  can someone help me understand the difference between judah and jerusalem.

  i am trying to read gentile times reconsidered and am reading about judah, but am a bit confused.

  help anyone.

  Judah was the country, Jersusalem was the city within the country.

  Think of New York City and United States by comparison.

  a british compliment ... your'e all soooo preposterously predantic!!.

  one thing that always made me question jw thinking so much as a kid, were those 3 dots in quotes taken from professionals in the magazines.

  that space i always knew was a misrepresentation of facts and it interested me highly that to verify such comments was always most difficult in that position.. that lil space i reckon was one of the reasons for my very first initial doubts at around 14. i would always go further in reading than most, past the scripture given in the body of the public talk to check out whether that was in fact what the scriptures were saying compared to the brothers comments.. hooray and cheers for a questioning mind.

  dictionary.com as well as the Concise Oxford, 10th Ed. have no listing for predantic. I did find this on Google:

  which seems to indicate it is a misspelling of pedantic. Perhaps this is an in-joke instead?

  WERE JW'S REALLY INVOLVED @GROUND ZERO?

  my currently devout jw sis told me how "proud" she was of the bro's at the wtc and how they fed , and comforted all those ppl...this told at the meetings i suppose.

  or was this just spin?

  i think i read (was it here) that the doors of hq got locked up so outsiders could not come in..... did they really get involved" or was it enuff to make them look good?.

  Jeff,

  When the JW grapevine gets done with it, it will be Bethel as the chief heroes of the day, and the police and firefighters will be handing plaques to the Governing Body for their assistance, without which the firefighters would have been helpless...

  It just amazes me, now that we have the Net, to see false stories get turned into accepted JW rumors overnight. We all knew JWs think the whole world is watching them, but now we get to see this organizational-level paranoia in action in real time.

  The best proof you can have for God to me is design in creation.

  On the contrary, evolution is a much better explanation for the endless predation that exists in nature.

  Look at the stats of the possibilities that all this could have just happened.

  Evolution doesn't "just happen."

  Many non christian writers/historians have written of the man Jesus...that he truely existed, did what the bible say's he did.

  Not true, hardly any non-Christian writers/historians mention Jesus. It's amazing how little was written about him other than from true believers.

  Unless all these men concocted their stories together for some strange reason they wrote in close detail of one another.

  Except for the details that didn't match, yes.

  Why would non christians lie about him? What would they gain?

  Exactly, which is why the fact they hardly even mention Jesus is so significant.

  This has been discussed numerous times, and here is basically the upshot of it all:

  On 9/11, as thousands of New Yorkers were walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, just yards from Bethel, they did absolutely nothing to help. There were a few JWs among those walking across, and a few of them walked up to Bethel. Once they identified themselves, they were let in and given water and rest. A press release was sent out that day talking about how Bethel helped those JWs who showed up to their doors. Then the press release was taken down, and a new one was put up that had the same information, except this time it did not identify those being helped as JWs, making it sound as if they helped worldly people even though they didn't.

  Since then, there have been numerous emails reported here that claimed JWs went over to Ground Zero to help. In fact, a few select JWs did go to various locations in the city to provide a message without literature. Whether or not they got to Ground Zero is debatable, but doubtable. We have a regular here ("Patriot") who is one of those who has been working at Ground Zero, and he points out that you can't get there unless you are working or otherwise volunteering under very strict security. Possibly some JWs were preaching on the periphery, but it is doubtful that they were actually at Ground Zero as they claimed.

  Another report had President Bush being preached to at Ground Zero. That is a total lie, as not only Patriot was just a few yards away from the President at the time and saw nothing of that kind happen, but the entire presidential visit was shown on TV and at no time did he speak to JWs.

  There was another report that Bethel was ferrying firefighters to Ground Zero, or letting them sleep at Bethel. No independent confirmation has been found for this, and is probably an exaggeration of what did happen, something like a few firefighters were given a lift one day, or the like.

  In short, there is some truth to these rumors in that some JWs have been preaching in the area. That's it. They have not helped, not volunteered, not worked at Ground Zero, not given blood, probably didn't give money, nothing. Most of the email information being floated around, as well as announcements at meetings and at assemblies have been either exaggerations or lies.

  there is a tremendous amount of information on those un/wtbts threads, so if someone has already covered this, i apologize.. away back on page 16 of the first thread, machislopp posted something thats been nagging at me.

  he quoted an article in the guardian mentioning the top 25 recipients of foreign funds in india.

  one paragraph included the wtbts.

  This UN thing has been a huge scandal, I've seen it on the news, radio, newspaper, NOT! No big whoop! lol...

  What a fascinating concept. So it's OK for the WTS to get into bed with the Beast, then scurry away when they get caught, just as long as you miss the newspaper articles about it afterward. Only if worldly reporters talk about it will it be something you will be concerned about. That's a good way to go through life. It works for ostriches.

  Seeker, quantum physics is in itself as creepy or creepier than the supernatural.

  Exactly! I'm convinced that one day we will re-assess many so-called supernatural events as quantum events.

  Now, one thing Sirona said is intersting: the way the brain works. I do believe there is much more to the brain than we currently understand, and some of what we now chalk up to ESP-like things will one day be explainable as quantum functions of the human mind.

  Well, I don't know what else I have to do to get evil spirit forces to show themselves. I mean, I have tried calling on the Devil, I openly challenged Jehovah to a fight, I immersed myself in demonology -- absolutely nothing happened. I moved on with my life.

  But since I'm providing an opinion different than the majority in this thread, I guess I'll rephrase my results to match: The demons exist, but find me boring. Or they exist, and are tormenting me, but are preventing me from being able to notice. Or the demons exist, but are scared of someone like me. Or the demons exist, but would rather keep me an agnostic, and therefore leave me alone. Or...you get the idea.

  Look, just read Sagan's The Demon-Haunted World and you'll never be scared of the dark again.
