Another thought came to mind.
The belief in a paradise earth is well and good. However, using that belief as rationale for not trying to improve your community and world now is a miserable and hurtful teaching. If God is going to take care of everyone in the future, then that only leaves us humans to take care of each other now.
Not to be forgotten is how unfair it is to expect people to hedge all of their life's bets on a future new world that we can't verify is true until we're already there. There is much more evidence that the world we currently live in is palpably, tangibly real than there ever could be that a future new world awaits or that one is even possible.
Why is it so wrong, even for people of faith, to live the one life we're currently living to the fullest? Then let the paradise come, if it will come, and let eternal nonexistence come, if it will come. That is, in fact, EXACTLY what the Bible tells us to do. (Ecclesiastes 9:10)
