What is an Amicus Brief
by 3acrewood inhi, waiting, and all others concerned about this amicus brief:.
just to set the record straight - i have been a legal secretary for over 20 years, and i assure you there is nothing shady about the society filing an amicus brief in regard to this swaggart thing.
an amicus brief is filed in cases in which the verdict could set a precedent that would or could have an adverse affect on other parties not involved in the suit (i.e., other religious organizations, corporations, etc.).

Blood Transfusion?
by Friend inconsidering the latest questions from readers article on blood transfusion, i was wondering what the feelings are among this forums participants about blood transfusion.
over the years the society has been receiving a growing amount of letters on the subject of blood and blood transfusion.
any interesting biblical perspectives here about whether "abstain from blood" means abstain from blood transfusion?

Friend, Wasn't it the Who that sang, "...then I'll
get on my knees and pray. We won't get fooled again?" You did an adequate job of making your point. Here's mine: Any way they decide to spin this it will never compensate for those who are now members of the cemetary club. You say I need to cheer up. I have a positive attitude but can't help but feel for past victims of misinterpreted scripture. -

waiting, I wish my Mother and I were able to have discussions like this but since we can't it's comforting to have online friends like you. It's people like you and others here that makes the dark days easier to get through. I think there are
incidents in each of our pasts that have damaged us to a certain degree-some more than others. We have learned so much from one another but more important we are learning to trust in people again
and trust our own judgement.7

Friend, Thank you for clarifying several of the Society's teachings. Your explaination made perfect sense to me but they'll never budge on the issue.

Thank you spec. :-") I would never attempt suicide. I was using that as an example of what I felt refusing life saving medical treatment would be equivalent to. Thank you again brother for your kind words.

Dear Spec, I normally don't join in these blood discussions because it's far too personal a thing with me. I've been fortunate so far and the non-blood treatments I've had seem to be working for NOW. If Jehovah uses this as a test of obedience then he must approve of suicide because this is what I would equate the refusal of a transfusion to be for me. I don't expect others to fully understand or even care[the Society doesn't]. I didn't post to get sympathy. The only thing I ask is for everyone NOT to turn their backs on those who may choose life over death. It's amusing that we don't believe in faith healing but that's exactly what the Society is asking us to do-just have faith. I wouldn't even consider writing a letter voicing my complaints. It would be a pointless waste of time. Thank you spec for offering your support. I know Friend was just asking a simple question. There are no simple answers.

I'm having a hard time believing that Jehovah God would prefer I die rather than accept a transfusion. I have a form of anemia that may in the future require some form of blood. I'll keep your email address handy and you can come help my family pick out my coffin.

Rhw, I am also a fan of Anne Rice. I think she's working on the screenplay now for Queen of the Damned. It looks like she has Nicole Kidman in mind for Akasha opposite her hubby Tom as Lestat.
We know Red that it is best to avoid novels that
arouse immoral feelings or that engender unrealistic expections.(hehehe) -

Pharaoh Shoshenk I
by George inhistory records that pharaoh hedjkheperre shoshenk i embarked on a campaign into palestine sometime during his twenty-one year reign as pharaoh of egypt.
his relief, at karnak, lists the names of the cities and towns captured during his campaign.
his first strike was gaza of philistia, which included a secondary campaign into the negev, south of judah.

George, Without reading your article, I assume you
are speaking of the Victory relief of Pharaoh Sheshonk I[Shishak] at the Temple of Karnak. The god, Amun is depicted bringing the Pharaoh 156 manacled Palestinian prisoners who are attached to
his left hand by cords. A prisoner was selected to represent every city or village. Some had Biblical names: the Father of Arad and the Field of Abraham.Rhw-good one, that's the first thing I thought of too. lol
