Whats in it for them?

i have been out for nearly 40 years now - baptized at 14 (although not to the org), but faded away.

but i am wondering about this:.

aside from the obvious power they wield, what's is in it for the gb?

Thank you all for your responses. I personally don't think they are deluded in so much as they know full well that they are changing a doctrine, change a word here or there = change the meaning, blame the RF if you believed what they told you (circa 1975), misinterpret to keep those believers in line, change the wording in the Bible to suit your teachings etc. If you read Franz's 'Crisis of Conscience', he states that most of the decisions were made without prayer; aka no discussion with God; so really, they know darn well what they are doing.

Again thanks everyone - oh and I really enjoy this site, so thank you to all who participate.

Aside from the obvious power they wield, what's is in it for the GB? Are they getting rich? Are they drawing salaries?

The degree of audacity overwhelms the mind. How true too is the fact that most JW's won't see that the GB is telling them they are being mislead - by them, but the RF cannot see what is right in front of them.

"Many of us are being influenced and manipulated – far more than we realize" - by the GB

"Keep in mind that Satan does not want you to think clearly or reason things out well" - read only WT publications

On the other side of the mouth:

"Be determined to stick to Jehovah’s organization and loyally support the leadership he provides"

Curious what is the Societies stand today on disassociations?

"The Watchtower, September 15, 1981, page 23, "One who has been a true Christian might renounce the way of the truth, stating that he no longer considers himself to be one of Jehovah’s Witnesses or wants to be known as one. When this rare event occurs, the person is renouncing his standing as a Christian, deliberately disassociating himself from the congregation ... Persons who make themselves 'not of our sort' by deliberately rejecting the faith and beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses should appropriately be viewed and treated as are those who have been disfellowshiped for wrongdoing."

Just because something is old, does not mean it is "Special" or "Sacred" or "Valuable"

a thought occurred to me that simply because something is old does not make it valuable or worthy of sacred reverence.. the bible is held up as sacred just because it is "old" and apparently preserved.. but, that does not make sense.

if in thousands of years someone finds a notebook of my scribbles or sketches that i threw away, that doesn't elevate them to "valuable status" simply because they survived.

they were thrown away because they were worthless.. or if an archaeologist finds an ancient broken bit of pottery that was used for garbage disposal, it doesn't change its status from what it once was - a garbage bin.. i guess what i am trying to ask is, why is it that we as humans give value to writings just because they are old?.

"If the dead know nothing at all" and their "thoughts perish" on the very day they die . . . then why is it that people continue to talk to them......because we miss them. At least that is why I continue to talk to my dead mother.

The wedding ceremony practiced by JWs in the United States and the use of wedding rings comes from pagan beliefs of preventing the bride from being possessed by spirits.

Began in Egypt as a symbol of eternity. Romans take over adopting this tradition but with their own twist. Rather than offering a ring to a woman as a symbol of love, they awarded them as a symbol of ownership. Roman men would “claim” their woman with the giving of a ring. In 860 the ring becomes a Christian symbol, but one not without it's heathenish undertones.

JW's And Yoga

this was partly discussed in this thread: https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/4853755331739648/these-common-jw-beliefs?page=2#!#5701815683252224 but i wanted to delve into the topic of yoga even further.. it seems watchtower have no clue what yoga actually is, or what it can achieve.

I remember around ten years ago The Williams sisters had a reality show, on one episode I remember Venus's coach or whoever had mentioned to her about doing some yoga and Venus kept saying "my religion doesn't believe in it" or "I can't do it because of my religion!", she said it quite a few times as the woman was trying to convince her it would be good for her. Amazing how they stand up for Jah's principles and probably haven't stepped foot in a KH in decades.

Actually that is Serena. Not a baptized JW, so no disfellowshiping for her....perhaps a disassociation? Wait what am I saying? Got money? Got fame? You can stay.

Nightmare on memorial night. This cult really sucks.

as soon as i woke up i asked myself when am i going to get this cult out of my head.
