i have been an observer of this site for some time now.

There ya go again JW man with your empty promises. You have learned well how to be one of Jehovah's witnesses. Spout off a few uneducated clichés and hope the people just buy into the fact that you might know something. From the looks of it you are a new JW with a lot of zeal. I have seen so many new ones run around like they have just discovered gold only to find out later it was fools gold.

Rock on little brother and try to read as often as you write in this forum. You just might find what you didn't even realize what you were looking for. I would say more but I don't have time to get into it. Sound familiar? Freedom of thought and an open mind leads to true happiness. Lock your mind into the teaching of the JW's and it will be their prisoner to do as they please. Keep an open mind and listen to the facts as many here lay them out and you may save yourself from many years of unhappiness.

I'm sure it was a stake JC ate because he was Jewish and he didn't eat pork. Now as for Momma Cass, I think she died from eating sixteen ham sandwiches. I'm not sure though, I was just a little kid back then. I know I died every time my mom made me eat anchovies! Those things were all harry and salty and slimy and smelled like f............never mind.

I guess your taste buds die when you grow up.

I think the "H" stands for Herbert but don't quote me on that. It might also be Harold or Harry, it's been so long since Iv been to a meeting I have forgotten all that detail stuff. I do know he died while eating a stake or something like that.

Boy, I'm going to catch hell form a few of my christian friends for that one!

Just thought I would add something to one of the bible threads. I don't participate in them much.

Your words are as shallow as you knowledge. Passing out little salvation cliche's and saying you know our pain has about much substance as a fortune cookie. Anyone can say those empty words even a raving lunatic on the street corner of a large city. Just because you can say them does by no means make them true. You say you don't have time to go into any of the questions asked of you but you have the time to keep coming back and spouting the same empty words. Either you are lying about the time you have or these little spiritual nursery rimes all you have. If you post again on this or any other thread we will all know the answer to that question.

Thanks for the chuckle and just a thought for ya, I am not feeling any pain at all. I do have a little bit of a sore wrist and some tightening up of my right butt cheek. If you have any suggestions for that then I'm listening. Dave needs his bummy rubbed!

What I'd really like to see is how long it will take Simon to deactivate your account. I'm betting on two days. Any one want a piece of this action?

Your relative's experience is one that many of us have had to try and figure out. The JW religion is notorious in giving a false sense of security. With the scripture quoting technique it has been crafted in a way to accomplish it's own agenda and is only effective if a person accepts it as the only real truth. In addition to it's self serving carving and serving of little life tid bits it also has a way of putting a man and a woman together purely based on somewhat of a physical attraction but mainly the ease and acceptance of having a mate that is of like mind and belief. For any intelligent person who has enough love and respect for themself they need to come to the conclusion that staying in an unhealthy relationship is just another form of self abuse.

I'm sure the word "selfish" has been thrown at her. That word has only been seen in a negative connotation. When a person does not ever see the good that being selfish in a certain context can bring they could be headed for disaster. When someone gives and gives to others their whole life and nothing is giving back in return they are considered to be unselfish and acceptable. That conclusion is generally arrived upon by those who have been receiving the unselfish acts. I believe the most selfish act a person can perform is suicide. They get so caught up in what others want from them and do not have the joy and relief of finally doing something for themselves when the final straw is applied it inevitably breaks their psychological back.
Your friend needs to begin to look at being a little selfish as a good thing. It might even be a life saving experience. It is her life and life is too shot to live it being unhappy. Once she fully understands the importance of being happy she will then be able to explain it to her kids in a way a mother as well as an informed intelligent person can. The rest is up to them.

As far as her love for god goes that can remain with her by making a few mental adjustments. Her perspective on god is based on what she has been told god is by the JW's. So many who leave the religion also leave the concept of a god. Just because the JW teaching of god expressed by their actions is what drove us away from their concept of god many leave not only the JW belief but the whole concept in general. In some cases to do this is to agree with them. Personally I leave myself open to the concept of god but do not assign any one particular belief system to it.

It is very similar to going to a foreign country and handing someone an onion and an orange. Since they have never seen an onion or an orange their belief on which is which is based on what you tell them. Have them bite into the onion while you are claming it is an orange and their belief in what an orange is set, based on their taste experience and belief and trust in the person who gave it to them. They simply do not know better being in a sheltered environment that does not allow them to go out in the world and experience the real truth as it is. This is the key for the disfellowshipped tactic. Do not expose the people to alternative possibilities of what the truth is and you can control what they believe the truth to be. Keep those who have discovered the real truth away from those who have not and you win the game.

