Laughter Is The Best Medicine
by somebody in1898 "god .. evidently has been a respecter of races, and has specially blessed and favored certain branches of the aryan race in europe and america.. the white race has been more abundantly blessed with the light of the gospel than others .. the elect church will probably be composed chiefly of the highly favored white race.." {evol 30-1}.
1900 "there are probably as many as a hundred colored brethren on the watch tower lists, some of them very clear in the truth, and very earnest in its service, financially and other-wise .. [but they are not allowed to participate in the "pioneer work" as] although we have received letters from several of these, who had intended engaging in the volunteer work, expressing surprise that in the call for volunteers in the march 1, 1900 issue we restricted the inquiry to white protestant churches.
.. the reason is that so far as we are able to judge, colored people have less education than whites - many of them quite insufficient to permit them to profit by such reading as we have to give forth.

Happy Monday! A lady stopped at a discount store to pick up several items on her way home from the office. After waiting in line she finally got up to the cashier and discovered that one of her items
had no price tag. Much to her embarrassment the cashier got on the intercom and boomed out for the entire store to hear: "Price check on lane thirteen, Tampax, Supersize." As if that wasn't bad enough, somebody at the rear of the store apparently misunderstood the word "tampax" for "thumbtacks." In a business-like tone, a voice boomed back over the intercom: "Do you want the kind you push in with your thumb or the kind you pound in with a hammer?" -

Classical Music
by RedhorseWoman inlast weekend i was enjoying a sarah mclachlan marathon, this weekend it was kenny wayne shepherd and any other blues/rock i could locate.. while indulging in the music that i love, i started thinking about the "gold old jw days", and i remembered listening to the rite of spring by stravinsky, as well as many other classical works when i was younger.. i was transported to a magical, mythical place, and i would frequently put together my own dance routines to accompany the music (since i wasn't allowed to go to dance class).
then came the "warnings" from brooklyn about the pagan themes surrounding many classical works.
the rite of spring was specifically mentioned as one that could turn the good jw into a foaming, demon-inhabited monster.. destroyers of dreams, creators of the mundane--how could i have allowed them to strip my life of all the beautiful things?

Red, Thanks for starting this thread. I am so into opera-one of the things my mother and I will always have in common(I know she still indulges).Flashback-early childhood. My mom and I would be home alone on a humid summer evening-no breeze at all. We'd open the French Doors from the dining room out onto the patio. I'd go out and set up the cribbage board and she'd bring the ice tea. But not before turning the stereo up to maximum warp-Carmen, La Boheme, Don Giovanni. All on reel-to-reel, which I was forbidden to touch. lol We'd play cards while she answered my questions as to what these songs were about and why weren't they in English. Now many, many years later I paint to this music. It touches my soul. One of my favorites is Delibes' Lakme(a Brit officer & a Brahmin priest's daughter in India-19thc.) I love the "Flower duet." Dear Red, They were never able to rob you of your imagination, your creativity or your soul. Somehow you hung on to that. What a truly amazing and talented woman you are. It's you that makes your surroundings more beautiful. Alia told you to enjoy life! Pull out all the stops and don't ever look back. *hugs*

They'll be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty-before the last revolving year is through. And the seasons they go round and round. And the painted ponies go up and down. We're captive on the carousel of time. We can't return we can only look behind from where we came. And go round and round and round in the circle game.Joni Mitchell
