  Christmas Field Service

  on another thread, i read that a few adherents may be traveling (cough-cough) to other cities and wouldn't be able to make field service on christmas day.. what is the likelihood that going out on christmas will be encouraged at the weekend services at the khs?

  ...or do most halls stay neutral on this?

  given what i've read on this forum, i have the impression that disrespecting a day of other's celebration wouldn't be discouraged which annoys the heck out of me..

  I need to know if you were bullied from the platform about going the weekend before.

  I'm thinking about going to the Hall with my JW friends. My friends seem to become more cognizant of the nastiness that the elders spew during the presentations when I'm sitting there. I can feel their discomfort as insults are hurled my way. Knowing TTATT, the vile hatred bounces off of me. I actually feel sorry for the adherents. It can't be easy walking around with so much contempt and fear.

  Just wondering what the chances are that I'll hear/not hear them speak of Christmas Day Field Service. 50/50?

  Humbled,

  Finding oneself in a church where you no longer believe, say, what others believe about the bible will get you in trouble or else ..silent in the church.

  I've got 45+ years of church experience. None every imposed their creed on me and with a Judaic background, I think I would have noticed. :) I never "got in trouble" for my non-traditional thinking for my thinking was based on my experiences.

  I give credit to my Catholic school educators for teaching me how and therefore giving me permission to think critically about the Bible.

  henry 51bs 12 oz,eve 51bs 14 oz...phil my grnason by marriage just called.. ashley the new mum) my granddaughter who herself was a twin,from my melanie who died when she was 42(cancer).

  Naughtiness in my bathroom

  i have some guests coming over to spend xmas with me for a couple of days.

  they are my friends family and i have a larger place than them and am playing host.. dilemma.

  they are christians and i have some postcards in my bathroom that are slightly naughty.

  Me? If I came over to stay with my children and saw things like this publicly displayed, I can't say I'd trust your judgement afterwards.

  ...and as for the kids, I've got a teenager. If you were her age, you'd come off as cool. If you're over 25, you'd come off as a perv.

  Personal rules I live by when talking to Christians

  as a former witnesses, i have spoken to tons and tons of christians since my exit.

  some want to convert me to their faith, heal me of what they see as false information in my youth and so on.

  when ever i speak to them, not being a christian now, i have certain things that guide me.

  Botr, I'm imagining you were in Central PA. Not much to talk about in certain areas out there. While I attend different churches according to my moods, I was raised and confirmed in the Episcopal faith. Welcome!

  I agree with Lisa on this... it's enough to agree that there's a higher power and to celebrate an agreement on that. The rest is opinion.

  Christmas presents

  i like a lot about christmas, lights, music, smells, food.

  i like the idea of lots of presents, too, but i totally don't like the idea enforced by advertising that all of us must spend loads of money buying gifts for everyone we know.

  and i think that gifts for adults should be consumable, a bottle of wine, candy, that sort of thing, a token of friendship, a little treat, but nothing grand.. so, i've made about four dozen jars of jam from wild grapes i picked in the fall, and i'm going to make lots of cranberry bread and pumpkin bread.

  It's a good feeling to be basically done.

  Must we brag? I haven't started! I told my daughter to buy her own boots and that I'd reimburse her, I haven't been near a toy store for my niece, and ...I mean... how hard could it be to find a sweatshirt and some slippers? *sigh*

  Wait... wouldn't you have spoken to more non-JW Christians who wanted to convert and/or heal you from the perceived falsehoods taught to you as a youth before your exit? Since you had to knock on doors?... This has only been happening after you've left?

  Has this happened to anybody else on this forum...
