I can't believe that at one time you claimed that you were probably old enough to be my father. How old are you, boy? 19? 20?

Class Action Lawsuit
by mikepence ini am seriously considering finding out what is involved in putting together a lawsuit against the wts.
one that all xjw's in the us can join in.. has the wts not violated our civil rights, taken away our right to choose, without bias, how to live our lives?
were not our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness violated?

Kevin, we all die a little bit at different times during our lives. And we all grow a little bit from those times. What you're being told is true...it's the natural cycle of life. I'm sorry for your loss and pain. It takes awhile, sometimes a couple of years to get past the pain of losing someone you love. It WILL pass, and you'll come out of it stronger and with more understanding.
Please talk to someone...it WILL help some.

Negative Reinforcement of World View
by Ranchette inhello everyone,.
i have had alot of surprises this past year since leaving the organization.it was scary at first.. one thing in particular i have realized recently is how much i subconsciencely reinforced the wts negative view of the world when i was a witness.. for example,i used to watch more negative tv programs which convinced me that the jws were right.shows such as 911,cops,true crime stories, new detectives, unsolved mysterys,cnn.....on and on.. i still like these shows and see nothing wrong with them.i can just see that i never watched anything positive when i was a jw.. or when i heard some tragedy i dwelt on it but ignored positive things.. just before i quit going to meetings i started looking at the world with new eyes.. it was very strange and confusing at first to see things more clearly.. we were taught that the word is wicked and there are just a few good people.. i have found the complete opposite to be true.. the good in this world far out ways the bad.. does anyone understand what i am saying?.

I was just thinking along similar lines tonight. Jehovah's Witnesses are AFRAID to participate and partake of any goodness and love that are in the world. They don't trust it. Anything worldly can't be 'good' or else they would be wrong. They may not outright think like that (although I think alot of them DO), but it's reflected in their fear.
I think they're made even more afraid by the unloving attitudes in the congregations. (If it's like this on the INSIDE, how bad must it be on the outside?) They don't trust any real love they might feel from outsiders, yet accept the hate/love in the congregations to be real. It's really very twisted.

Ashi, I'm glad to hear that you feel reassured and that your brother has agreed to report it if it happens again.
Maybe next time you see your dad you should shake his hand cordially, and tell him quietly so that only he hears you, that if it ever happens again you'll "hog tie the Sonofabitch and toss him on the front lawn for the cops to pick." That may rattle him and prevent a reoccurance. Has he ever had anyone threaten or stand up to him like that?

I'm sorry those people made you feel snubbed. That kind of stuff hurts. They should be ashamed for allowing that sort of mindset to become their natures.

How to wash your dishes properly
by spacegirl ini remembered the other day reading in an awake, oh it must have been about five or six years ago, an article on how to wash your dishes properly.
for god's sake, do jw's not know how to do that and do the borg think they have to tell them how to do it.
it's cracking me up just thinking about it.. to make you laugh even more, in the next issue of awake someone had written a bloody letter thanking them for the article and how it had helped them so much and had a query on whether to rinse dishes with water or not after washing.

(((But perhaps it is a bit too easy for you oh! so full of insight - being fat Americans to make fun of people from Africa, South America and South East Asia, to whom these points are not so self-explanatory as they are to you, oh mighty ones?)))
One has to wonder how they got by BEFORE this article? Where they all dying from eating off of dirty dishes? If not, why does the WTS CARE if they eat off of dirty dishes? If so, why didn't someone recognize it before so many lives were lost? Surely some UN agency or missionaries would have said, "Hey people, you're all getting sick and dying because your dishes are dirty."
Maybe they just don't like the idea of the food at the proper time being eaten off dirty dishes (or by unclean savages) ROFL

"UNCONDITIONAL LOVE"-REALLY???
by Bill Parker inunconditional love really?
some today believe that all anyone has to do is believe on the lord jesus christ.
just believe that this unconditional love is enough for us to gain this free gift.

Personally, I think that you and those who think like you do have taken the same path as the Christian Jews who thought that Gentiles had to get circumcized and follow Jewish Law as their 'works that befit repentence.'
When someone realizes that they are truly forgiven for their sinful acts, they repent from those acts and start living life in a way that shows they have truly cast off the chains of sin. Don't you think that doing that are 'works that befit repentence'? Nowhere in the Bible does it say that you MUST do certain things OTHER than repent and get baptized to publicly display the faith you are now putting in Christ's sacrifice. When you do those things, you are saying to God, "I'm sorry". Usually when someone is TRULY sorry for their errors they don't turn back to continuing down the same path, do they? They CHANGE. The changing is the 'works that befit repentence.'
Does that mean that someone who accepts the forgiveness and unconditional love of God will never sin again? NO it doesn't. But if you DO sin and confess your sins and REPENT from them, God WILL forgive you.
Who do you think you are that you can attach conditions to something that God has clearly attached NO conditions to? HE GIVES us a new lease on life. HE GIVES us the strength and desire to live in a way that is free from the baggage of doubt and sin. HE GIVES us everything that we need to continue FAITHFUL. There is not one thing that we can do to aquire these things for ourselves. HE has FREELY GIVEN us the opportunity and the means to take hold of it. UNCONDITIONALLY.

