Thanks TonusOH. Although it does surprise me that men do get stuck in . My encounter with the elder may have given me a skewed idea of JW gender attitudes.

NotFormer, yes that was what l meant . I thought that women were privileged to make the tea and sandwiches and clean up after the men
I know that JW men don't like women having opinions. I once chatted to an elder who was out doing door knocking. I quoted some Scripture and asked some questions . I will never forget how he looked down on me ( literally, I'm not tall ) and in attitude saying brusquely " you have a lot to say for yourself young lady " as if that was awful .
It really shook me , l hadn't been rude to him and was used to talking to men as equals .
This gave me a good insight into gender roles in the Org.

Veering off slightly, do JW men actually do cleaning? I thought it would be considered " women's work "

Yes , they don't seem to realise that being a good company man doesn't stop someone from developing an alcohol problem. Or indeed from committing adultery , are the wives expected to just put up with that ?

the new zealand branch of the jehovah’s witnesses is going to court in an attempt to have the church made exempt from the abuse in care inquiry today.. in the high court at wellington, lawyers for the church are seeking a declaration that the church is not responsible for the care of children or vulnerable people in new zealand.. abuse survivor advocate and former church elder shayne mechen said the church was trying to use a technicality to side-step its inclusion in the inquiry.. .
I would like to contrast that with the Church of England. All the rules are national so apply to every parish church. My parish church does not run a school or orphanage or even a Sunday School where children go into a separate room .
Many of us are still required to be DBS checked including any members of the Parochial Church Council if we have any contact with children or vulnerable adults or not .
We do run something called The Ark on Thursday morning and Baby Ark on Monday afternoon. For preschool children and parents/ grandparents/ childminders who stay with the children . The volunteers at both have to be DBS checked even though they have no direct physical contact with the children.
During the morning family service there is a children's table where littluns sit with volunteers and do crafts related to the sermon, colouring, sticking etc , in full view of their responsible adults. They love parading around the church at the end and to show off their work.
Those volunteers need to be DBS checked .
Each church has a designated Safeguarding Officer .

"from november 1st 2023, all congregants of the faith must tick a box every month to prove they are still christians.".
can you imagine the org's reaction if this took place?
they would be ticked off!
Thanks BoogerMan , l wasn't aware of the JW box ticking requirement. That in itself sounds like a windup. Truth and fiction eh ?

"the generally accepted definition of propaganda is this: an organization for the propagation of a doctrine or system, the purpose of which is to cause the membership of the system or organization to increase or enlarge.
religious organizations engage in propaganda, because each system of religion tries to increase its membership.
the work of jehovah’s witnesses for his kingdom is entirely a different matter.
So the door to door work and handing out leaflets from carts isn't an effort to increase his organisation or propagate his doctrines then . Just for fun obviously, because what else would you rather be doing?
