Having children is bad
by dissonance_resolved inwent to the weeknight meeting this week for the first time in a long while.
the study was all about how having children was ill-advised in this time of the end- the comments dwelled on what a burden children are, how you can spend more time in the ministry without children, and look what they did in jerusalem- they cannabilized their own children!
it's going to be so horrible to watch our children suffer during the great tribulation!

The meeting this week? TOTALLY BENEFITTED ME!
My friend is now aware of the remain childless and don't even bother marrying and said he was absolutely SICKENED by the meeting!
WTS? The more you write, the easier my conversations with him becomes... PLEASE keep exposing yourself!!!!!
And why, WTS, with all the love in your congregations, are there separate JWs who are referring to me, a worldy, as their ONLY true friend????
As their "only true friend", I have a whole lot of influence and I've done a WHOLE lot of talking to them. Please... keep increasing my credibility.

My experience today
by leaving_quietly indiscussion with wife today led to her questioning whether i believe or not.
i told her that i just can't roll over and accept everything new thing they say just like that.
we were, of course, talking about the "new light".

For whatever it's worth, Justus Lipsius' De Cruci Libri noted in the Watchtower literature is on Google Books for FREE. Some versions have more pictures than others.
It's written in Latin - still and yet, if I see a picture of a dude on a CROSS with his head glowing and INRI on a plaque above his head, I don't have to be an expert in Latin translation to figure out who it's depicting. *sigh*
I so hope you get through to her.

i think i found a church
by unstopableravens ini really enjoyed church today, i have been visting serevel in the last few weeks, all the ones i have been to have been okay, but no more, but today i felt comfortable with everything i seen.
it seemed very doctrinally sound, christ centered and the big bonus i did not hear a word about money!
they did not pass a plate(i dont know if they do but today there was none).

Unstop and Lisa, good for you...
If the focus of the church is on worshipping the Lord you've decided to believe in and not on how to creatively sell the religion to others*, you're probably in a better place than you used to be and hopefully you'll realize the relationships you form will NOT be conditional. If you leave for six months and then return you'll still be accepted.
I'm excited for you!
*I swear inserting the sales gig into a worship service still makes my skin crawl.

RC Church - Originated when ? Spiritually Strong Ones please.
by *lost* inbeen doing a bit of research trying to tie in together a few different strands.. not too sure what happened to christianity and how organised religion took hold again after the apostles died off.. i know jerusalem was sacked 70 ce.
but lots to fill in from that point onwards to bring us to where we are today.. if a few peeps could help to condense and simplify the info down into a few bite size pieces it would give us a starting point to begin to re-educate ourselves to the truth.
and fill in the blanks.

Oh yeah.... see what you can learn about the apocrypha too. RC church may have notes on the Council of Nicea.
Where did Russell get HIS early century info from??
Don't mean to be condescending, but I'd have to put my trust dibs on the Catholic church on historical data.... not some dude walking along the Allegheny River making crap up.
sorry about typos. on phone... very hard to edit.

Back on topic.
Lost, to get an idea of how old the RC church is, look at their lineage of popes. I think many would be surprised.
My JW boyfriend looked like he was having a panic attack when I showed him. I led into with, "isn't it cool that there have already been at least 3 popes from Africa already?"
I had never gotten dumped off at home so fast in my life fastest trip home.

My latest university experience...
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inthis isn't a jw experience, but for those of you that have been following my life, i thought i'd have a drink and share this strange event in my post-jw life.. for you wonderful newbies, you can catch up on highlights of my story in the few threads i've started here.
i'm finishing the junior year of my engineering degree and the classes are hard as hell.
i used to be among the smartest students in the room until i hit the 300 level university courses.

Billy...
Doesn't it feel good to submit an answer that may have been a little off but rewarded for everything you've done right? *giggling*
Personal story:
After a nearly perfect SAT math score, I started off my college career in Engineering and realized I was more interested in the behaviors of my classmates than the coursework.
One day I read Albert Einstein's quote,
"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid."
I ended up switching schools and leaving a better school with a 3.97 GPA. Integrated my technical interest with my people interest and received a BS in IT with an emphasis on Business.
CONGRATULATIONS! It looks like you got off land and found your ocean! I am soooo proud of you. :)

Dear Mother -- Is that a lie or a mistake?
by FatFreek 2005 ini believe that jehovah's witnesses are mostly honest people.
it's unfortunate for the honest ones -- especially embarrasing -- if they're ambushed by some person in their door to door work with evidence that their leadership throughout modern history has knowingly said things that are not true.
the following essay attempts to document one such trail of watchtower dishonesty.

A personal message to you lurking Jehovah's Witnesses out there
by Terry inwhile you were sitting in that uncomfortable folding chair the other night.... listening to something you've heard already a thousand times before.... do you know what was happening at the same time?.
somebody somewhere else was studying a real textbook.
somebody was cramming for a college exam.

Do other churches use the name Jehovah?
by barry ini have seen on this site recordings of jw elders at tribunal meetings claim other churches hate the name jehovah.
one former baptist now jw elder said other churches hate the name and never use it.
please look at the following and there are many more hymns not included than these.

Honeybucket: Congratulations for being so brave. :)
If you were to ask around, I'd have to guess you would be hard pressed to find a traditional Christian who would express an aversion to the use of the name "Jehovah". I had no clue that the JWs were teaching a mandatory use of this name and my knowledge about JWs probably fell well within norms. I just thought they leverage the name Jehovah cause they were? Jehovah's witnesses! Boy was I a moron.
