Haven't seen it. Everyone I know that does see it says it makes them cry. I am sure it will, just maybe not for the reason they think.

Ugh... Have to learn to keep my mouth shut
by dissonance_resolved inso my mom was telling me that my aunt is going to be hosting a gb member and wife, cos and do for dinner after their dc this summer.
i immediately blurt out, "that sounds stressful.
" which is met with dead silence.

We had a GB member come and do the dedication at alocal kingdom hall. I prepared a small letter with some questions and thoughts written in a manner that I am hoping would make him read the entire thing, and not get me labeled an apostate. It took some doing.
An emergency took me out of town, and I asked my wife to give it to him, or to have one of my friends do it. She chickened out. I still wish I would have done that. The likelyhood of a GB member going after someone or causing an issue is small because it would make them appear petty. Plus at a KH dedication they might just think it was money or a letter of appreciateion. By the time they got back somewhere and read it, they wouldn't even know who I was.
I think people should do this more. If any of them come back to my area, I will definitly do this. I think the GB is insulated by their handlers for the most part, and it would be good for them to see the conscious class reaching out to them.

Your opinion is requested.
by DATA-DOG inthis is rough draft of a letter that i was thinking of sending to various human rights organizations.
i am interested in your thoughts.
i will not include anyone's website without their permission.

I think you need to shorten the narrative, include some quotes instead fo referrign them to a site (or in addition to), and state these things are a matter of policy. Just my 2 cents.

I think a troubleshooter has been assigned to our congregation
by hoser inthis new couple moved in a couple weeks ago.
special/regular pioneers, he's an elder from bethel.
i think he might have been a co at one time.

Hey Hoser. Maybe there is a way you can speak to these guys and direct them here? Maybe counsel them to try to tone it down a bit for their own sake? We can be our own worst enemy when you have nobody to talk to, and feel the sting of betrayal.

Jws and urban myths!
by Julia Orwell injws sure love urban myths.
the jws have their own collection built up over many years, part of their own unique worldwide jw culture.
i've come across the same ones in america that i've heard in australia, and they pass from legend to myth and finally reality as quoted from the platform.

I just put two on the smurf thread. First there was supposedly blood in Nestle Quick. The Nestle rabbit was apparently a shill for the red cross and his disgusting beverage contained the most tainted of all substances ever that we already have inside of us.....blood!
This made its rounds through the black community in the org for sure.
The other one is the constant stories of people being "held down by demons" where they couldn't move or say anything...untilt hey are able to say Gods name! Well there is a reasonable explanation for this using (gulp) science. But that never stopped the stories.
Also, does anyone else seem to think that it always seems like whoever is president at the time, seems to be slipped whatever major publication is being distributed for bible studies? Another legend. It just changes slightly for each president.

Smurf WArs
by snare&racket ingrowing up in the uk we didnt hear any stories about smurfs being demonic or evil etc, i watched the smurfs without a bad consciense.. what were the stories?
the rules and the reasons why?
how widespread was this crazy idea?.

I am not sure the branch ever actually names the cartoon. I think it had more to do with Gargamel being a wizard, albeit an inept one. Then one day a kid throws a smurf down the aisle, and someone says it walked out of the KH. This is how urban legends begin.
The organization is full of them. Perfectly explainable things being attributed to demons or persecution. Two examples.
1) Ever heard the story of the people being held down and couldn't move or speak? They prayed and prayed and finally got out the word Jehovah and they were released? Totally demons. But actually its a physiological thing that workd on the brain stem when you are in REM sleep. There is a normal explanation for it.
2) Did you Nestle Quick has blood in it? This was big in the black community. Yep the Quick bunny is trying to subvert your faith by putting the tainted substance in his disgusting shake. Ingredient list be damned of course. Someone had the "inside track".

Another Newbie
by Skinnedsheep ini recently came to the realization that the organization is corrupt and is false.
my story is similar to many i think.
i was raised in the religion, pioneered and served as an elder for a number of years.

Welcome skinned sheep,
I have often wondered as you do, how I could know if my friends or family were having doubts or even if they just were around as I was....for appearances. It hurts to live an inauthentic life. It hurts to have people you love think you are insane or "weak" for stopping attendance at the meetings. Fortunately, there are no original scripts. The stories here mimic each other in striking fashion. I have only been inactive a little over 6 months, and i attended the most recent District Convention, just to have all my concerns and fears justified by the content of the teaching. All the while some family and friends were so happy I was there, I think it gave them false hope.
You are exceedingly fortunate to have your wife with you. Mine is half in half out.....mainly due to family and friends. We love each other and that has superceeded organizational loyalty, but it took time to get there. It can also be interesting to look at YOURSELF and take time for reflection. i mean, I used to actually teach people Jehovah wanted them to die rather than take a blood transfusion. I taught many people this. People I still know and now pioneer and have children. I brought many a person into "the truth". Now I constantly think about how I can UN-witness to them. There really though, is no way. You have to just be open to other peoples concerns, and when they express them....verify them!
I was thinking, the change regarding the FDS actually makes more sense in many ways now that the malarky that was taught before. Of course, it isn't about the teachings subject to revision is it? Its about the control. COntrol never given to men from Jesus in the bible. The concepts of "new light" that give men impugnity to be falsely teaching, and still somehow be right. There is an elder here named COBE beef. He wrote notes from one of the elders schools here. Those notes were a wake up call for me. So don't be shy about contributing. Stories and information benefit people here and mostly lurkers, in ways you can't really imagine.
Let me know if I can help you with anything brother.

2013 Baptisms @ U.S. District Conventions Reports?

^^^^It was me. My wife didn't take notes (good girl), so I did not verify with her. I have asked a couple friends, just to verify. I remember these numbers pretty clearly and I would say give or take a few, this was the correct number. Note that it was the largest District Convention in the country, as it is every year I believe. Mainly because they combine the two languages, and use Qualcomm stadium. It is only slightly more offensive than going there to see the Chargers play.
