  Book of Enoch fills in many gaps in the bible and it's older than Revelation....

  this book is very interesting.

  it's supposedly written about 300bc, whereas revelation is around 70ce.

  in the bible, the book of daniel, it speaks of "the watchers".

  Ah... the deuterocanonicals of the Old Testament. The Roman Catholic Church still includes the deuterocanonicals in their New American Bible. I just visited a RCC a couple of months ago. The second reading was from the book of Tobit so they are actively included. Sirach is also included in the NAB.

  And yes, the deuterocanonicals lend towards a better understanding of the New Testament and I'd know more off of the top of my head if I would have been more attentive in high school. *sigh*

  There are several New Testament Books that were almost chopped for various reasons. James with his works-based salvation and Revelation were two of them. Seems like one or more of the others may have had "too" many references to the Old Testament deuterocanonicals - not sure what kind of metrics were used for "too" but moot point now since, to my knowledge, nothing was removed.

  I'm Really Disappointed

  having been out 5 yrs.

  & attending numerous christmas parties & family get togethers, i can't tell you how disappointed i am.

  i was led to believe wild debauchery, drinking & fighting was the norm.

  I sincerely apologize for our failure to live up to the WTBTS's statements but there's hope. I bought TWO bottles of Roscato wine for Christmas dinner and there's only 5 of us that will be here.

  Maybe we'll do some debauchery after that!

  Went to church for the first time in a long long time.

  well its been since i was around 5 years young that i last went to church.

  so today i went to a church of a friend and it was very nice.

  they sang some songs with a band, good songs unlike jw's.

  It's really good to hear that you left feeling great! I'm denominationally unaffiliated and absolutely love my freedom. My contribution to a church is ALWAYS proportionate to the level of care a church shows towards the community. As a non-member, I suspect some of the churches I've attended got huge surprises some weekends.

  You know what's nice about going to the KH? I walk in with an Ipad and a cell phone for the hotspot. Knowing I won't need it, I leave my purse at home.

  Christmas Field Service

  on another thread, i read that a few adherents may be traveling (cough-cough) to other cities and wouldn't be able to make field service on christmas day.. what is the likelihood that going out on christmas will be encouraged at the weekend services at the khs?

  ...or do most halls stay neutral on this?

  given what i've read on this forum, i have the impression that disrespecting a day of other's celebration wouldn't be discouraged which annoys the heck out of me..

  I have to admit, I believe that everyone in the congregation knows I'm a "visitor" despite my going quite a few times. I'm also not shy when it comes to expressing my disdain for speaking disrespectfully about other denominations to any within hearing range. I wondered if they'd speak of an intentional disrespect given my statements to various members.

  Christmas wasn't mentioned once.

  Update:

  Nothing was said about Christmas Field Service.

  I did note the letter that was read out loud. You can't be handicapped or in a wheelchair so in other words medically able, over a certain age, baptised and superior to other baptized, financially capable and possibly your kids have to be over a certain age to get an invitation to go to some get-together (Hawaii, maybe?).

  Criteria like that would be considered politically incorrect in my world. WTH

  I need to know if you were bullied from the platform about going the weekend before.

  I'm thinking about going to the Hall with my JW friends. My friends seem to become more cognizant of the nastiness that the elders spew during the presentations when I'm sitting there. I can feel their discomfort as insults are hurled my way. Knowing TTATT, the vile hatred bounces off of me. I actually feel sorry for the adherents. It can't be easy walking around with so much contempt and fear.

  Just wondering what the chances are that I'll hear/not hear them speak of Christmas Day Field Service. 50/50?

  Humbled,

  Finding oneself in a church where you no longer believe, say, what others believe about the bible will get you in trouble or else ..silent in the church.

  I've got 45+ years of church experience. None every imposed their creed on me and with a Judaic background, I think I would have noticed. :) I never "got in trouble" for my non-traditional thinking for my thinking was based on my experiences.

  I give credit to my Catholic school educators for teaching me how and therefore giving me permission to think critically about the Bible.

  Naughtiness in my bathroom

  i have some guests coming over to spend xmas with me for a couple of days.

  they are my friends family and i have a larger place than them and am playing host.. dilemma.

  they are christians and i have some postcards in my bathroom that are slightly naughty.

  Me? If I came over to stay with my children and saw things like this publicly displayed, I can't say I'd trust your judgement afterwards.

  ...and as for the kids, I've got a teenager. If you were her age, you'd come off as cool. If you're over 25, you'd come off as a perv.
