Do any of us really want the truth?
by Qcmbr ini've been reading some essays concerning disagreement online that got me thinking - i won't even attempt to do them justice but to share some ideas that struck home to me.
we spend most of the time here sharing ideas and thoughts often in response to other posts and as arguements to invalidate or re-colour what someone else said.
there is an implicit drive behind each thread to somehow approximate a 'truth' from the many different viewpoints - almost like a collective conscience ('the forum') weighing and then selecting or rejecting the mood of the thread and as we share in the posts we add just a little weight and influence to its direction.

Maybe , just maybe we have no real interest in actual truth but have a far deeper psychological goal of simply re-inforcing our self belief that we are indeed perceiving the world correctly.
"maybe, just maybe??" There are some who believe a 19th century american put some gravel in his hat and found the word of God but then lost the gravel but take his word for it. I imagine such beliefs require constant reinforcement.

Anyone heard of the 'Phantom Time Hypothesis'?
by IronGland ina german systems analyst who asserts that the 'dark ages' did not exist.
the 300 years between 614 and 911 are an invention.we would then actually be living in the 18th century not the 21st.
prabably not true, but fun to think about and speculate on why the powers that be (catholic church) would insert 3 nonexistant centuries.

For evolutionists-Wild vs. Domestic dogs
by gringojj inhow long do you think it will or do you even think that speciation will occur between wild dogs(wolves, dingos, african wild dogs) and domestic dogs?
assuming that they are left seperate and continue in thier enviroment i think that domestic dogs will devolve much like humans are now, and i would guess that the wild breeds will become a seperate species in the next few thousand years.
any thoughts?

Apparently, God is not a theater fan . He prefers television
Hollywood – Pat Robertson on Sunday said that Hurricane Katrina was God’s way of expressing its anger at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for its selection of Ellen Degeneres to host this year’s Emmy Awards. “By choosing an avowed lesbian for this national event, these Hollywood elites have clearly invited God’s wrath,” Robertson said on “The 700 Club” on Sunday. “Is it any surprise that the Almighty chose to strike at Miss Degeneres’ hometown?”
Robertson also noted that the last time Degeneres hosted the Emmys, in 2001, the September 11 terrorism attacks took place shortly before the ceremony.“This is the second time in a row that God has invoked a disaster shortly before lesbian Ellen Degeneres hosted the Emmy Awards,” Robertson explained to his approximately one million viewers. “America is waiting for her to apologize for the death and destruction that her sexual deviance has brought onto this great nation.”
Robertson added that other tragedies of the past several years can be linked to Degeneres’ growing national prominence. September, 2003, for example, is both the month that her talk show debuted and when insurgents first gained a foothold in Iraq following the successful March invasion. “Now we know why things took a turn for the worse,” he explained.
In order to avoid further tragedy, Robertson called not only for the Television Academy to find a new heterosexual host, but to bar all homosexuals and bisexuals from taking part in the ceremony.
He said employees at the Christian Broadcasting Network had put together a list of 283 nominees, presenters, and invited guests at the Emmys known to be of sexually deviant persuasions.
“God already allows one awards show to promote the homosexual agenda,” Robertson declared. “But clearly He will not tolerate such sinful behavior to spread beyond the Tonys.”

Another Warning From God
by Kenneson inthe message remains the same.
reform your lives or be chastised.
from the comments i have read about god's supposed non-existence in this forum, it seems that we will only learn the hard way.

only know what I am aware of. Why would God silence me? He has moved me to be His spokesman.
Kenneson, please stay away from firearms and explosives. Also please refrain from voting or running for office. "God's spokesmen" have caused untold misery to humans in the past. Have you thought that maybe the bogeyman is you?
Let's see if I am reading this correctly.... All of this got worse when YOU started your so-called heavenly approved preaching work. By your own admission, the storms are following YOU.
Lol. Remember a few years ago when Pat Robertson warned the people of Florida that a hurricane that was on course to hit florida was god's punishment for their liberal attitudes towards gays? The storm then changed direction and instead hit Pat's hometown in Va.

It's so much easier to kill terrorists while we are there. And the plan is working when you consider the effects of the law of supply and demand on suicide bombers.
You actually believe all those fighting the US are "terrorists"?
