  No more secrets!

  Can you imagine if they actually tried to announce something from the platform that is confidential? Who do these people think they are the freaking FBI? Their own history is out in the open and confidential from their own viewing. To suggest there will be special instructions from the platform, suggests there will be special knowledge. is it the position of JW's now that they will get a "heads up" when the tribulation begins and everyone has been judged?

  Not Forsaking Christian Gatherings

  at the meeting this week, there was a part about placing our trust in jehovah and not worrying about food and shelter (mat 6:33).

  the part was based on the 2013 yearbook p138 and 139 where there were two examples:.

  a family went to their convention leaving their chickens unattended for a number of days, worried about if they would survive.

  as some of you may know i am in the midst of a fade, working on the family coming along (new thread to update there).

  most mf my close friends are still jw's to varying degrees.

  i would say most are couples that are around our age (25-35), and they attend maybe 90% of the meetings, go in service on sat, pioneer in april, and have a couple bible studies etc... in general the good kind.

  Yeah I agree with you guys. Honestly it was kind of a thing of beauty. It was well orchestrated, red meat for the masses, and everyone ate it up and won't shut up about how "historic" it is. They have no idea all they did was slightly move a little closer in line with the scholarly community in some things (17:3 for example).

  The ignorance is what is really disturbing. I think I will call the branch and ask if they have a list of the changes available to the public.

  Is there something specific that is called? When a revision is made and changes are submitted for peer review (even though they do not do that), what is the name for that?

  i want to thank jehovah's witnesses new world bible translation committee for changing the words, "mentally diseased" as found in the 1984 edition of the nwt, to "obsessed with arguments," as found in 1 timothy 6:4 in the 2013 revised nwt.. on february 6, 2012, david splane, the overseer of the watchtower's writing department received an open letter from me which i posted below especially for new posters.

  the topic of my letter was in response to the writing department's statement that ..."apostates are mentally diseased" in their july 15, 2011 watchtower.

  the 1984 edition of the new world translation reads:.

  Thank you for sharing that Barbara.

  It is interesting the change was made any time during the last 5 years they have been working on this, and yet the recent District Convention had no problem doubling down on the apostate hatred through similar speech and even the translation they now adjusted.

  In fact, I would wager it is possible before that WT was even written, that the NWT comitee could have already made that change. It is not imaterial. It is very serious.

  Sometimes over there the left hand does not seem to know what the right hand is doing.

  ^^^^Good stuff.

  I love that it can be claimed to be the most accurate ever produced but it isn't submitted for peer review study, and there is no summary of changes made to the older edition. And yet if I stated that to anyone....it would fly over their head.

  thanks for getting back to me.. i know you may be simply following bible counsel because it answers questions in ways that are emotionally pleasing and require no verification.

  people in the bible days could not comprehend their relationship to the physical world so they invented their own explanations.

  these explanations tended to be simple, and some were harmful, resulting in religious dogma, which now for example serve as the grounds for you ending our relationship?.

  Sure they are. But at certain ages they do not grasp the concepts that stick to not being able to undo something like baptism into a group you cannot just leave if you no longer agree with the principles.

  I mean seriously, getting teenager married isn't something you are ready to endorse right?

  Jesus was baptized at 30. Why are you in a rush when there is no indicator scripturally that you should be?

  Wife update

  so i am at 1200 posts or so (only about 6 were probably of note), and i still havenlt told my story and probably won't for some time.

  basically, i was a born in who has served in other countries, as an ms, and given talks etc... my wife and i were in foreign language, have co's we have counted as close family friends, and were basically the golden boy and girl of their respective areas.
