God, one person, or three?

the trinity doctrine says god is three persons in one being.. yet the bible says god is one.. gal 3.20 a mediator, however, implies more than one party; but god is one.

gal 3.20 now a mediator is not for just one person, but god is one.

The new testament and the ambiguous use of the term lord is rooted in a believe that Jesus was the Angel of the Lord, the word of the Lord, The Glory of the Lord, The Wisdom of the Lord in the old testament. The figure that seemed to be separate and yet equal with god.

The objections to this usually follow three paths.

1. Jesus speaking in this humanity. John 17.3

2. Verses out context. ie ( firstborn of creation )

3. God somehow gives his power and authority to another person who asks acts and speaks as god but isn't, those making Jehovah just a god.

I understand a lot of this is quite if a tree falls in the forest , what came first , the chicken or the egg etc etc.

The quite remarkable part is how little a JW knows about the new testament narrative. It is just nuts that a person can go door to door claiming to teach the bible with no clue of the unfolding story.

from what i see as a southern european in my constituency the situation is patchy.. the congregation where i am now has 30% old people on zoom but also young couples with almost all their cameras off.

no increase but a slight decrease in the total number of publishers.. circuit assemblies: before covid you couldn't find a free seat if you arrived 10 minutes before the start.

Our hall is growing through immigration , as is all of Canada. The majority are still very old and the majority of younger ones are still unmarried and childless. People in there late 20s to mid 30s think they have all this time, to establish themselves with a career and family. Sadly they are mistaken.

I guess this isn't a problem unique to the JWs. Our hall although growing somewhat is still a demograhics nightmare.

John 1:1 in Coptic Translation

apparently there has been quite a stir in jw apologetic circles recently about the translation of john 1:1 in the early sahidic version of john.

i don't know if this has been discussed here before - if someone could give a link to a previous thread they know about on the subject that would be great.

John is saying the word or angel of Yahweh in the Old Testament was Yahweh incarnate . The invisible omnipresent god becomes stationary and visible. The infinite becomes finite. The creator steps into the creation.

First video from the convention is all about FEAR

this was leaked only few days ago and it's a small segment of the video from the 2024 convention that has already started.

the video shows a jw logo down while worried jws are watching it as a news item on their tv screens, others are seen hiding from the police, others driving is the countryside to escape the authorities.

I really like when they push this angle. It makes any fence sitters realize that it has nothing to do with the bible. It is just a batshit crazy doomsday cult. I really wish they would make more videos like this.

Education video this midweeks meeting

there is an item this week all about yang ones leaving school.. the two brothers go to a career advisor seminar.

one brother thinks it’s good to work hard full time while you are young and tries to encourage his friend to as well.. his friend (who is the good jw trust the gb no matter what they say)) he wants a part time job.. the video shows him dreaming about investing his money on his phone and the chart goes up, he drives a nice car and seems to be doing well financially.. then he reads the scripture in proverbs and next you see that investment chart go down in the red and he is so pleased he just got a low paid part time job.. this infuriates me.

how many of us are now struggling because we were told to get menial part time jobs and we were told the end would have been here by now.. i will never tell a young person to listen to the gb advice on this.

I have two brother in laws . One is a heart surgeon and the other is an engineer working in the nuclear power industry. Both are at the top of their fields and both are published in scientific and academic journals.

The idea that some religious half wit tells me it is all done for financial gain is truly offensive.

The reference in John 1 as Jesus as the " word " of god, is the phrase in the old testament " the word of the lord appeared and the lord said. ". The physical manifestion of god.

The whole " a god " or " was god " doesn't really matter , unless you believe Jehovah or LORD was " a god ".

Kingdom hall cleaning

what are your memories of hall cleaning?.

i actually enjoyed it on the whole, my dad as the elder always tried to keep it to under one hour but in my later years in a hard-line congregation it was a chore.

the po's wife had a printed list and we had to complete it all before left (or got disapproving looks if we left after an hour).. as well as vacuuming the whole building the lost said you had to dismantle the vacuum and clean and polish all the internal elements.

I never liked the idea of asking young people with families to help out . It seems to me there are enough retired people and single weirdo’s to handle the task.

In my experience it seems like to pay special attention to people with limited time.

The theme of the new testament is the covenant blessings of the Jewish people being opened to all of humanity. Any who believes what Christ did on the cross is sufficient for our sins and becomes the new person in Christ , these are the new people of god. The jew to the gentile.

Building core theology around the book of revelations that basically voids the new testament for anyone but 9 men is pretty bloody silly.

Bible study

i used to attend the meetings and was baptized about 30 years ago but i haven't gone to the meetings or associated with any one i new from the congregation for around 15 - 20 years.

i want to get back to studying but i am not ready to go to any meetings.

other than the watchtower and awake what book is used these days for people just starting to study with jehovah's witnesses?.

Slander, Insult, eschatology based nonsense then unique dogmas and legalisms . Then throw is a health dose of narcissist boasting about being a member of a really special club. Then some idol worship of 9 magical wizards.

Lets sing a song. Two hours of your life you never get back.

There is no actual bible study. I have never met a JW who could give me a brief summary of the book of Romans or what the Gospel message is.
