Yeah. You think the boards are bad, try the chatroom. There's quite a few self appointed mod's with delusions of grandeur that hang out there.

Who died and made you Grand Pooh-Bah?
by BB inever get the feeling that some from these or perhaps other boards view themselves in some sort of leadership capacity?
its as though they might not have gotten enough of being an elder or ministerial servant and still relish the idea of being in charge.
one of the best ways to determine if an individual still has visions of grandeur is to disagree with them.

America/US government...a lying contradiction.
by pomegranate inthose who already walk submissively will say there is no cause for alarm.
but submissiveness is not our heritage.
the first amendment was designed to allow rebellion to remain as our heritage.

Yes, jurs, many places in the world are shitholes. What does that have to do with the U.S? Are you saying a person has no right to complain as long as some other place has it worse?

Scientists Try to Create New Life
by Reborn2002 in.
normally metatron would post an article similar to this, so when i read this information on yahoo news, i certainly found it appropriate for this discussion board.. i would like to see the watchtower bible and tract society and the organization known as jehovah's witnesses try to explain this one, since according to their doctrine only god is capable of creating life.. the scientists mentioned here are starting with single-celled organisms, but the next step from there would lead towards more complex biological creatures.
science is growing bone, restoring eyesight, healing diseases (with the potential of stem-cell research should this country ever get out from under the christian conservative bullshit of the bush administration) anything is possible.. just thought some may find this interesting reading..

Perhaps it could be argued that the WT had a hand in creating Michael Jackson. Does he qualify as a new life form?

It was mentioned above that we are still the 'freest" country on earth. I hear people say that alot. Not that I don't appreciate the freedoms I have, but in what way am I more free in the U.S than if I was in the U.K, or Holland or Denmark or Belgium? What can I do that a citizen of those nations cannot?

What New Light Are You Talking About?
by Robdar inandyman stated in another thread:this got me thinking about the change in the 1914 generation.
i remember how this was a very important point when i was studying back in the late 80's.
it was explained to me over and over that this system would defenitly end before the generation of 1914 passed away.

JWS, Yeah I guess they do still expect it before their new definition of a 'generation' passes away. Of course since the new definition means anybody alive during or after 1914, it essentially means 'the end will come before life on planet earth ceases to exist'. Since they believe Jehovah controls that, it means 'the end will come when jehovah is ready'. So, in my view, it's all just a clever way of saying 'yeah, i guess jesus was right about no one knowing the day or hour after all'
It's amazing how JW's view word definitions as being open to interpretation. Imagine if a person received a loan from the bank and when the time came to repay the loan, the term 'borrower' was open to interpretation.

Talking in public
by JH inwas it natural for you to speak in public, either from door to door, or making talks at the hall.
for some, it was a real scarry thing to speak in front of a group.
was that a big load off your back when you quit going to the meetings?

I despised giving talks. My stomach stayed in knots the entire day if I had an assignment. Where did the idea that everyone had to be a public speaker come from? I wonder how many people don't reach out for further responsibilities simply because they know it'll mean giving more talks? There's no way I could have ever been an elder for the simple fact that I could barely do a 5 minute talk, much less 45 minutes.

Changing the definition of a 'generation' does change everything. Prior to '95 it meant that someone who was alive in 1914 would still be alive at the end of the system. The new meaning allows the end to be a year from now or 500 years from now. Those who were JW's when a 'generation' meant something approximating a human lifetime realize it's a dramatic change..
