A new start? Watchtower renaming at HQ Columbia Heights
by Gorbatchov infriends,.
who was in any doubt that our jw believe is a marketing model, see this pictures of the still existing hq of jw at columbia heights.. earlier comments on jwn that something is going to change in the organisation, these comments are true.. in a few years we will not talk about the watchtower society, we wil talk about jw.org.
i think the current leadership will make a transfer to a new start.

All those times Jehovah answered my prayers...
by Julia Orwell in...and granted me strength, friends, a job, whatever...was all either through my own effort alone or sheer luck.. i wanted a government job so i prayed for one and went out looking for one every day for ages and made a heap of applications...and got one.
my own effort.. i wanted a friend and prayed for one, crying myself to sleep with loneliness.....and after 6 months in the new congregation someone reached out to me.
chance.. i prayed to be able to stand up to my family when they put pressure on me about christmas etc...my own cult conditioning so strong.. i prayed to find a nice husband...luck when i moved congregations and one of those sisters who just has to match make introduced us.

Stands for true worship...
Calling JW's the "True Religion" , is the same as saying I have the "one and only haircut".
Religion is a man made devise that Jesus was not fond of according to his teachings regarding the religion he was born into.
You are suggesting accurate and reliable information can only be found on JW.org. I would say that is true to an extend. Much soft peddled information is certainly there. However, no critical analsis of any doctrines or teachings is ever listed or allowed. I mean, you had annonymous people, eradicate 13% of words in acripture, and didn't even submit what the changes were? If the society has nothing to hide, why is it not more honest and forthright about its mistakes? Satan didn't set up this website you are on and commenting on now (of which you are welcome to do and I am glad you are here). Simon did, because he wanted to help others that suffered as they left and were shunned.
You cannot call yourself the truth and then lie......even a little. Is it your summation that all non JW.org sites do not have accurate information?
Trust is earned through telling the truth, and honest dealing. Trust cannot be demanded and still maintain its virtue.

New! Borg instruct to report tract placements
by pixel inthere's a new letter coming up next week to be read instructing the publishers to begin reporting the number of tracts placed in the ministry, including copies of kingdom news 38, annual invitations, district handbills and other tracts.
lol.
see, the borg is allegue about numbers, and why on earth do they tell you to start counting placement in the middle of a campaing, like the one they are doing now witk kingdom news 38 and not before it started??.

This is kind of crowd psychology 101. Someone invited me in the ministry recently on a sunday. They are just trying to be encouraging. They are the kind of person who doesn't know jack about scripture, but is a very good person. So he is trying to encourage me. I get it. No problem there.
He said hey why don't you come out with me on sunday, its tract work so its really "easy".
Any there we have it. Handbills are now 3-4 time a year campaigns. It is easy, you just hand it to someone and say hi. Then you leave, and count the placement. Hours fly by, more people are out because they are less intimidated and it is more "temporary".
The counting of these tracts are to motivate the individual reporting it. Not for anything else. I mean if there is a campaign, you can easily and with very little work hand out a billion tracts, get 15 hours that month, and write in a nice hefty numbr of 150 tracts or something like that.
When you put a larger number on your score card, you feel better about your contribution. When you feel better, you do more.

Trying to overcome my homophobia.
by Julia Orwell ini had a music album by a gay guy before i was a jw and had no problem listening to it.
it's good music.
some of the lyrics are what you might call 'gay', that is there's some talk about boyfriends, gay bars, and queens and the intolerance the artist encountered as a gay man.

Hmmmmm. Interesting thread. i didn't realize there was a fairly large group of gay ex-JW's here. I would say i am probably in Julias boat. i like to belive my thinking is evolved, but gayness is still "icky" to me. So while I don't treat anyone different that anyone else, while I don't believe rights etc... should be handed out in different measure to gay people.......I also hope my son is straight.
Not because of prejudice, or anything like that. I just don't want him to be gay. To me its still kind of weird. If he was, I'm smart enought to know that I would need to encourage him and be his father in the same loving manner I would anyways. But it would be.....disappointing to me.
I guess there is where I have some work to do.

WT gearing up to dump Russell and come clean on early history?
by Comatose inwe've discussed this on lots of threads, but i've noticed a few things lately.
they seem to be talking about the early days on a very regular basis, almost constantly.
the change to fds happens and this involved a dive into early history and a few knocks on russell.

What is the best for the child if father knows TTATT and mother is a devout JW?
by Daniel1555 inhi friends.
i would like to know your opinion on the following:.

How about option 3.
Father leaves but does not blow things up (da or df), and speaks freely with their child down the road when the child becaomes able to understand more. he will need to be honest with his wife, and slowly work on her. He may even have to insist on taking the child to other places other than meeting, which of course will cause strife.
The child is one. There is no reason to think about explaining doctrine. At the most, several years from now they may want someone to study with him, and that is as much the dads call as the mothers. They cannot force the child to study as long as the "unbelieving mate" has decided that is not ok. Focus on the kid.
No need to get disfellowshipped. No need to DA. Just leave. As long as you don't try to convince others, your conversations with your family cannot be legislated. Don't underestimate the power a year of fading gives you. The congregation is a bubble. one year out, and they forget about you anyways because they are "busy with the work".
Just my two cents of course. Kind of my similar situation, and that is how I am handing it. My wife if now waking up and we will all be together. My small child doesn't know the difference.

Genital Mutilation - Is anyone watching this?
by Slidin Fast inuk chanel 4 " the cruel cut".
in the uk in black and asian communities female genital mutilation(fgm) or destruction of the clitoris and the labia of young girls is practised.
this horror is common in the uk, it is illegal and has been for 28 years but there has not been one prosecution.. this got me thinking.

FGM and male circumcision are not the same. Period.
FGM is born out of superstition and the idea that it is wrong for a woman to feel pleasure from sex. That there is something wrong with those parts. A fairly common practice in Africa for some reason.
Circumcision actually has benefits, although I realize this is up for debate. Also, your junk doesn't look weird and stays cleaner. We aren't swinging from vines in the jungle anymore, no need to protect the tip from the inside of our pants unless you don't know how to use the zipper.

Blood transfusion and eating pork
by Sittingstraight1212 injust trying to gather info as a reasoning point to donate blood or get a transfusion.
why can witnesses have some blood parts, if they stuck to the belief of what the scrip says, never said anything about parts!??
and why can they eat pork, of it's health concern was that the pig is dirty.

I'm not sure what you are going for. JW's believe the command to "abstain" from blood is universal and is restated after the mosaic law, so it therefore carries into the congregation.
They believe a christian could decide that the fractions they have deemed conscience matters may be separated, and mixed, and messed around with so much that a person may no longer consider it really like regular blood.
Its as clear as mud.
If you are looking for something simple, ask them how the fractions that were forbidden and the ones that were allowed were determined? Who came up with this? Technically after all, they are all fractions of whole blood.
A good example is that white blood cells are forbidden under threat of judicial action and they make up less than 1% of your blood volume. Albumin is "for the Christian to decide", and maes up double of more of the volume white cells do. So how is that one approved, and the other one not?
They wanted to back out of it, but too embarrasing to back out of it all the way. i think they took this approach when they did, because there would be less casualties, and they could save face and not really ditch their doctrine which is probably one of the top 5 they are known for.
I used to argue in defence of the JW drug policy in lots of ways. i feel silly for every trying to do that.