I suggest that if your friend really wants to love god then she should try and look into other definitions of who he is. All she knows is that the WTBTS has told her. By her experience with an abusive husband she might be open to this thought. If they let him not only get away with his controlling ways but also encourage it with the no questions asked head of the house hold woman in subjection crap then she might start to see the flaws and untruths in other aspects of their teaching. That little voice inside her head that is telling her that this and that are wrong is just her intelligence and reasoning ability telling her that what she has been told is right, is in truth, wrong. That little voice is not a pointy tailed little pearly gate drop out trying to corrupt her. If she can grasp just that one concept that it is her own intelligence that is helping her make these decisions and not Satan the invisible bad guy, she can then listen to her own wisdom and begin to examine and explore possibilities that will finally make her happy.

The JW's condemn an open mind be cause they know what it can lead to. They protect pedophiles for the same reason.

I wish her the best in her quest for happiness.

What do you think would happen if aliens landed?

let's paint a little picture.. it's spring 2002. at 1200h gmt a radio and tv announcement is broadcast on almost all conventional frequencies, in appropriate formats according to the medium and the area.. it's from a bunch of pale violet humaniods who have come "in peace for all qw'z'x>kind".

they say they want to meet up with the un in full cnongress.. disbelief rapidly turns to amasement when cnn and other news-services provide footage of a large alien vessel descending into the river near the un.

large in this case means 5km long... and wisely, none of the sac jets sent to have a look pull a will smith or anything stupid, although one gets nudgeed gently away by an invisable beam of some sort when it gets too close.. let's say it becomes apparent the aliens are utter benign, happy to hand out technological aid, scientific knowledge, and hope to welcome the people of earth to your typical peaceful federation of planets (about 5,00 different species all told).. how do you think people would react?

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you in your assumption based on the social climate of the planet as it is today. My thoughts were based on a slow and steady baby step approach to the earth being gradually introduced to a more absolute realization of an impending visit. The announcement of the posibility of microorganisms in a rock said to have come from Mars could indeed be step one. Or at least a step that would be more widly accepted then the thousands of space ship photos and stories from people who claim to have been abducted.

History has shown in the discovery of new worlds that more advanced civilizations landing on foreign lands of a lessor advanced civilization usually at first had a positive acceptance. It is only after the so called discovers breached the level of trust that things went bad. Captain Cook in Polonaise, Columbus's men left behind to build in the Americas and Cortez in central America are just a few examples. At first the native people were hesitant but soon accept the new explorers when they saw they could benefit from their technology. It was the desire for gold and riches that drove most explores to their quest and with that as a goal it set them up for disaster. When an exploration based on equal trade was the goal such as the concept of bread fruit in exchange for tools in the case of English exploration of Tahiti things went along much smoother.

In any exploration, invasion, or discovery scenario it was the constant theme of "why" they came that determined how things finally ended up. No matter how primitive a society appeared the simple fact of the natives greatly out numbering the invaders usually won out on any argument.

If a more advanced civilization did exist and they came to earth with the thought of giving but also receiving on an equal basis the benefits could be unequal to anything this planet has ever experienced. That concept is hard to grasp by most humans because of the experiences of our own history and the way we acted in similar instances.

Whether you believe in space ships and alien races is irrelevant. Keeping an open mind and pondering the many possible scenarios is what is interesting to contemplate. I will still hold to the possibility that they exist and that if a race of beings had the intelligence to get here that they would be more advanced in not only technological achievements but also social ones. I think that the natives of this planet have more to gain from them then they would have to gain form us. If a visit was done as an invasion as opposed to an exploration and discovery then I hope the little suckers land in the USA. We have all the biggest and best guns. Unfortunately I think that is the general consensus.

the words "i'm sorry" have been misunderstood in today's world to sometimes give the person who is saying it the position of being weak.

as if they are less than perfect because they are admitting they had made a mistake.

Situations like dealing with Yardirf blow my theory of trying to understand others all to hell. Some times you just need to call a spade a spade (card playing terminology and analogy). As far as logical goes, I wish I had an absolute stance on whether I believe in god or not so I could make the statement "god only knows."

You definitely are the king of comedy here. I always love to read your comments. If you ever slip down to Portland lets get together and smoke some crack or something.

There is an old Zen Master saying. Man does not have control over his own path, he can only repeat that which has come before him. That being his ancestors.

I hope this is not true but I see my many faults that I do not understand being a repeat of some of my dads. I work hard every day trying to learn from his mistakes. My heart goes out to you and your situation. Trust me when I say I know how it is to love someone who you can only sit back and wish thing were different. My last relationship just about did me in. I loved the person who she could have been, but who she turned out to be by little fault of her own broke my heart. Life goes on.

If I ever take a trip down to So.Cal I will try to look you up. I use to live there and still have several good friends around. It's been too long since I visited.
