I like her lyrics, and style. Jagged Little Pill was an eye-opener for me, and one that deepened my understanding of certain situations women go through.

A controversial prediction coming soon...
by Mindchild ini intend to make a post soon that will show a very unpopular viewpoint.
mostly because it will contain news you won't want to hear.. i'm predicting that regardless of the recent down turns in jw growth, this will change in the next few years and their world wide growth will increase.
i'm working on presenting the evidence now in a way it can easily be understood.. stay tuned.. skipper

I think you're right. I've been predicting the upturn since 1997, which was just as the downswing was beginning and only now taking shape.
These swings are easily predicted. Everything has played out the last four years exactly as I predicted, and it's just based on past cycles coupled with speculation on how JWs would react to the end of the twentieth century. Things like 9/11 are just hiccups to these cycles.

If the UN DID persecute the JWs..would you join in
by edward gentry inimagine this!
what a tempting thought.. the org, banned, witnesses hunted like rats thru the streets as they sneak around in their reverse coats and changeable hats carrying out the preaching work.
outside your house an incident, three neighbours are beating up on a witness, hitting him over the head with his own briefcase.. would you join in?

I would not bash a witness in the street.
I would not trod them underfeet,
Sam, I am...I would however leave them to their own fate, they created their own nightmare.
Nope. Their leaders created the problem, and the average witness bought it hook, line, and sinker. For that, I suppose they deserve a worse life, but not persecution. They don't "deserve" that much. -

The Watchtower organization should not be in existance in its current form. The dissemination of isolationist, antisocial, Totalitarian beliefs thru media should be outlawed.
No, I do not agree. Education is the way -- let people see what they teach is wrong so they are less likely to join. But outlawed? No thanks. I don't want the government telling me how to think.

seeker. "No religion should be banned LEAST of all JWs"!!!!
What is so holy about the borg that they should be the last church you should persecute?
That is what you are saying.Just semantic sloppiness on my part. You are right, I shouldn't have phrased it precisely that way, for that is not what I meant. I just grabbed a ready phrase and used it. (I never think my posts out, they just flow off my fingers and bang! I'm done -- explains a lot, huh?)
As for exterminating any religion, I'm dead set against the idea. Education, not legislation, is the answer. As soon as you decide to ban group A, it gets tempting to move on to groups B through Z while you are at it and pretty soon everybody wants their pet group banned.

"The Organization is Dying"

Yes, I know 1914 is the Big One, but I'll bet there are plenty of ordinary JWs who are very fuzzy on the subject and would believe any explanation fed them. Remember, the average JW gets weak in the knees at the very thought of trying to explain the 1914 chronology!
Wasn't it the Worldwide Church of God that basically told their followers, "We were wrong"? Yeah, they lost a ton of followers, but not all of them. People will hang onto whatever they want to hang onto.
I firmly believe the entire governing body could be caught on tape knocking off a bank before heading back to Bethel to have sex with each other, and there are plenty of JWs who would chalk it up to "imperfection,", "apostate lies," or the like.

How much longer can they stick to their claims related to 1914 without appearing silly? Can they survive the imminent Centenary of the Birth of the Kingdom in 2014, now a little more than 12 short years away, with their creidbility intact?
Of course. All they have to do is change their teachings, and soon all JWs will shake their heads at apostates who "claim we used to think 1914 was significant."
Ask a JW today about 1925 and see the blank stare you get.
When people want to believe in something, they will believe in it, all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding. P.T. Barnum had a saying about this phenomenon...

I am 100% opposed to any government telling any citizen what they can or cannot believe. No religion should be banned, least of all JWs. I would not only not support such persecution, I would actively work to subvert it.

We've already had a period like that in the late 70s. A couple of years of declines, negative growth in 70 or 80 countries, asterisks darkening the pages of the yearbook numbers. Did JWs give up then? No, they merely said:
a) This is a test
b) It's those '75ers who are leaving, good riddance
c) The end is near because the work is slowing downThen the 80s came along, growth returned, everything was back to normal. Same thing will happen in a few years. The Net will have its effect, then a group of folks immune to the Net effect will be attracted to the new and improved WTS, and growth will return.
Then, in about ten or twenty years, the growth will slow, and people will wonder if this is the end of the organization. And then a few years later the growth will return and...

Will they turn on religions soon?
by Seeker ini was talking with a jw a few days ago, and he said that current events (natch) convinced him more than ever that soon the nations will turn on religion, and the great tribulation will begin.
he said that the current hatred felt toward islamic extremists, plus columnists pointing out christian extremists (i.e.
abortion clinic bombers) are also dangerous, mean that soon the tide will turn and all religion will be viewed as bad.. i responded that although extremists are hated, i've been amazed at how carefully the governments have differentiated between extremists and muslims in general.

I responded that although extremists are hated, I've been amazed at how carefully the governments have differentiated between extremists and Muslims in general. That rather than turn against religion, they seem to be acknoweldging its value more so.
Now, I realize there are folks like our own Rex who want to criticize Islam in general. Is this a mainstream attitude? What have all of you heard about attitudes toward religion overall? Is my JW friend doing the usual 'sky is falling' routine, or are attitudes toward religion in general changing? What have you noticed in your neck of the woods?
Please note, I do not want to start a topic about whether or not JWs are correct in their beliefs, or whether the Great Tribulation is soon to come. Not interested in those arguments. I only want to know what you have noticed about people's attitude toward religion in general.
