Jehovahs witnesses, in the divine purpose?
by sleepy innotice my watchtower style title?.
i've just been rereading the book " jehovahs witnesses in the divine purpose " from 1959.. its an ealier book recounting the history of the organisation.. i don't belive many jw's will have seen or read it, besides they have a new "history" book to read .. being more familiar with the history of the witnesses has made me realise how biased and misleading this book truely is.. here are some quotes from chapter 14 "reorganizing for active service service".. those who know about jw history will notice the slants and misleading statments straight away , but i'll try to explian some of them for anyone new.. in preparing the reader for explaining the changes rutherford made to the religion after russell's death it tells us;.
"when the society began to be freed for further preaching work following ww1 they realized they had been held in spiritual bondage too in many ways.

Thank you both for posting this information. I had no idea that they were so way off base. Sounds to me like they have this compulsion to unravel the mysteries and signs to justify their need to control the members. Or am I off base here?
If they just stuck to the basics, I might have stayed. I have an elderly aunt that left the org after Russel died. She claimed it was still a loving org when they celebrated with family, but that when they started the extreme separating she felt they were being to controling which = unloving. I always wondered what she ment by that. Now I know. Thank you again and please post more or email me on more of what it was like when they first started out. Maybe another religion will come up calling themselves Russelites or something. I like having the freedom of love and fellowship with our loved ones. I'll never go back to being one of Jehovah's witness. -

The Word

Very good analogy. I think this is the whole idea with the bible too. That is why he put alot of things as symbols and pictures to test how we would use that information. Something was brought up to me as doing loose conduct because of my smoking. (just to clarify, I started after I left the org not during. I know their rules.) I stated that when JWs started out there were alot of them smoking. Ask most people to define loose conduct and they will say fornication. Back when the bible was wrote, maybe they had other terms for it. WE don't know, but I took those two words, the way it was written, to be put as how the individual reading them would interpret them and not smoking.

What is the true Religion?
by deadlyskilz init seems to me this site is full of anti jehovah's witness members.its easy to point out weaknesses of others or the organization they represent.jehovah's witnesses do often with other religions.if you all have decided that jehovah's witnesses are bad people or that the organization is false, then which one is the true religion?which religion teaches the correct doctrines?which religion represents gods truth?this question is for anyone.i'm asking this question with sincerity.

Are you looking for a true religion or are you looking for a reason to justify you aren't in religion?

part 2 of "What church should I go to now?...
by serenaj92 infrom all replies and my own understanding this is what conclusion i came up with.
in the history of the bible, the first part of the bible makes up stories to describe to all how god thinks, feels, and how he runs his people.
everytime they have formed a religious group, even taking them far away from all other religions (wilderness), they have failed from human error.

From all replies and my own understanding this is what conclusion I came up with. In the history of the bible, the first part of the bible makes up stories to describe to all how God thinks, feels, and how he runs his people. Everytime they have formed a religious group, even taking them far away from all other religions (wilderness), they have failed from human error. And these people talked to God directly. Later when Jesus tried as a man, obviously showing us why God gave up on us, God handed it over to someone else who wanted to try. He recognized that no body of people could come to the complete understanding and said God's people will be taken out of all nations, tribes and tongues, a big hint that there won't be a certain group, but that his people would be scattered. John or any of the other apostles is noted as writing to congregations, not a religious group or people. Like he didn't say, I'm writing to the Jew's, or Lutherans, but the congregation of...
History has shown us that in all religions, none of them will ever hit the mark because of human error. But to find good fellowship, a church is a good idea. I'm not one to sit at the bar, and most of the people I work with are JW's.
Another thing about my husband saying it was not ok for me to take my son to a church. He is still a JW, and we know how they fear going into a church. The bible wants us to be peaceable with all men so if I do it anyhow or behind his back, will that make peace? no! This is where I need to build faith in God and pray to him that my son doesn't get warped up in the Borg like most kids do. He will be taught how to hold the ten commandments and conduct himself as far as manners, so I have to look at the good side.
I thank all who replied about what they think of idols. I got to thinking more on that and the only one that fears idols are JWs. For instance, I put an american flag bumper sticker on my car, my husbands truck broke down, but he would not use my car to go to the kingdom hall because of that bumper sticker. Its just a sticker, but HE gave it power it didn't have before, that is idolatry. To me its just a sticker.
So thank you all who replied to my last post. Keep in touch, much love and peace!

What church should I go to now?

They all have the american flag, crosses, and symbols. So now what? If I go to the kingdom hall I will just get shunned and I do need association. My husband won't let me take my son to a church. The pastor that I have been working with says they don't worship these symbols or put them before God but my husband seems to think so. I'm torn and need your opinions.

Even some sites that show a perspective from someone other than a witness. People need to know. When I was studying with them I was never told about the shunning. So please give me something to start a email with so it can be forwarded around the world. If we are going to chip away at mind control, then lets see how serious you all are.

by Cotton Tail ini have been disassociated for almost ten years and would not step foot into a kingdom hall if you paid me.
i have been lurking around the board for the past month or so making posts hear and there but i am confused.
it sounds like there is a great deal of you who frequent the board still attend the kingdom hall.

I talked to many of JWs before I got out and tried to let them see that I wasn't evil and that I am a good person before I left. My point is.....its not the men of the borg that decide who goes into the new system, its God. When I am in the new system, or heaven, or whatever else God has planned for us all, then I will stand and say "Gee look, I wasn't a JW and I am here!" I totally understand why some stay just to be close to family and friends. I still have lots of them talk to me secretly and I tell them the good things that I do (you will know them by their works) so they know they won't be alone out in this evil abyss if they leave the Borg. I couldn't stay within because it literally made me sick to my stomach to see such good people be forced to be so mean to each other. There is nothing Christlike in shunning someone just because they don't want to be Jehovah's witnesses. Men made up that name. Nobody called God or got a fax saying this is what ye shall be called.
So my heart goes out to those who want to close to family and have found a way to do so. We should be peaceable with all men. And I feel the ones that stay for family and friends are doing just that. -

Are just Jehovah's Witnesses the choosen people?
by serenaj92 inwhy is it in the bible that it does say that jesus said to take the bread and the wine in the last supper, but he doesn't say its restricted only to the 144,000 going to heaven?
he was talking to his apostles of course, so does that mean only the elders, and anointed should do this?
i have looked in the bible on who should and shouldn't do this and have found nothing.

Can you help? The church that I like to go to is on this subject and the pastor is teaching that Jesus just said do this in rememberance of me and not only do this if you are of the choosen as discribed by Jehovah's witness.
