Why Are Barb Anderson's Comments Missing from Silentlamb's NBC Transcript?
by Seeker4 ina few weeks ago i was checking out a few details on line about the nov. 12, 2007 nbc broadcast concerning the wts settlement on the west coast pedophile cases, and the release of the court documents on cd by barbara anderson.
i think it was lisa meyers who interviewed barbara, and brian williams was hosting.
well, i figured silentlambs had a transcript of the show, and i went there, only to find that they indeed had the transcript, but all of barbara's portion of the interview was oddly missing, and there was no link to the video.

Here's Bill's version of this transcript on Silentlambs. You'll see what I mean about the missing paragraphs when you compare the two.

Could someone activate that link for me? Thanks!

Yes, that's the NBC transcript. Thanks!
What I found disturbing is that Bill Bowen left out these three paragraphs that mention and quote Barbara Anderson when he reproduced the transcript on Silentlambs:
"Barbara Anderson, a former church member and a vocal critic of the organization on this issue, contends that Jehovah’s Witnesses policies “protect pedophiles rather than protect the children.” Anderson recently compiled documents from the lawsuits on a CD titled “Secrets of Pedophilia in an American Religion.”
Anderson says she first focused on the controversy in the early 1990s when she worked at the Watchtower Society headquarters in Brooklyn and was assigned to deal with letters from church members complaining of abuse. While conducting that research, she says she discovered that in its internal proceedings against accused molesters, the church applies a biblically based “two-witness” rule. “They require another witness to the actual molestation,” Anderson says, “which is an impossibility.”
Anderson also claims that she discovered the church headquarters kept track of sexual abuse cases in confidential files."
It was presented on Silentlambs as THE transcript, when it was only a part of it, and that should have been made clear. I'm afraid that it looks like Bill let his personal animosity toward Barbara get in the way of ethical journalism. Maybe he can give us a reasonable explanation? If not, people at least need to be aware of what Bill did.

My wife and I were young Reg. Pioneers then. She was pregnant and we had our daughter in 1974. If you can imagine, one particularly clueless sister actually told my wife how sorry she was that my wife was pregnant because of the "Woe to the pregnant woman in that day" scripture!! I was sooooo pissed, and let them know it. This woman was the sort who would mindlessly parrot all sorts of JW tripe.
Yeah, my wife and I actually Pioneered through the birth of our first child. We were the zealous type, you might say!
Oh, by the way, that baby that was going to be such a burden through the imminent Great Tribulation is now nearly 34 and has two kids herself!!

Noah's ark - Can't believe I once actually thought it was true
by sam_sane_now inwhen i was a jw i didn't even question that the noah's ark story might not be true.
i didn't realise that it wasn't achievable for a handful of people to gather literally millions of animals - two of each kind - and fit them into a boat where they would all survive for many days.
i didn't think about the fact that if the highest mountain was covered with water then how could plant life like trees and flowers come to exist again, especially so soon after, with the raven grabbing an olive leaf was it?

Liberty - right on!
The Flood story is so flawed, and I know it bothers a lot of still active JWs because they've talked with me about it.
There is a website I was reading last week where, over a period of years, one brother wrote to the WTS laying out, very clearly and respectfully, the insurmountable mountain of evidence proving that the Flood could never have happened.
In one of their answers, they actually used as "proof" of their position comments from a "scientific" book written in the 1700s!! All of the letters are posted there.
Some brothers there must know how pathetic that is!

I know there was an issue between Barb and Bill Bowen, the founder of Silentlambs, about the timing in releasing info on those court cases, and it seems on the site like Bill is taking a lot of credit for inspiring the NBC broadcast.
He also mentions that it was because of the actions of Silentlambs that "certain individuals," as he puts it, evidently referring to Barb and those that helped her, got access to the 5,000 pages of court documents.
It's not a huge thing, but it does seem a little disingenuous on the part of Silentlambs, and leaving Barbara's comments out of the NBC transcript smacks of the WTS's tactic of partial quoting or quoting out of context. Bill may be at odds with Barbara over a few things, but leaving out those paragraphs while presenting what purports to be a full transcript of the show is journalistically unethical.
Maybe someone could post the active links to Silentlambs and the Nov. 12 NBC broadcast for me - my computer at work won't do that, and others could check to see if I've got this right. Maybe I missed something, but I looked pretty carefully.
Thanks.
