up until now, everlasting life was dependent on "taking in knowledge".
it was a perfect fit for a publishing house to interpret that scripture that way.
if we didn't keep up with the endless stream of publications from the watchtower our salvation would be in jeopardy.
Welcome Rosy , I agree with your point that taking in knowledge of someone is different to knowing them , and the example of GW above is spot on .
I often get worked up about a subject and just type !.
My NIV says
" Now , this is eternal life : that they may know you , the only true God , and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent . "
I do not know about the NWT( old or new version ) but my NIV cross references that with Php 3:8 .
"What is more , I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord , for whose sake I have lost all things . " NIV .
The study notes say
"Not only a knowledge of facts but a knowledge gained through experience that , in it's surpassing greatness, transforms the entire person ."
The Philippians verse is cross referenced with Jer 9: 23-24 . I will quote 24 in particular in case it is different in other translations
"but let him who boasts boast about this : that he understands and knows me ..... "
Other references are then given for that verse , which are a bit numerous to go into at the moment . I appologise if the NWT also gives these cross references but I think that they are relevant , so worth mentioning .

posting about the wonderful preaching day on fb... posting about what they ate for lunch, snacks, dinner after preaching... posting about rubbing elbows with the co, do, etc... posting about getting into pioneer school... swooning over the latest gadgets, right after the meeting... being obsessed about what clothes to wear during the assemblies.... etc.. etc... being proud of having an sp, bethelite, etc relative... being unable to take pride in academic, secular, or other normal achievements leads to the above, i guess.. and it's not at all different from how "worldly" people behave these days... .
Stand For Pure Worship , I'm just not sure whether to take you seriously or not . Are you Aunt Connie in disguise ?
As a so called Christian , I love you with Christ's love , as we are told to love our enemies , whatever nasty things you say .
does the organization of jehovah's witnesses do any charity work?.
answer from a wt apologist.

many people have mentioned the charity work done with the poor ,the disadvantaged , the homeless , drug addicts etc by that nasty old Christendom , all denominations and often many working together .
I would like to address the other claims made , about preaching work and publication of teaching material in other languages . I was talking this morning to someone about the group called ReSource which are an interdenominational evangelistic group in the U.K. Just one of many . They have an outreach programme called Rooted in Jesus aimed at African countries . They have worked in Tanzania , Burundi , Rwanda and S Africa,up to date . They translate the material into all the local dialects including Kinyarwanda (no me neither ) .
It does tee me off that the Watchtower takes this high stance that comes through the r&f that they are the only group preaching in far flung places and exotic languages .
To any JW appologists who may read this NO THEY ARE NOT .
I mention this group by name so that anyone can check this out . They are online and easily found .

They do not follow Jesus teaching exactly , Jesus taught us to give to the poor , any poor , to be kind even to your enemies not just your brothers . If you have two coats and your brother has non then you give him a coat . In
the parable of the good samaritan Jesus makes it clear that anyone in need is our brother .
It most certainly is not irrefutable that they engage in the greatest Bible education work in all human history . I assume that these are quotes from the Watchtower and we know their track record for "truth "
Lots of Christian groups , many interdenominational , are publishing in many languages . Again claims made by the WT that are not supported by facts .
Where is the proof that most charitable organisations give very little to the poor . At least most charitable orgs publish figures to show where the money goes .
How accountable is the WT for how it spends donations ?
It makes me angry when the WT makes these wonderful boasts about how much better it is than other denominations and the r&f just soak it all up without question .
Rant over . Jan ps any lurkers check all this stuff out FOR YOURSELVES .
last month i made one year on jwn!.
happy anniversery to me!!!!
.
Congratulations
this was an article from the ted talks that was interesting:.

Can I ask a question (s)of those who chose to join ?
Did you think to do research about the WT before joining ?
Did you have Bible knowledge before joining ?
Would you have listened if some clever clogs , know it all , like me suggested that you do research or pointed out some of the flaws of the WT ? or would you have listened to the people you were studying with who warned you that nasty members of Christendom would try to put you off?
I know that these are very to the point questions , but I am interested in what makes someone join a fringe group like the WT even though family and friends probably warned against .
i visited relatives out of state this weekend and sure enough watched two witnesses going door to door approach the house.
i casually walked out to the front yard and, sure enough an older brother with a young married man in tow came over to me.
i let them go through the usual speil & took the magazines.
well done
i have been waiting for this moment, and it has finally come!
i was actually in the middle of typing in the other thread, about householders who caused you doubts, when a jw rang my doorbell.
my barking german shepherd didnt scare him away, but did knock all his books out of his hand and onto a wet porch, which i really felt bad about.
sorry , for the triple post , 1D 10 T syndrome again
