i guess i'm new here.

born in and an ms. things just hasn't been making sense the more i think about it.

i'm starting to get suspicious.

Suspicious. One of the great lessons in life i believe, is to "let it be". Let things and people be what they are. Continue to learn and study. Start with your religion, then go to the bible, then to God if you want. Take your own journey. Just look at the people that responded to your post. They are athiests, agnostics, Christian.....I mean, what is it almost all of us have in common right?

Start with wether your beliefs hold up to scrutiny scripturally sicne that has been your authority thus far. Ann gave another good lesson, which is to not assume you already know something. Try to look at it with fresh eyes. Allow yourself to be wrong, and for the possibility for life to not mean anything in particular, and then your opportunities to understand and transform will present themselves.

I don't mean for that to sound overly sensational, but I really do mean it. You are mad young. So no need to come up with all the answers of the universe before the end of summer ok?

Do You Believe Gods name is Jehovah and why?

many internet sites claiming that god's names is jehovah.. do you believe it is the name of god?.

I actually might be in the minority here, but I believe it is possible Jehovah could be the name of God in a modern version of what was originally intended. There is certainly no way to tell for sure. "Jah" at the very least seems correct based on Revelation and the praising of "Jah".

There was a book written which gave some compelling ideas as to why three syllables would be more accurate than 2. Greg Stafford also wrote extensively on the subject in all of his books, as was as Firpo Carr in the now somewhat famous "The divine name controversy".

On a philosophical level, one could determine that God's name is too holy to speak and take the position of Jews and Muslims. One could say that father is more personal because of how they view their own father perhaps. The bible speaks of God's name as having import, but name could mean reputation and fame just as much as the actual name in itself. it may in fact be both.

I am careful to not just find things that suit how I already may feel about something. Just because I have left the religion of my life thus far, does not neccesarily mean i am willing to think they are wrong about everything. I also think there are some compelling reasons the septuagint offers in regards to the name of God.

I do agree though that nobody should be dogmatic either way........which may go without saying.

Heathen.......they had that half way apologyish kind of sort of mention of things where they have ben incorrect in understanding earlier this year. Are you now convinced?! An elder I spoke to actually told me he counted that as a serious apology and good enough for him. :) What a mess.

I will say......it was hard to sit through. I could not contain my eye rolling. Man those puppies rolled!

Interesting Conversation that we ARE NOT Bible Students

no need for all the details, but we were with a few from the kh after the meeting for some food and the topic of how smart we are compared to other religions in the world when it comes to knowing the bible.. my radar immediately went off as that is one of my pet peeves.

(most laughed since i doubt any do the family study night, but that's beside the point).

i asked one of the brothers to multiply that by 50 weeks (answer is 225 hours).

Moses has a point and in it I think is the last and only appeal of JW's to the world.

They aren't the status quo (or so people think). It is kind of easy to point to paganism and say that is why we don't do holidays. it is kind of easy to look at the Catholic support of hitler and say we are different and don't go to war.

Of course it is much more complicated than that, but the reality has never stopped the fantast before. on top of that, JW's are chosen because Jehovah picked you. Screw the other people on your block, he liked you in particular and that is why he brought you here.

DF ones can now choose where to sit...New WT Policy

aug wt q and a has now stated that any df'd person can sit with anyone, anywhere at a congregation meeting.. before, they had to sit at the back of the hall.

There was never a rule about where DF'd people sat. it was considered humble and easy to leave right afterwards without shaming the public, if you sat in the back. There was never however a rule about it. Kind of an unofficial cultural thing.

When I was DF'd (a long time ago), I lived at home, and came separately from my family, sitting in the back and ducking out right after prayer.

Suspicious re-read your own comments. You are in effect saying that if the bible has writen something that didn't happen, then you can't trust it.

I mean........duh. Right?

Bart Ehrman is a good place ot start if you are interested in testing the bible. But lets just say the bible is solid in your view. You are not on an athiest web site, you are on a JW recovery and support website (amongst other things). Perhaps you need to test the inspired utterances you have come to know as truth up to this point? It is after all why you came here and not to an athiest site correct?

Wow. I am surprised that sites like this and jwtalk exist. It is 100% clear that the society objects to them, and yet they are very "loyal" to the GB. it just seems to be a contradiction of the highest order. Maybe the branch looks the other way as long as they are 110% for the GB?

Slow down buddy. You are young. You have discovered some things early. Try not to go overboard. Ann gave you good advise. Sit back and try not to think in absolutes if you can help it.

One of the things you won't realize so soon into it, is that your WORLD VIEW has been shaped by the religion of your youth. So everything is black and white, and judged to be correct or false. That is not real life. in the real world, it is ok to not know something, to express you don't know it, and to then search for an answer. Even after you do that.....you STILL may not know. That is ok! It is humble to accept in the face of Jehovah or whatever anyone believes in, that you do not know something. So do not tell yourself you HAVE to have everything all lined up. You will just disappoint yourself.

Start whatever threads you want and people will give their thoughts. Then take them, combine them with your own and do your own research. I remember hearing on here somethign a long time ago that stuck with me.

I don't mind having questions I cannot answer, but I do mind having answers that cannot be questioned.

Is there going to be a new NWT or what ?

i dropped off my wife the other day at the cuircit ass and driving out of the car park i was flagged down by an elder i know.

he was and still is one of the genuine ones, a real solid guy.

anyhoo, he tells me to come back as we are so close to the big a and he also tells me that a new bible is gonna be released.

An vague online research toll that is not an index but sort of like an index for JW's to do "research" with, coming Jan 1 2014.

A book called "Imitate their Faith" based on the WT series or articles. Prob the next study book in the meetings.

A DVD of the Prodigal son drama from 2009.

A Brochure for very small kids that is benign enough.

No new NWT but that is the speculation. They may just change a few things and release it to the halls without fanfare. Probably won't be any major changes if they do it at all.
