the Watchtowers and Awakes, not because they support Witnesses, but because they want their information for the purpose of disputing their doctrines. It sounds to me like the JWs are doing the same thing.
And this is a process that the WTS condemns other religions for doing. Now they are being condemned by their own words.
Does this make more sense now as to why it is so serious? They said one thing, but did another, got caught, and beat a hasty retreat. All while saying absolutely nothing to JWs, not even when they called headquarters to ask about it.

wild beast
by erik indoes anyone have another view or interpretation of the 7 headed 10 horned wild beast and the one that gives it power that beast having one head and 2 horns.
i believe current wt informs the 7 headed wild beast to be the un and the beast that gives it power the 2 honed wild beast to be the american-anglo power.
please give any other alternative views to this prophecy.

how is it that you feel that you are qualified to interpret the Bible, a book that you obviously don't even believe in
So Christians are unqualified to read the Book of Mormon and tell what it is about? Or the Qu'ran? Or Hindu writings? Or Confucious' sayings?
I don't follow this logic.

JW Culture has Changed!
by Amazing inin the late 1960s, i became a jw.
there was a sense of intellectual freedom and more openness to discuss various spiritual and even some social topics.
there was reliance on watch tower literature as an authority, but still the soiciety seem to confine its concerns and left the rest up to individual jws to decide.

There is another factor at work here: the variance between congregations. As JT says, a lot of WTS rules are unwritten, but known. But that leaves a lot of leeway for the local body of elders to decide local standards. Although I'm well aware of congregations that followed the outline to make sure of compliance, I, like Pork Chop, happened to be in a congregation that didn't follow that rule. When I gave talks, I would go all over the place, moving sections arounds, minimizing some sections, expanding others. When I was done with an outline, you could hardly tell how it had begun -- yet I was covering the key stuff, and although I was doing things in a sophisticated manner, if I had been called on the carpet I could easily show how I had covered the material in a way that they hadn't even noticed.
The only comment I ever heard in this area was when an elder told me afterward, "You know, I give this same talk and the way you did it was entirely different." He meant it as a compliment.
So once again we see an example of how the "unity" of JWs is often broken down on the local level, when the bodies of elders decide for themselves whether or not to follow these unwritten rules. This is why when someone comes here and tell us, "I just confessed so-and-so to the elders. How will they react?" our first response should be, "Depends on your elders."

Funny how it is men who write these holy books they claim come from God, and then it is men who are forever getting off the hook in these adultery cases while it's the women who must die for their wickedness. What women go through around the world in the name of religion is hideous.

Please send information, not spam or porn. If you inundate their in-boxes with garbage, they will disconnect that email address and get a new one and you will have to try to figure out the new address.
A better approach is what the rest have said: sending pertinent info as it is uncovered so they never know whether they will be reading a real email or one from us.

Watchtower's Secret Agenda
by cyrano init has been recorded in his own material, his admittance to being a freemason.
" i am very glad to have this particular opportunity of saying a word about some of the things in which we agree with our masonic friends, because we are speaking in a building dedicated to masonry, and we also are masons.
i am a freemason.

Especially if you take into consideration their strange subliminal artwork they put in their publications throughout the years.
Funny, but the kind of person who ignores all the anti-Masonic evidence for Russell is often the same kind of person who sees subliminal images and assumes they were deliberate.
I don't know about either one. But I've yet to see any convincing evidence that Russell was an actual Mason, and I've yet to see any convincing evidence that the artists are deliberately inserting hidden images. Yet I know all about deception from the WTS. Seems as if some folks think on a certain wavelength that lets them accept things as definite when there remains much doubt about it.