(((The end result of said testing produces the works necessary to identify the individual as a true worshipper of God. James 1:2,3.)))
What kind of works are acceptable to God? What kind of works are judged by God? What kind of works identify an individual as a true worshipper of God? Can a person do good works without faith and gain salvation? Can a faithful person do works that contradict what is acceptable and gain salvation?
Ezekiel 4:12 "And as a round cake of barley you will eat it; and as for it, upon dung cakes of the excrement of mankind you will bake it before their eyes." And Jehovah went on to say: "Just like this the sons of Israel will eat their bread unclean among the nations to which I shall disperse them." And I proceeded to say: "Alas, O Sovereign Lord Jehovah! Look! My soul is not a defiled one; neither a body already dead nor a torn animal have I eaten from my youth up, even until now, and into my mouth there has come no foul flesh." Accordingly, He said to me: "See, I have given you cattle manure instead of the dung cakes of mankind, and you must make your bread upon it."
The works that Ezekiels faith called him to during this time wouldn't 'appear' to be the kind of works we think of when we talk of works, do they? Yet, Ezekiel didn't lack FAITH that God was telling him to do these things. He was concerned about defiling himself though. Even though God wouldn't have told him to do something that He would then condemn him for, He still made allowance for the Ezekiels conscience.
By all 'appearances' though, Ezekiel was doing something that made him unclean. He also probably 'appeared' to be crazy too. He had faith that he was doing what God told him to do. He had faith that God wouldn't judge him for obeying him. His faith was being put through a test though, don't you agree?
Hosea 1:2,3 There was a start of the word of Jehovah by Hosea, and Jehovah proceeded to say to Hosea; "God, take to yourself a wife of fornication and children of fornication, because by fornication the land positively turns from following Jehovah." And he proceeded to go and take Gomer the daughter of Diblaim, so that she became pregnant and in time bore to him a son.
Here's another example of God directed 'works' that seem unlawful. If Hosea was to be judged based on works by their own merit, he would be condemned by the law, wouldn't he? Yet his FAITH is what convinced him he was doing God's will. Do you think those who knew the law would think he was being faithful? I doubt it, they probably thought he was an unfaithful sinner. And crazy to boot. It was his faith that made his works righteous though. It was his faith that motivated him and took away any self judgement he might feel. It was his faith that was being refined, wasn't it? Faith is what makes us follow and obey God no matter where He takes us.
Matthew 26:38,39 The he said to them: "My soul is deeply grieved, even to death. Stay here and watch with me." And going a little way forward, he fell upon his face, praying and saying: "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me. Yet, not as I will, but as You will."
Jesus knew that the death that he was heading for would, by law, make him be cursed by God. He had FAITH in the truthfulness of the law that said so. He also had FAITH that God was directing him to do just that. His works by all appearances were unlawful. The manner of his death testified to that also. Still, we know that the FAITH Christ had is what led him to live and die the way he did. I think his faith was under constant test, but following his faith even to the point of death as a lawless man, brought him through triumphant.
Works, in relation to faith, are the physical demonstration of your faith. Works themselves can appear to be questionable, by a human standpoint. It is FAITH that makes works meaningful to God. Something is not acceptable or unacceptable on its own merit. It is the motive behind it that makes it so. Faith is what is important

Bill, I'm not sure how you can jump to a conclusion about the 'kind of faith' I'm talking about, since I was talking about the kind of faith that is produced by discipline from God. I don't remember ever saying that faith is not made manifest by a actions(works)? What I'm saying is that we don't get disciplined because our 'works' fall short of God. We can't do a darned thing to earn our way into God's favor. The 'works' that result from faith are a change in lifestyle, not something that we can use to measure our faithfulness.
I don't believe we are disciplined for falling short in works. I think we are disciplined when we fall short in faith. If we are short of faith, our work will suffer yes, but that isn't the reason for discipline.
Christ died because of our imperfections, why would we need to be disciplined for something beyond our control and has already been accounted for? If we have FAITH in that sacrifice however, there is no reason to be disciplined for our shortcomings. If you confess your sins, God is faithful and will forgive you.Does you believe that God's brand of forgiveness comes with conditions attached to it?

Ashi, I'm so sorry to hear that you and your family have to deal with this maniac. I hope your brother is alright. I have to agree with what Tina said about secrecy being the power behind this behavior. Your father has to called to account for his actions. I read that you have a plan, and that's good, but remember things don't always go according to plans. Your brother and any other children in that house have to be removed from that situation as soon as possible. Your mom should get out too. Your family has allowed this to go on long enough and the adults need to stop enabling that man to continue making your lives a living hell. I hope things work out for you all.
