  another shooting, this time 14 kids dead more wounded and a teacher dead.

  i am all for the second amendment and this does not change my mind.

  but i do hate this kind of thing, makes my stomach turn.

  So it's acceptable that someone who has serious mental health problems, as you suspect the shooter does, to be able to get their hands on a gun ?

  Speaking from a British point of view l am so happy to live in a country where we can send our kids to school KNOWING that they won't be shot . Or that l can pop to the shops , which is where the last mass shooting occurred, and KNOW that l won't be killed by a schizophrenic with a legal gun

  Or l won't be killed by a child playing with Pop's revolver because it's fun .

  That is freedom.

  Unpopular opinion

  so i've asked this question to witnesses in the past (super no no question to ask by the way but hilarious responses) to bosses and coworkers, and random people of different faiths and i'm curious to know how mixed of a response this community will give.

  bible believers or not your oppinion is very welcome.

  technically according to scripture we are gods sons.

  That's a lot to digest , but my first thought is Jesus and Lucifer are only brothers if you agree with the Watchtower teaching that Jesus is a created angel . As far as l am aware it is only the WT that teaches this and they can only produce one verse to back it up .

  Can you list the positive points of being a JW as against the negative points of being a JW in your experience ?

  i was a twenty y/old when i converted to the jw religion and was a problem drinker and i was a chain smoker .when i was baptized at a circuit assembly a year later , my conversion and change in lifestyle was given as an example of the effectiveness of incidental witnessing to the audience.. so i can point to the 2 positives becoming a jw .. 1.i gave up smoking.

  2.i gave up drinking for a while ,but because i still had association with my wife`s and my family who were not jw`s ,i learnt to control my social drinking when i started again.. and i have been a responsible drinker ever since ,even though i left the religion 29 years ago.. the negative points of being a jw in my 32 years of being one ?

  are far too great to list here .. love to hear your thoughts..

  Rattigan , celebrating holidays is obviously a personal choice but politics affects everyone.

  Politics can influence the lives of the less well off not just in the country where live but in much poorer parts of the world .

  Should we not take an interest if only to vote for those who we think will do the least harm in the world? None of them anywhere do that much good .

  If people of integrity and compassion stood for political office surely the world would be a better place .

  Someone wise said that for evil to flourish it just takes good people to do nothing.

  History repeated: pre-1975 trend of selling homes to ‘downsize’

  i saw this thread on reddit.

  i think the reason for this is that the 1975 fiasco is never mentioned in the jw religion.

  nobody mentioned it to me when i came in the years after.. the problem with this is that all the sad stories were never told (or hushed up) of people who sold off homes, etc.

  i just had an incredible phone conversation with a long-time jw who has strong "q-anon" "sovereign citizen" beliefs.

  Isn't being a member of QAnon or just listening. to and agreeing with it's ideas dabbling in politics?

  A rough outline of it's policies seem to be Republican heroes battling the Democrat satan worshipping, paedophile , cannibals .

  Surely JWs aren't allowed to have anything to do with politics.

  i just had an incredible phone conversation with a long-time jw who has strong "q-anon" "sovereign citizen" beliefs.

  Really ? Gosh l thought that Aussies had more sense . Do you mean Australian JWs ?

  I wonder how widespread this is ? Certainly the average Brit has probably never even heard of QAnon .

  Two things occur to me.

  1 Only American JWs buy into this surely? So the percentages given aren't for worldwide membership.

  2 Reading stuff ( admittedly on social media of different kinds ) l have wondered about a second civil war breaking out . This thought is based on the deep political , racial, religious and economic divides in America.

  Now reading the Qanon stuff about , " patriotic Americans " it seems more likely when a fair proportion of the population take this seriously.

  Am l very wrong in thinking that there is a chance even that armed conflict could break out in the USA?

  Sincere question from someone who finds all this perplexing and worrying.
