My elder Uncle used to comment at meetings that if you read the Awake for 2 years you have the equivalent of a collage education.

Why are JDubs scared to death of apostate websites?
by Sour Grapes inwhen i was an elder back in the 1970's i loved to debate and challenge ministers, preachers, and holy rollers.
now you can be a loyal jdub fully indoctrinated for 30 years but just take a peek at an apostate website and you are doomed.
yes, satan now has you by the gonads and all of the years of being at the meetings, all of the family worship nights, all of the conventions, and all of the personal study just go up in a cloud of smoke.

We were told this BS back in the day. Our people know so much about the bible they can tear up anyone in preaching. This has always been BS. It was only in their own mind that they were this good at preaching. I heard the story's, Oh my brother is so good at the bible knowledge he can destroy anyone's "false" religion. But in 30 years I never saw it once.

NWT support of John 1:1. Punching holes in it
by LevelThePlayingField inthis is what they have in the new world translation index 6a to support their version of john 1:1. they are not honest even to their own people.
they list the year of the bible, rendering, and source.
but there's only two sources that actually lend any type of support to their argument.

Personally I quit arguing these points long ago when I came to believe that the bible was nothing more than a goat herders book on the evolution of man. So for me it would be like arguing if there were two green eggs or one green egg with the ham in Dr Seuss.

Just asked JW wife to quit
by rathernotsay inso i wont get into why i asked my jw wife to leave... theres another thread for that lol... but more out of pure curiosity i asked her just now... "in order to save this marriage would you leave the jws?
", it was a snap call no, like not even a second to pause and think about it, which kinda took me back a bit, followed by a angry "why would you ask me that now?
" (shes going out witnessing with my kids and her friends).

I have watched several videos where a husband told his wife that he did not believe. Mark and Cora, Christian and Katja and a few others. The wife got upset every time. I think very calm asking to talk and ask the questions that made you question in the first place at what ever pace she seems to be OK with. Don't think because you are at a point that someone else can catch up over night. Take is slow, the facts are on your side. All you have to do is ask questions. People here will give you good questions to as that are not confrontational.

So glad my wife never really bought into the cult. The only thing we differ on is that I like to read and keep up on the cult and she feels like they fucked up enough of our life just forget them.

) and sent him a love letter, the letter is read and it says .

Sounds like a letter to Penthouse forum. LOL Unless this geek has a software co he sold or an app like that autistic fuck Zuckerberg I doubt it very very much. Sounds like the cult knows it has a lot of geek wimp bros and wants to keep them in line.

Without god what is the basis of morality?
by OneEyedJoe ini'm sure most here who've questioned or left behind their belief in god have encountered this question - without god, what basis can there be for morality?
my exwife, when i admitted that i was an atheist, once asked me "if you don't believe in god, what's to stop you from going out and raping and murdering?
" previously, whenever i got this objection, i would tend to turn it around on the other person with a response along the lines of "if fear of god is the only thing that stops you from murdering, that makes me rather nervous to be around you.

Humans are social creatures, as such you have to have structure to live socially. God is an invention to give few power over the many. The bible is the last book along with the Koran that I would call "moral"

The JW take on Black lives matter at the summer convention
by purrpurr inanother "gem" from the convention.
there's a talk about remaining neutral.
one of the topics they say jw's should avoid is the topic of "peoples lives matter" which is barely veiled code for black lives matter.

The tower has always done this. Not to get involved in anything other than preaching and reading cult lit. That said the Black lies murder is a terrorist org. Responsible for killing cops.

Who Is America? Sacha Baron Cohen (Ambush humor--what do you think?)
by TerryWalstrom inthere have been many tv programs all the way back to candid camera which set people up for pranks.
it was all in good fun and the results were shown only if a legal release was signed allowing the prank to be broadcast.getting permission after-the-fact was essential, otherwise, you've wasted your efforts.ahhhh, but what about public figures who are legally exempted from the necessary "permission" form agreement?is an ambush set-up fair or even ethical?the answer we give depends on how much we love or hate the victim!if we really, really dislike certain public figures there's a tendency to want to see them embarrassed and exposed as buffoons, idiots, hypocrites, and fools.on the other hand, consider this.
in a nation as divided as is america along color lines, political factions, and social "correctness" concerns--are we lighting a fuse by going too far?____why am i asking this question?i watched this preview and found myself torn.
