Last night at my Bible study group we looked at 1Thessalonians ch 5 . We have been working through the whole letter.
Verses 1-11 start with
" Now , brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you , for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night "
It's all about just being ready every day because no one knows when the end will come.
The question was asked " given that over the years people have tried to work out a date for the end what is the point of that? "
What would your answer be to that?

there is a new approach to ministry where the direction is to just talk to people and listen to what they want to talk about.
the new school for the midweek meeting is completely different and is all about the new approach .
even before the no reporting changes field service dropped right off.
The new direction is just to talk to people and listen to what they want to talk about.
How long would that last if the person wanted to talk about all things wrong with the Org l wonder

i’ve not been paying close attention to watchtower developments, but talking to a jw yesterday it occurred to me the society (yes, still use that term - old school) have been sending out mixed messages in recent years.
from what i gather, a few years ago the gb announced that during the great tribulation jws would be required to preach a “hailstone message of judgement” which involved telling people it was too late for them to repent and they were definitely going to be destroyed.
there were hints that this could be very soon, “any day now” preaching could stop and the hailstone message come in, kind of thing.
If l have this right what exactly was the point of telling people that it was too late for them and they were going to die ?

i've been crapping on the wt a lot lately, which sometimes seems a bit unfair to me, especially since i was never in, therefore i don't really have a dog in the fight.
to provide a bit of balance, i'll reminisce about the rampant prophecy speculation going on in mainstream christianity (i refuse to use the wt's pejorative term: "christendom", especially since by definition, they're part of that classification 🙄) in the 70s and 80s.
to be fair, the churches themselves had been around long enough to realise that end times interpretations are like arseholes, everybody has one.

i joined about 5 days ago and have some observations/questions.. does anyone notice the profile update doesn't seem to work?
i like reading some of the profiles, most accounts don't have them and maybe that's because the tool doesn't function anymore?.
also i've been noticing a diverse number of subjects which made me think of the categories of people on here.
Welcome OBrien , l am a JWno . A life long Anglican ( Church of England) l joined after doorstep conversations with JWs wherein l had doubts about their Bible knowledge and the WT teachings . So l decided to learn more in order to be able to have better discussions with them .I've learnt a lot more than l bargained for .
Elena l feel left out of those categories, there doesn't seem to be one for me 🙁.

things got a bit lively after the agm leaks in october.
there was a lot of discussion going on on this board for a few months.
now that all the leaks have been more or less confirmed as policy, and we've had lively discussions at length concerning the changes, things seem to have slowed down here.. a few suggestions have been raised as to what might be the next changes, such as women being allowed to wear slacks (in the usa, anyway), decoupling from 1914 as an anchoring date and others.. so, what changes do you think will be announced this year?.
So are there 'consequences'to wearing trousers when they shouldn't ? I am trying to get a handle on how official this expectation is . JWs like to give the impression that it's purely a personal choice , not something that's mandatory.

Sorry for asking what may have been asked before. The original post mentions women ( in US at least) being ALLOWED to wear trousers.
So that means that up until now trousers for women have been officially banned ?
When l have asked why women always wear trousers the answer has been that they choose to in order to honour Jehovah. It's always denied that they can't because it's not allowed.

https://www.jwupdates.com/post/conscription-fears-across-europe-could-end-jehovah-s-witnesses.
as the clouds of war are gathering fast over the european continent many countries including britain are contemplating a return to conscription and some form of mandatory military service.
considering the fact that the watchtower fought long and hard especially in europe for the right of its believers to abstain from military service it is very interesting to see how this new development will affect the watchtower across europe.
I don't live in London so don't see The Metro and all the hype seems to be people's opinions on one person's musings about the subject.
It seems to be getting blown out of all proportion.
