  so, it has been agreed that i will be reading the bible with my jw friends.

  straight bible no wt.. we tried to start with matthew and move through the new testament.

  i insisted on using the esvs i purchased from amazon for $.49 a piece so we could write in them.

  You guys are great! I've already had the "a god, what kind of God, true or false God" conversation. I'm not so sure it was realized that the response didn't make sense. I think it was... "He's like a god - but not."

  I worry about some unknown alternate configuration of the verses in John...Hopefully, the Society hasn't wiped his brain clean with alternate interpretations.

  End: I think that's that little purple book his grandmother has... AND I think it's NT only. Cool

  WT: Reading WT literature would make me think they worship the gloom and doom of Satan more than God.

  TheVoice, Phizzy, Knows, Can'tleave, Mr. Freeze: I want to stay in the New Testament so we can stay in the ESV's I bought for now. Worried that I'll lose my argument for their usage vs. the NWT if I go bigger.

  I had my money on John (to see Christ's significance) and Romans but I read on another thread that someone else's push came from reading the book of Galations so I figured I better ask.

  So, it has been agreed that I will be reading the Bible with my JW friends. Straight Bible no WT.

  We tried to start with Matthew and move through the New Testament. I insisted on using the ESVs I purchased from Amazon for $.49 a piece so we could write in them.

  Well, that didn't go well.

  I had too much of an urge to stab him in the eyeballs for corrupting the passages with WT logic. Instead of bodily harm, I took the psychological attack approach with something to the effect of... "are ya kidding me???? You're kidding me right? Please say yes... nevermind... don't lie - you're an idiot." I think communication broke down after that. *ahem* Gosh, I love this guy... have I told you he's an absolute sweetheart? *sigh*

  So, I'm going to take a valium for this next attempt. I think we're going to agree to READ only. NO COMMENTARIES! We're supposed to start in a couple of weeks and will continue to use the ESVs. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to call the shots on the book in which we start.

  You guys tell me. Which book am I starting with?

  Baptismal Questions CHANGE AGAIN!

  i attended recently a circuit assembly and notice a change in the wording of the 2nd baptismal question .it used to be :.

  "do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of jehovah's witnesses in association with god's spirit-directed organization?

  now they changed it to :.

  So, the dumb worldly will present as follows...

  "Help me understand. In churches, we just use the easy baptism that's in the Bible, 'I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit' and that's the way it's always been. I understand that your organization has changed the baptism as many as 4 times or more over the last century and most recently within maybe the last month or two. When that happens, do you all have to be re-baptized?"

  so i finally took a deep breath and watched the annual meeting report.

  i found a little nugget before the "new light" discussion began.

  there was a report about the "public preaching" that was taking place in manhattan.

  Ethos, I was born, raised and still claim a "worldly" status. I have always had the freedom to go to whatever church I chose. My family believed we could learn from all faiths.

  There's not a church I've been to that wouldn't gladly offer a free bible. They're in the darn pews at my home church!

  This the second thread I've read where you've claimed knowledge with respect to churches that was completely wrong. The other one had something to do with dealing with mental illness, suicide and depression. I would welcome your comments AFTER putting "church suicide prevention" in your favorite search engine and doing some reading. Better yet, walk into let's see.... how about a Roman Catholic church and tell the priest you're thinking about committing suicide. I KNOW that you'd be shocked at the results.

  You're showing yourself to be a liar to those who know about churches. Your knowledge with respect to JW doctrine might be a little faulty if I absorb all that everyone is saying. You can fake the JW stuff and it would blow by me, but don't lie about any alleged knowledge of churches - not only will you lose credibility, but I wll call you out. ChristAlone already has... and he has more patience.

  Free Home Bible Studies, huh....

  I went to my uncle's old folks HOME for a few hours two weeks ago. Everyone there is incapacitated in some way. There were two different church groups in two different meeting rooms who were taking time out of their lives to come to the home, sing and do services for those who were probably lonely and could use some cheering up. All of the participants had Bibles in their hands.

  Why haven't I seen the JWs yet?

  i've had it a couple of times in the hospital.

  it's amazing stuff, one second you're awake, the next second you're asleep.

  they turn it off, and you immediately wake up.

  I've got a very stressful but wonderful job. Occasionally, I find that I can't get my brain to shut off. My prescription sleep aid of choice? LUNESTA.

  Ambien was horrible for me. Slept four hours and then stared at the ceiling for the next four.

  Benadryl - drunken stupor the next morning.

  1/2 of a 3 mg Lunesta? out within 15-20 minutes for the night.

  Melotonin is a natural sleep aid I've used. I just don't know if it worked or if I just needed the placebo.
