this idea of mine, which i quote below, i think is sound.

i still stick to it because i think that it clears up a lot of confusion regarding *the two trees* and their purposes for being in the garden of eden: .

aside from the variety of other trees which jehovah provided for the daily needs of the first human pair, god had placed two especially necessary trees in the "middle of the garden.

The tree of the knowledge of good and bad gave them exactly that: knowledge of good and bad. They suddenly saw that they were naked for example. Soley a testing tree or "carrot" could have been a simple apple tree. But this tree actually did something, and is very telling as to the innocence of Adam and Eve prior to eating of it.

I don't think they gained the knowledge of good and bad at all when they ate from the tree.

In this story, God said that it was 'Good' after He made the 'naked' humans. They were 'good' , but when they ate, they saw their nakedness as bad. To me, that indicates their 'eyes' were closed, rather than opened. They couldn't tell the difference between good and bad anymore.

I think when they ate they got confused rather than enlightened in any way.

Ethics Discussion of WTS Blood Policy

the oncologist journal of august 2002 contains an interesting discussion between a panel of medical professionals on the subject of jehovah's witnesses refusing blood therapies.. this article focuses on a witness woman who refused some blood therapies but was convinced by her congregation elders that it was okay to accept bovine hemoglobin therapy.

realizing the glaring inconsistency of bovine hemoglobin being acceptable in the face of prohibiting other blood therapies like red cell infusion, one physician said,.

Pistoff, I know what you mean about the 'cows blood' aspect of this. The blood ban in the Bible clearly refers to animal blood, and the WTS, by extension applies it to human blood.

Why on earth would they allow the blood that's is specifically banned and not allow the blood that they feel is implicated, though not specified?

I wish the r&f JW's could see how shady the blood policy really is.

Name Your Funniest Experience Out In Service

this should be a fun thread.. one of the funniest things i can remember out in "service" .

was 2 other guys and myself in a car.

so we take turns going to the door alone.

LOL @ these stories.

The only one I can remember is once when we were doing a book offer the guy at the door wasn't interested in the book, so I went in my bag to get a couple of mags to offer instead. As I pulled the mags out, a couple of marbles that belonged to one of my sons fell out onto the floor. I said, "Looks like I'm losing my marbles."

Too bad I didn't realize then just how true those words were.

The guy took the mags and started a study a month or so later (I had to turn him over to a brother, of course). I hope he never got baptized.

did anyone catch the study 2 weeks ago when in one of the later paragraphs dealing with jehovah blessing his earthly organization, they actually admitted that jehovah had punished his earthly org in 1919?

i thought that was very interesting because usually the society would not even bring that up?

but it also brings up the point "what would prevent jehovah from disciplining his "earthly org" now for various wrong views and actions?.

The word, "Jehovah"

i just read that the name, 'jehovah' was created 700 years ago by a catholic monk who took the vowels from the word, 'lord' and combined them with the letters yhwh (the unpronounceable, biblical term for god).. anyone ever heard this or know a credible source for this info?.

now here's potentially something to share with your next visiting jw!.

It is the Watchtowers insistence that it is a correct and proper way to pronounce it that is the real problem. Taken that way the arguments are of course valid and will continue to no end.
