I find it interesting that, though I can sing and play guitar very well, and I was absolutely at home as a JW speaking at every CA and DC for 20 years as well as loving to give public talks, I'm VERY nervous about singing in public.
Strange what our fears are.

Living your lifes dream....Have you? Are you? Will you?......
by oompa ini subscribed to cruising world magazine for over 20 years.
many people or couples wrote their stories about either their life aboard a sailing yacht, or their time they put mainland life on hold for a year or more and lived their dream of cruising on an sailing yacht.
this became my dream, and i have sailed extensively since age 13. i also loved photography, and that goes real well with sailing exploration, and life aboard among the islands.. my first jw wife liked that dream too, my second jw wife does not!

I started a list recently in my journal of stuff I want to do in my remaining years. I've already begun checking some of them off.
Some I've done over the last six months or so:
• Get extremely fit and maintain that (I'm in an extreme daily fitness program - have dropped 20 pounds and am down close to single digit body fat percentage. In the best shape of my life at 56!)
• Learn to ride a motorcycle (Did that Monday)
• • Restore a vintage motorcycle (Will have a restored 1965 Honda Dream on the road in a week or two)
• Start skiing again (Went with my granddaughter in April)
• Spend focused time with friends and family (Doing this just about every day)
• Reconnect with a few old friends (Spent a week in Florida with a buddy from my teenage years, also a faded JW. Another former JW friend will be in the state visiting me in a few weeks.)
Of the 30 or so items left are:
• Perform live - singing and playing guitar
• Travel - Europe & Asia
• Do a serious backcountry pack trip every year
• Run a 5K race
• Play a team sport
• Learn to fly a kite-winged plane
• Learn to snowboard
There are several other things - and I add to the list when I see or think of something I'd really enjoy doing, and throw a date on those items that I've accomplished. I'm making plans for the 5K, have decided I'll probably visit one of the several local mics and play, and we're planning on doing the Long Trail end to end over a series of hikes over a few years.
Doing the list thing has made this one of the most interesting and enjoyable years of my life. I wish I'd done it sooner. It makes you think about what's important to you. Like one of the items is to get rid of clutter in my life - which will be a lifelong project, like the extreme level of fitness!
I have a few friends that have lived aboard for long periods of time - both sailboats and barges in Europe. From what they've told me, it's one of those things that sounds a lot more romantic than it is in practice. Living in VERY cramped quarters can wear very thin after a short while! That having been said, I've thought of the same thing myself. It's not on my life list, yet. I do have a friend who is one of the great deep water sailors, and we've talked about me crewing for him on one of his voyages. We'll see.

I've always had my suspicions about Boxcar Willie. I need to give David Icke a little more attention. He's obviously a deep thinker with some well thought out ideas.

Is the Watchtower finally changing for the better?
by Dead Man Joaquin ini'm having a hard time figuring things out here.
the last few years it's become increasingly cultish - i.e.
the public & kool-aid editions, the infamous november(?

I can't quite figure out what the meeting change is about - but I know it's a welcome one!
Considering that some of the younger Gb members have been giving the most hardline anti-college talks (ie: Gerritt Losch), I doubt if they'll soften on that view any time soon. Opening up college for JWs is a sure case of having more and mroe leave, and they are already dealing with a huge turnover rate.

My Story - Part 2
by Jeremy C inlike many jw children, i was deeply influenced and motivated by watchtower society artwork depicting the new system of things.
i was profoundly influenced by artwork (particularly in the book: you can live forever in paradise on earth) that portrayed children petting tigers, playing with lion cubs, running through grassy fields with kites, and enjoying care-free lives.
what i now realized about myself is that for a jw to desire such things; and to go through the motions - performing organizationally-programmed activity in order to receive this reward; does not necessarily require a love for god or christ that is any deeper than other religionists.

Nice job, Jer!
I agree with A@G, you had some great points about the indoctrination of the kid's literature that I hadn't really thought about.
Thanks for the post!

A Piece of News
by winnower inthere are some little heel nippers on this board who have mocked, scoffed, and twisted my words.
that is to be expected, i suppose.

Exactly! No real guy in the prophet business ever gets THAT specific! What is he thinking. I'm afraid Winnower will be a short-lived prophet.
It's why I loved his first post - he made such a definitive statement, and then repeated it here. I've got to hand it to him - he's got guts.

Hi, from your heel nipper friend Seeker4!
I'm fairly aware of current events - I'm a newspaper editor and I write a monthly feature for my state's main business magazine!
I agree that these are very difficult times, and economically it may be the worst period we've faced in my lifetime. What your references show is that we're facing a difficult time due to a variety of issues and events.
What you wrote, and repeated above, is different from that.
You agree that you wrote: "In my original post in mid- April, I said "a catalyst event" would occur in the month of May. This event would cause a great economic crisis and "ALL HANDS WILL DROP". I also said it would lead to wall street folding up shop and their briefcases would be empty."
Skyrocketing fuel prices are hardly a May event. So unless there is a singular "catalyst event" in the next week, and Wall Street closes down, you're just another false prophet.
I do not believe that God is communicating with you. It's that claim that turned me into a heel nipper. Your extraordinary claim of being God's prophet requires extraordinary proof and evidence, and time is running out for you Winnower. I for one will hold your feet to the fire. IF what you say proves to be absolutely true, I will also be the first to apologize to you, and I'll reconsider my non-belief in a higher power.
Have a great holiday weekend!

Has the song, "IMAGINE" become more than just a song?
by journey-on inthis song is my favorite all-time song.
though simple, when i hear it, it goes right to something deep in my core.. it has almost become scriptural.
that is a discussion in and of itself.

Need Info- Watchtower Lawsuit
by sammielee24 indoes anyone have any idea on the outcome of the upton case?
in 2006 i had last heard that she won her lawsuit for compensation but i have no doubt the society appealed that outcome.
has anyone got any idea where it sits?

Bethel exists essentially as a printing and shipping facility, with a handful of other departments that research and write the publications, decide on WTS policy, provide legal counsel for the WTS and oversee building projects.
Intense Bible study is NOT the focus of Bethel life. I think Bethelites are supposed to read the entire Bible in their first year. There are library facitilites available as in a Kingdom Hall, but I don't think the level of study is necessarily any different than that of the average Witness.

How Are You Affected By Your Witness Family Now That You're Out?
by minimus indo you have anything to do with your jw family or "friends" anymore???.
do they avoid you, now?

Well, ex-wife talks to me, but wrote yesterday that our split was probably the best thing due to my involvement with apostasy.
My JW daughter and son-in-law still talk with me. My daughter is probably more upset with me for leaving her mom than for leaving the Witnesses.
My JW mom will talk to me and seems to be OK.
A handful of JWs will say hi to me, others shun me. It's odd. A trip to the supermarket can be quite an emotional event for me.
Only JWs I spend time with are the faded and exs like myself!
