Passing the time at JW Assemblies
by Leolaia inlove_truth, in describing the utter dullness of jw assemblies and conventions, just gave me an interesting idea for a thread.
what were some of the ways you tried to make the hours pass?
some of mine: looking at the interesting refracting patterns the arena floodlights made on my eyeglasses when looking thru them at an angle.looking for people i knew from my congregation and others in the mass of people in the arena.counting the number of people leaving the section to go to the bathroompractice writing people's names in elvish scripthaving a conversation with friends a row behind me by passing notes back and forthseeing how many pages of my bible stick together when i slam a wad of gum in between its pages.. what else?

I know what you mean about passing time in between sessions. It really was never enough time to explore the locality where we were, and we were never allowed to take naps, or bring a novel or something other than JW literature to read. It was soooooooo boring, that I learned just to volunteer my time behind the scenes. It helped make everything go so much faster, on those very long, and usually very hot days.

Osama's Physician is Surrounded
by Sentinel inthe big news on tv right now--and it's dark on that side of the world-- is that the afghans have corraled the #2 man right next to osama.
this is a very intelligent egyptian physician who travels with him all the time.
it is not known whether osama is with him or not right at the moment.

It certainly would be nice to have some proof of that for sure. Maybe #2 is carrying his remains around wherever he goes.

Oh, and are you referring to "THE flood", "A" flood, "Another flood"? Apparently someone built a big boat, possibly the first cruiseliner. Did the entire earth become covered and only a handful of "blessed" people survive? Perhaps in a very small area of civilization it might be somewhat conceivable; but I seriously doubt it. I'm certain there were/are areas of the world continue to flood since the appearance of man, and geology has proven this through soil samples, etc.
The thing is, even if the earth was at one time completely covered with water, it was not a time when human beings were even being considered as inhabitants. Perhaps at some point in time, the earth was populated by very large creatures, and the polar ice-caps melted and they were destroyed. The earth has gone through so many cataclysmic changes. We were not always here when those things occured, although perhaps the first couple of "humanoids" were here a bit at the tale end of the "dinasaur age".
Humans with souls "in the image of the creators" came along very late in the creation process. There are cycles to everything created. The earth was born, and changed many times. We came along and the earth is still changing, but time moves differently for us, and we can't always "see" it. The earth will also die at some point. The divine beings know this, but our minds cannot comprehend such things.

Last year, as I was walking up the side of the courthouse returning to my office from lunch, I saw this woman with a "bag" begin to walk towards me. My instincts called it right; she was a Jdub. I refused the literature and that was that.
Of course, she should not have been outside a courthouse "doing her thing", so I went in and spoke to the deputies and they asked her to move away from the courthouse if she wanted to "evangelize".
I know she thought she was doing the right thing, but I didn't want to have to look out my window and watch her. Once you let them "in", you know how the word gets out. They would have someone posted at the front and back entrance, and people just don't "want religion" after they've been in court. It's just not the place for it.
Besides, with terrorist activities, how easy would it be for "someone" to pretend to be a JW, and have a bomb or a gun in their bag? This is why the deputies would not allow her to "station herself there". No one is allowed to loiter around the courthouse buildings.

Yes/No - Will the good news ever be preached through out the earth?
by eyeslice inno - not by jehovah's witnesses.
there seems to be no clear line from the society on how much preaching needs to be done before the "end".
the "stones would cry out" principle is sometimes aluded to but i was/am a little vague on the official line.

Do you still have a nice handwriting?
by JH inmore than ever, we use our computers and printers to write whatever we need to write.
it's neat and we can edit our mistakes without anybody noticing.
but on the other hand, we practise less and less our handwriting.

Despite using the computer, I still do lots of writing. I also keep up communications with friends and family through "snail mail". Sometimes though, my grocery lists end up in shorthand, which hubby can't read. I took two years of it in school, and still use it when I'm in a hurry to put something down.
Everyone says that I have a beautiful "hand". I suppose I will credit my grade school teachers and my mother for helping me to learn that one must write so that the other person can read and understand it.
.....unlike doctors and lawyers today, who's signatures look like "silly string" on paper.
