Thanks Illowy, I'll do that. But this has been going on for months.

why is it that on jw discussion boards, anyone who brings up difficult issues or questions will soon be banned from the site, while sites like this one where debate and discussion are encouraged, we welcome believing jws with open arms?.
of course, most of us here know the answer to that!
but it is something to take note of, and to mention when you get a chance.. there was a recent post about a jw group on facebook.
Min, I know they are not treated with kid gloves here, but I think that is definitely part of the scenario - JWs just get the crap knocked out of them in the give and take, rough and tumble of free and open debate. When I was a JW, I had so many friends come to me scared shitless when someone called them on the 1914 date and asked them to prove it.
Try to prove 1914 using the prophecies of Matthew 24 and Luke 21, and any thinking person knows that those "signs" could fit any period of time.
Use the WTS chronology to prove 1914, the "day for a year" reasoning and Daniel? Not one in a hundred Witnesses understands that well enough to explain it to a friendly audience - how many could have it make sense to a hostile one?
And I also agree that the WTS knows it will look foolish in any open debate, which is why the Organization hasn't publicly debated since Russel's time.

There was a recent post about a JW group on Facebook. Already there are people being warned about or banned from that group because they are asking hard questions that the JWs don't like.
Yet, we welcome JW apologists here. Why the difference?
Most of the JW apologists who have come on our sites end up leaving the Witnesses. WTS theology cannot be well defended. Those who question the WTS on JW sites are feared, because they are so capable of getting others to question and leave the Witnesses.
It would be exactly the opposite if the Witnesses truly had the truth. They would be impossible to successfully attack.

Got an e-amil from Illowy today, who says he STILL CANNOT post here. He was helping a MS with inventory and posting on the JW.org site that the congregations use. He added this:
"The Society is requesting inventories of everything in the literature counters at congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses and compiling a list of what is extra or overstocked and available at each congregation so that instead of getting some item from Bethel through an online order at JW.org, if the item is near in another congregation the brother is instructed to get it from the overstock there and not order it from Bethel. Sounds like a cost saving technique and maximizing for moving inventory that's idle."
I would assume there is a fair amount of overstocked literature! Hard to imagine this stuff rushing off the shelves.
And is it possible to get Illowy reinstated back on this site? I've been told by the mods that he has not been banned, yet he's unable to post. so, someone is not being straight about this. He's a former elder and still active JW, and also connected with the Spanish language boards. I think he's a valuable member of JWN and would like to see him back on here.

i got this verified today.
seven congregations that were in my old circuits now are only three.. north and south gardner, ma were merged.. north and south claremont, nh were merged.. north adams, ma and bennington, vt were merged.. the wilmington, vt congregation was dissolved.. there has been discussion to merge the keene and swanzey, nh congregations, but there are some strong personalities among the two bodies of elders opposing that, so it is not likely to happen, though i hear that keene has got some big problems in its boe and very poor service, etc.. that's 9 congregations within about a 70 mile radius that are all seeing some serious trouble.. anyone hearing anything similar happening where they are?.

I think any area with a substantial immigrant population will be seeing growth - but that is not so here in New England. It's interesting that this has been happening in NYC
Alpaca, I have no way of knowing the answer to those questions. Let me think about it.
Gayle, I'm not sure about the time frame, but I would assume it is over the last couple of years. I'll see what I can find out.

I got this verified today. Seven congregations that were in my old circuits now are only three.
North and South Gardner, MA were merged.
North and South Claremont, NH were merged.
North Adams, MA and Bennington, VT were merged.
The Wilmington, VT Congregation was dissolved.
There has been discussion to merge the Keene and Swanzey, NH congregations, but there are some strong personalities among the two Bodies of Elders opposing that, so it is not likely to happen, though I hear that Keene has got some big problems in its BOE and VERY poor service, etc.

i just heard this week that the wilmington, vt congregation is being dissolved.
it is here in southern vermont, and i can remember when it was formed, probably about 30 years ago.. the congregation was always troubled, it seems, and there were so many personality conflicts in it that people who lived next to the kingdom hall would travel to the brattleboro, vt congregation to attend meetings!
a good percentage of witnesses that lived in that territory refused to go there and attended other congregations.. it seems that attendance has dwindled down to 20 or so, and so it is being disbanded.
See my new thread on the other congregations that have been idssolved.

I'm trying to verify this, but it seems that in addition to this congregation being dissolved, several others in the area were combined, which may mean that where there were 7 different congregations nearby, there are now just 3!!
I'll get that out there when I get a verification.

i just heard that an elder friend, not a po, is attending some sort of training.
does anyone know what school is going on right now?.
i also just heard that there will be a circuit overseer school of some sort this year.
I would guess that the current stock market crisis must have had a huge impact on the WTS's investments.
Dartmouth College just announced that they've lost $1 billion, about a quarter of their endowment. I would assume the same is true of the
WTS.

a few weeks ago i sent an e-mail to an old friend.
he and i served for many years together as elders in the same congregation.
he is still a jw, but he stepped down as an elder many years ago, went back to college (he began studying when he was in college and quit college to pioneer!
I haven't kept in contact with him since I left the JWs, so it's not like I'm going to lose anything out of this. When I sent him an e-mail a month ago, I was friendly, asked a few questions about my grandson, complimented him on his career and said I still considered him a friend.
