Welcome Stauros!
Many will welcome your perspective. The broader the better!
hi, just wanted to say hello.. i have my beliefs, my views, my opinions.
i hope people respect them, and do not hate me for my beliefs.
we all have the right to believe in what we choose.
Welcome Stauros!

it seems kind of crazy to go to someone's house touting your religion as truth and then not even defend your own beliefs.
why do jws stop the chat if someone just tries to calmly reason/debate with them?
i'm not talking about crazy preachers who start slamming bibles and yelling about how they need jesus or something.
GRRRRRR....
(hee-hee)

AWatcher says:
We're not there to debate with householders.
We're searching for Jehovah's lost sheep.
If you don't want to serve Jehovah with us, then you're not who we're looking for.
Not taking a "no" personally.... that's a sales techinique on how to shake off rejection.
I am a non-jw. You know what your last sentence says to me? It says, "If I have to support my claim of having the truth to you, I can't, so I am going to tell myself that YOU are the problem and go to the next house." Doesn't that attitude contradict the notions presented in the first 2 pages of chapter one "What Does the Bible really Teach? - I have three of them that have been provided to me if you need one.
Sweetheart, if the WT were really serious about the salvation of others, you would be provided with real tools to explain your stance and honest information about other's stances - from Judaism, through Christianity, side-swiping Islam, getting a review of Buddhism and a real clue about Atheists so that you could sincerely overcome objections help them understand the truth, with respect to each perspective. They haven't. Ask yourself why you have to walk around half-informed? Why don't they promote the understanding of these other perspectives as the scriptures suggest?
Proverbs 18:17 "The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him." and Proverbs 18:2 "A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his own opinion." Maybe take a look at 2 Cor 14 too.
Sadly, it doesn't appear that any of you are coming to my door with your opinion nor are you coming with your understanding. You come to my door with someone ELSE'S opinion that you don't understand and aren't equipped to substantiate.
HERE'S THE TRUTH
Your machine's goal is to get you to find the most vulnerable of society who will put money in the contribution box. That's what you do for a spiritual living. Nothing more. You are a part of a sales organization. You are taught how to overcome objections at your meetings and you then pay (I mean, donate) for the materials to get more people to do the same. That's how MLM sales work. The jacked part of it is, you get no commission and the WT gets to realize a fresh residual income stream. Too bad for you.
James 3:1 Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers....
Grrr.... today, I'm having an emotionally tough day. I need to go and tame my tongue. I know why I can't be a teacher... *sigh*
Guess I'll be taking another long walk.
does anybody have any tips on keeping hard-wood floors clean?
seems like 10 minutes after i clean them they are a mess again.
at least with carpet it was harder to notice all the little doodads that wind up on the floor.
Dry Swiffer... love mine. I get the cloths from Sams or Costco.

She just left an Amy Winehouse look-a-like contest.
i decided to call my mother more often at the request of my brother (the parental units have been driving him crazy and my calling more hopefully will decrease the craziness my brother has had to deal with).
so i called her last tuesday and the first thing that pops out of her mouth is she recovering from a weekend of babysitting her "substitute grandchildren" (her exact words and actually my nonjw cousin's children) since she doesn't get to see her own grandchildren.. wonderful .
there are reasons why i don't take my children to my mother's house.
It sounds like all the judgement made it such that your parents have missed the lives of their grandchildren.
doesn't make any sense.

I'm a little late coming to this conversation - didn't notice it but I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
Lets not get things twisted here. The NWT wasn't translated leveraging anything of ancient origin. Even if the adherents are given that fakeout story of the translation committee choosing to remain unnamed, the writers of the NWT told the rest of the world not only who translated but what they knew of ancient languages during the Scotland trial. That book they wrote is just a remix of a Bible written in English with a little bias strewn about.
Now on to my opinion:
I'll grant you that in thousands of years there HAVE been opinions introduced into that which some of us now accept as our guide. Oh well... Suck it up. There were many re-writes and sincere attempts have been made to reconcile discrepancies and sometimes decisions had to be made that may have discredited other manuscripts. Oh well... suck that up too. Guess what?... Same goes for the inclusion of the books. Read 'em. Food for thought darn it.
As a believer, I'll also make the appalling statement that with that knowledge, anyone who believes that one must accept ONLY the literal interpretation of every story in the Bible isn't using sound judgement. Yep, I said it. Suck it up.
Can I tell you which version is most accurate? Absolutely not. No man today has enough information to make that determination. It is said that the devil is in the details anyways... :) Read as many translations as you can get your hands on and remain neutral realizing that there may still be a piece that is unknown to you. Here, I will honestly admit that until I looked into the background of the NWT, in ignorance, I may have included it in my verse comparisons but now I won't even call it a Bible.
We are told that early Christians had a heavenly hope. They didn't even have a compiled New Testament for crying out loud so I have to ask, did the detail matter? I suspect not.
Have you ever thought how this famous statement of Jesus: “NO MAN HAS ASCENDED UP TO HEAVEN BUT HE THAT CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN, EVEN THE SON OF MAN WHICH IS IN HEAVEN”? (John 3:13)
Not all versions read that way. As an fyi, the WTS KI seems to leave off the "in heaven" part.
HarryMac: Love your chart. :)
so, mum called this this afternoon and asked if i had heard of the london terror attacks, i replied that i know of it.. then she asked, don't you recognise him?".
so i answered, "no".. mum: don't you recognise tobi?.
mum: tobi, aunty juliet's son.
wow.... just wow.
and will they copy catholics by banning all child molesters from serving in kingdom halls?.
a spokesman for dolan (cardinal timothy dolan, head of the u.s. conference of catholic bishops ) said in an e-mail that the archdiocese of new york has had a policy for years that encourages those with allegations of abuse to report them to civil authorities, and that here are no known abusers serving in the dioceses.

I completely agree with Vidiot on this one.
