Yesterday and today I had a couple of things happen to me that I think tie in well with why many people believe in the supernatural, or in their ability to foresee events.
Yesterday, I had to travel a few hundred miles to do an interview for a magazine article, and I knew stormy weather was coming here in Vermont. I had a bad feeling about the trip and the possible weather complications, so much so that I actually called my insurance company and checked on my coverage.
Long story short, the trip went perfectly, and I made it home just as the snow started.
My point? I think we constantly think ahead that there may be a problem with a trip or something similar. Now, 99 times out of 100, nothing happens. The ONE time there is an incident, we say, "I had a feeling something was going to happen!" as though we'd had a premonition of the problem. With selective memory, we forget the 99 times we were wrong and use as evidence of our awesome foresight the ONE time we were right!!
Then today, I was up early to shovel the driveway - I've got a long, steep driveway and a LOT of shoveling. There was close to a foot of snow, and when I got out there, the snow turned to sleet and rain. When I finished shoveling, I figured I'd back Lori's car out of the garage, turn it around, then back it back into the garage to make it easier for her to get out when she went to work at 2. I knew we'd have freezing rain all day.
Good intentions, BUT of course I had a hell of a time trying to get the car back up the ice covered drive. I was kind of in a bind, with Lori's car blocking the drive so I couldn't get my truck out and get to work. I sat there for a minute, thinking when I was a JW I'd be asking for divine help at that moment!
Then I slipped the car into reverse and suddenly backed all the way up the drive and into the garage with hardly a spin of the tires. If I was religious I'd have felt that god sent one of his angels and they just pushed me right back up that driveway! I'd have IMAGINED that that natural occurrence was actually a case of divine intervention on my behalf. "I'm god's chosen and I've got proof!!"
I think for people who believe in the supernatural, that kind of thinking dominates their days, and they see evidence of the supernatural in what are really just hundreds of natural events in everyone's life.

What's next for companies that make pink, yellow, & blue sugar substitutes?
by OnTheWayOut inwill the artificial sweetener companies have to close up shop?
will they get lawsuits?.
i know it is just one report, but it's a huge one..

A silly study and silly conclusions! This isn't huge - it's a study using 27 rats!! Come on.
The epidemic of obesity has little to do with artificial sweetners - not when you can easily get a +1000 calorie "lunch" at any fast food restaurant - and a couple of trips to the soda fountain will add several hundred sugar calories.
The last thing we should be worrying about is whether using a few artificial sweetners in our coffee or soda will make us want to eat more because we no longer associate sweetness with calories. Sorry folks, we're not rats - we can actually keep track of our calories or look at the portions on our plate or read the label that tells us that that supersized serving of french fries has more calories than we should eat in any two meals!
So far the real science has shown that artificial sweetners MAY have some side effects, IF we eat the equivalent of about 20,000 of those little packets everyday for a few months.

Elder asks me why we quit... (Long)

i didn't realize i had never posted the story, so here it is.. last summer (when i went to buy my new camera lens) i ran into one of my favorite jws at the photography shop.
he was buying a camera bag for his new dslr, and i saw him, went up and greeted him, hugged him.

My mother, my daughter, two granddaughters, my son-in-law and my ex-wife are all still in, which is six. That doesn't count nieces, nephews and ex-in-laws, which by marriage adds another half dozen.

My grandson...soooo proud of him!
by coffee_black ini don't think i posted this news before.. i've looked back through my threads and posts to make sure..didn't find it..sooooo...if i already posted this...sorry... just a proud grandma here.
my grandson will be honored at the whitehouse as one of the top 200 middle school students in the u.s.. he will spend a week in washington dc, have sessions with members of congress, attend workshops and tour a lot of the capital.
there will also be students from many other countries participating in this.

I'm feeling major depression

right now i'm not too motivated to do anything.
the only motivation i have is graduating and going to another school to further my profession.

Hey, you're doing the right thing by writing about this. Where are you going to school? I'm back East and headed to bed, as it's late here, but will check in with you in the morning.
Don't let the shit get you down. You're so young, and there is a great deal of wonderful life ahead of you. Some crap is coming down too, don't get me wrong, but so much great stuff is headed your way!! I'm 55, and trust me, you are in for some great stuff, so hang in there. Even at my age, in just the last few weeks, I've had some of the best traveling, musical, family, intellectual, athletic, personal relationship and sexual experiences of my life.
Christ, you've hardly cracked the surface!

that is crazy!
that means if there was nothing for all existence..then it has to remain that way..and even if some particles or energy exploded to give life to earth and the planets..it still does not make sense to believe that a explosion can design humans or animals...thats just like saying i am gonna get a another house out of a explosion!
