Thank you for your very vivid post. I could almost hear the "crunch". I was in a congragation once where there was a disfellowshipped "apostate" older sister, who would try to comment at the watchtower and would partake at the memorial. It used to really piss the brothers off who were passing around the "snacks".

and if you read some snarls in between those words, you don't know the half of it.. my wife asked me to go to the memorial last night, and i decided to go if for no other reason than to keep tabs on what's going on.
those who know my story know that my situation is unusual.. just before we left she came to me privately and said that she had something to tell me before i heard it from anyone else.
she knows exactly how i feel about the society, and was scared as to my reaction, and i don't blame her: there's hell to pay.. jeff strebe committed suicide the night before.

How do you know for sure that he committed suicide and it wasn't an accidental drowning? Especially "if" alcohol was involved. Did the accident happen at night or during the day?

I only stopped going to meetings in November of last year, but not one person called to invite me. Just as well, I would have missed watching Survivor and drinking beer with my hubby.

I have to differ with you on something you said regarding the counseling. I have heard witnesses say that going to a "worldly" counselor is dangerous because they promote "independent, selfish" thinking. And I am 34, although I wasn't sure what difference her age made.

one of the best parts of leaving the jw religion is the discovery that the majority of people worldly people are kind and decent folk, who are willing to be helpful if given the opportunity to do so.. but!
exiting dubs who have been born into the faith are definitely going to be somewhat naive in certain situations that can leave them open to abuse by cunning perpetrators.. i well remember my first couple of years out of dubdom.
i wanted to try anything and everything.

Give me a break! I would much rather my kids watch pokemon than look at the pictures in My Book of Bible Stories. Egads!! The pictures in there are frightening to a child. And of course my kids would focus on the one with the baby being held upside down about ready to be cut in two.
